Non-Japanese Voice Actors, Are they getting better?
0
I've said it a thousand times but Shuffle is better in english. The japanese version isn't bad, it is actually very good - but that just goes to show how well done the english version is.
I also liked all the voices in School Rumble, especailly Harima's and Tenma's. They fit perfect with their characters.

BIG YES
Sia was unbearably adorable in english, and changing Kareha's catch phrase to Ouh'lah lah was such an awesome decision.

some are good, some bad, some just plain terrible.
the only thing i dont like about non-jp VA's is that the accents and dialects tends to get erased or changed so ill still stick to good ol jp VA's

I think they've gotten better over time since anime has gotten more and more popular here companies have put more money into dubing them well. Though I still think most dubs could be better, I'm hope that will be fixed as time goes by and anime becomes even more popular.Well then we just have to wait shall we? I have to say they ARE getting better, like china's getting better at making fake tech. But filipino dub still has a looooooooong way to go, I mean we're Asians but why does filipino dubs seem so wrong? They can't even dub spongebob right.
What's next? american anime? oh wai-. . .

In my opinion, there are only 3 male American voice acters to truelly be respected.
Johnny Yong Bosch
Ichigo Kurosaki, BLEACH
Lelouch vi Britannia, Code Geass
Nero, Devil May Cry 4
Itsuki Koizumi, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Brad Swaile
Amuro Ray, GUNDAM Series, among many other characters throughout GUNDAM.[/h]
Light Yagami, Death Note
Rokuro 'Rock' Okajima, Black Lagoon
Vic Mignogna
Edward Elric, Fullmetal Alchemist
Broly, Dragonball Z, latter movies[/h]
Yoshimori Sumimura, Kekkaishi
Ikkaku Madarame, BLEACH
I could go all day naming female actresses, so I wont.

Johnny Yong Bosch is the best voice actor ever.
Just thought I would throw that out there...
Also, I watched GTO in english and I thought that it was one of the better dubs.

I personally like Fooly Cooly's English dub over Japanese. The Japanese made it sound so bland...

Also the dub for Baccano! is excellent: plus, they're all American anyhow. :)

Yeah, I haven't heard a dub made in the last ~3 years I didn't like. I'm not saying superior to the original Japanese, but it's deffinitly comparable now. Notice how as some of the dub companies fell in the past few years, dub quality is much better.

I haven't seen many anime on TV lately. The only one there is is Bakugan. I guess the voice acting is just average.

I worked at Funimation Studios last summer for an internship for about 2 months (thanks to my old nextdoor neighbor who actually use to babysit me now being a producer for Shin-chan and other random things) and really got to know the guys working behind the scenes there. I can tell you they actually worry about feedback they get from fans, etc. on sites like ANN and random blogs.
The thing is you have to realize that there are only so many voice actors out there in the world, and on top of things there are only so many who are willing to do anime dubs. Considering the solid difference in proportion to how many VAs (seiyu w/e) there are in Japan, it's difficult to cast a clear cut equivalent of what one would expect the character given budget restrictions and lack of choice.
It's really upsetting to me, personally, because the people working their are very passionate about it. I'm not really sure how other companies like 4Kids TV (Pokemon VA = shit) or Viz (fuck Inuyasha dubs) work out, but Funimation is struggling to get by and even enforced a hiring halt in order to cut budgets even more. The best thing you can do if you actually want to see quality dubs is support the buying of US DVDs/Blu-rays even if you don't actually like the dub for the anime. They have the japanese audio tracks available. The more money they have, the better licenses they can purchase, and the more people they can hire. Leave feedback too, they read it. It's one of the reasons they got Spike Spencer back for the Rebuild of Evangelion movies (and Allison Keith).

You know what i remember(and i pray i didnt read this from sankaku) is that anime fans were least likely to buy anime and manga vs their american comic book counterparts. Kinda strange dont you think?

I grew up listening to Cantonese-dubbed animes, and I think the voice actors do a pretty good job at it. Also, the Japanese language has somewhat originated from the Chinese language, so certain Japanese terms that can't be found in the English vocabulary can be easily translated into Chinese.

I love dubs, well, the dub were the VA's actually put some heart into it. I hope they continue growing and make it more available to watch it on TV or something of the sort in the US even though so many people crack on them. T_T We all know most dubs can not hold much against the original version. However, I think it all depends on what you view first. But there were a few I thought were pretty good.
Full Metal Alchemist/Brotherhood
Ghost in the Shell- I thought all there voices were perfect, maybe because i never watch the jap version
Soul Eater Not a big fan of this anime fro some reason but I watched it in both languages and the dub was done nicely in my book. o_o
Cowboy Bebop
I probably could go on with more but I'm to lazy. Oh and Yuri Lowenthal, loved him when he voiced for Yosuke Hanamura
