I don't want to, but what can I say? I know I'm being awfully particular about this, but it is really bugging me and it is only going to continue to be a growing problem. I guess the bottom line is I don't feel like there is adequate communication between the staff and the members.
That may very well be the way that Jacob wants it to be, but just because it is what it is doesn't mean I have to like it. There may be little I can do in the way of talking about it, which is why I feel more inclined to leave. I don't like complaining about something for the sake of complaining. Now, if I thought I could actually do some good, like make that mindset change, then I'd be going up-and-down-left-and-right trying to get things to change. However, I don't think there is any intention for things to operate differently. Hard to argue with that really. Aside from technical hiccups, Fakku runs well enough as it is. I just don't appreciate the distance between staff and members. It personally makes me feel alienated and disinclined to care about what is going on.

It sounds like this thread is a "I am leaving because I disagree with the choices of moderator appointment that will probably never affect me."
Feels just a bit juvenile to me.
I'm also a bit miffed that I would be suspected of using moderator abilities to further... I don't even know, an agenda I don't have? Since Serious Discussion is so tied with opinion as you say, are you somehow light years ahead of me that you can perceive this while I can't? Is there an expectation where I begin a reign of terror and delete all posts which don't agree with my opinion, whatever it may be? Is the difference between Computer and Technology and Serious Discussion such that I am somehow incapable of seeing it, but plainly obvious to you two with your far-exceeding intelligences? Are you so supremely aware of my moderation style and every moderator action I've ever taken that they are as lucid to you as they are to me? Is this why you can make such confident generalizations and predictions?
Please, inform me.

It may be juvenile. I'm having problems admitting all of this myself. I won't deny that it may very well come off as shallow, but sometimes the simplest things bother us. I'm not going to spend the time justifying my view as to whether or not I'm being callous or not. I just stated how I felt, and people can take it for face value and make up their own minds as to whether I'm justified or just nitpicking.
As for your ability to mod Serious Discussion, I'll be blunt. I really dislike your attitude. You come off way to forceful and seriously lack tact. That does work in your favor in a lot of ways, but I don't think it will with Serious Discussion. I'm not doubting your ability to moderate and make the correct decisions as to how topics should be handled. What I am doubting is your ability to do it in a civil way that will benefit Serious Discussion. It is like I said, Serious Discussion is filled with a lot of overzealous and opinionated people who get really heated, for better or worse. I'm going to assume that is the reason that Serious Discussion has been discussed as needing a moderator by the members, and I'm assuming the staff has been talking about it for an equal amount of time or longer. I feel that your attitude is too similar to the attitudes that people demonstrate when they get into heated arguments, the topics that would require your attention. That is a recipe for disaster. Clashing attitudes, fighting between you and member(s) involved... it just sounds counter productive.
I think Serious Discussion requires someone who is more tactful and level-headed then I've seen you demonstrate. No, obviously I can't say that is always how you act, and you may moderate Serious Discussion differently than you do Computers and Technology. I would just as easily think that someone would be more qualified for Serious Discussion than you.

Well if this is a reply to me then let me retort. I never questioned your moderating skills first off nor did i ever say i was more intelligent than you. What i'm questioning is your ability to keep a level head and access the situation at hand from a non bias point of view to a level needed for SD's structure - a nearly impossible feat for most people and takes years of study and training to do. You clearly lack this going by your reply.
I'm not bettering myself by merely saying criticism of your past and present conduct, i wouldn't do any better than you would. All i'm saying - my main point, is that SD shouldn't and doesn't need a mod and neither does video games.

Sure is e-drama up in here. Everyone should just chill out. I'm sure that if Kenjug's and Tegumi are shown to be ineffective as mods they will be removed/reassigned.
Tsurayu, I am saddened to see you go over such a thing. It seems rather silly to me that you would leave a community you've been part of for some many years, just because you disagreed with the way it was heading. If you don't like what's happening attempt to change it, protest, speak out, etc. I can see your doing that in this thread, but since you're leaving who will take up the task in your place? I really hope you have thought this through.
Every community's, both online and off, has its up and down times. Think of it this way: One wouldn't leave the country just because a bad president got elected.
So, in summary: Please stay. I know you will probably ignore this, but I believe more harm will be done with your departed then good.

Seems like a summary of arguments towards me is that I would sooner join a argument than try to mediate it. Whether or not that may be true, I will say what I have said before: If I do not utilize moderator powers to that effect, what is the problem?
As for the argument that the two sections did not require moderators: I may be inclined to agree. Regardless, Jacob's site, he does what he wants.

You see, they won't be ineffective because they won't need to do anything. Then what's the problem? If you think that they won't do anything then how could it hurt? We still have Gambler to clean up large messes, and keep Kenjugs and Tegumi in "check" if it's necessary.

Thanks, it was stuck in the back of my mind, but I couldn't think of what to say... but it isn't exactly of the mouth.

It doesn't seem unreasonable to trust people you know more than people you don't. And this is an internet community; I would expect staff appointments to be made on the basis of how competent the current staff thinks a person is, although I would also think standing within the community would factor in, but it shouldn't even be an issue unless whoever it is only came here to fill a staff position. For a site that supports a community and provides a service, and continues to do so successfully, I have to believe that staff appointments are made on the sole basis of what a swell guy someone is.
I don't know, it just seems a bit nitpicky. Not to say I don't see where you're coming from, just that it doesn't seem like that big of a deal. Not until someone starts abusing power or influence in a way that really negatively effects the site. Although I wont say that it's not possible such a thing has already happened and just escaped my notice.
The only issue I've ever really had around here is just one inherent to a growing population; while the number of good posters goes up, the number of bad ones goes up twice as much.

Shame to see you go. I don't think your concerns are baseless, but I don't see the use in leaving, or at least announcing it. I've taken a hiatus when the forums have gone downhill before; perhaps you should have done the same. I guess this has at the very least facilitated some discussion of the evidently contentious decisions made of late.
I can absolutely see the justification for the appointment of friends to staff positions - trustworthiness, easy contact and a profile of character. Tegumi doesn't seem naturally suited to the 'delicate' moderation SD seems to need, but is evidently intelligent enough not to overstep her bounds, and if that comes at the cost of such heavy involvement in discussions, so be it. I take issue with Kenjugs on the basis that I checked some year and a half of posts and not one was in the forum he now moderates; however, if he becomes an active participant and demonstrates reasonable restraint in moderation, I will have no personal complaints.
I don't believe that the physical task of moderation is beyond the vast majority of the senior members here, but if experience and involvement were the only pre-requisite, every section would be staffed. The reality seems to be that Jacob has a pretty specific vision of how he wants these forums - which cater to many thousands of users, let's not forget - to be run, and he needs individuals who he can trust to maintain it. There are a handful of mods who don't seem incredibly close to him, but they are by-and-large impartial and placid individuals, and those are few and far between.

Curious and Wondering
*sigh* I'm really sorry to see you go, you're among the prominent ones when I started in FAKKU!. Do know you'll be missed.
I also slightly question how abruptly SD and VG had their "mods" in a snap, and who Jacob tapped to fill the new positions. But it's his choices, and I trust the man. Anyway, as long as great mods like Gambler are still in, I still feel the community is in good hands.

my bad, moved this before reading more than the first post.
In the future "Goodbye" threads go in IB.
edit: After reading the thread I'm going to say what mike said was exactly how I feel on the matter.
Jacob picked two people he trusts (it's a big thing when your livelihood is on the line) to run sections they seem appropriate for.
You may not know much about Kenjugs but Jacob obviously does, enough to believe he belongs in the position he was given. How many of you knew Matt well? How many of you know a lot about Gambler's real life? He doesn't have to be the most visible person on the site for him to moderate a section. I do believe staff should be more visible, and I do hope ken will be from this point on but I'm not in charge of him his actions now remain between he and Jacob.
Tegumi may not always be able to stop arguing but there are moderators above her who can when she is involved. Jacob believes SD needs a mod; he picked someone he trusts, it's not up to you, why not see how it goes before you jump ship?
What are you issues with me? Do you honestly think I always get whatever I want? You think I don't have to argue endlessly with Jacob to have ANYTHING done? The only way to convince him is after a few solid hours of logical debate and even then I would say its about a 30% chance to convince him. Let me ask you this: what seems more likely in this situation I constantly communicate things I wanted changed/done/fixed to Jacob on almost daily basis and get rejected 9/10 OR I'm the secret Overlord of Fakku? I don't even get what your complaint is with me anymore, I don't troll or act overly rude anymore(unless kidding or gugu), and some of my recent stuff has been downright helpful(to some).
In the end this just seems like a lot of "butthurt" and taking the easy way out(leaving) instead of doing what you should do(trying to fix things). Didn't take you for a quitter, guess I was wrong.
@gugu: row row fight the powa? you're so cool.
