Oh hey you play bass, and you're pretty good at it too. I've been learning acoustic, but want to at least try out bass too. Any advice?

Once you believe you have a good handle on basic music theory at least, pick up a bass, get a feel for it, and for fuck's sake, don't ever treat it like any old electric guitar. The best basslines are those that make their own grooves instead of blindly following the guitarist.

I hear you there. I've been hopping from instrument to instrument for a while now, and have a couple years of acoustic under my belt by now, so I'll probably try to pick up a bass guitar soon.
