Pet names: turn-off or turn-on?
0
Do those of you in relationships use pet names for your partner, like 'honey' or 'shorty'? I've always wondered this about lovey-dovey couples. And if you do, are they turn-ons?
There's this one ad that's been on my mind for awhile, this chatwindow ad for a fucksite I saw where the girl calls you 'sweetie'. That's a major turn-off for me, seeing as people who say "sweetie" or "dear" just come off as old people. But that's just me. What about you guys?

Neither, really.
Although I don't suppose many people fancy being called 'Sugarplum' or 'Snoogie-Woogie' when they're knockin' boots.

Haven't been in a relationship for a few years but from the few relationships I've been in I used one of them in one relationship a few times but I couldn't take it seriously. Even if I went into a serious relationship now that I'm older and more mature or sometime in the future I still wouldn't be able to take it seriously. I'd rather call them by their name, it's a lot more personal, especially if you use some sort of tone. That or use an adjective like 'beautiful' instead of a noun. I really hate the 'baby' one.
Also, who calls their partner 'shorty'?

They would be a turn off for me if I was in a relationship. I don't know why, but pet names just turns my stomach.

A friend of mine calls his girlfriends "shorty." He thinks he's a pimp, but he's really just a douchenozzle who drinks too much.

Maybe when I'm in my 40's I'll get into this thing.
I can't really see myself saying "honey-pie" or "schmookie-poo".

Pet-names are great for couples, in a way it proves you have a unique relationship with your partner... But in bed it's A no-no (unless your pet name is Dragon-Rider, everyone wants to be called that in bed).

I do not like being called ridiculous ones like "SnugglyBear" or anything as ridiculous as that. Also I am not big on being called "babe" cuz it doesn't sound very respectful to me at least. :/ I just feel using them are a tad silly.

Works the other way around as well. I enjoy being called by my name rather than something stupid. Joshy or Joshua is acceptable though.
You should know how that feels Yuri ;D

When you call each other by the first all the time it would seem a bit formal. Like what shiki stated, "It's a way to display your affection for one another."
On the other hand, I could see why pet names could get annoying, especially when couples do the cute-ish baby voice when having a intimate conversation.

I give everybody I know nicknames; my friends have told me that it's awkward to hear me say their first names. Yet no one calls me a nickname.....
I don't know I Like to call people by cute names, usually the first syllable of their name followed by "bear" or something to do with their quirks. I think it's more personal when I have a name that only me (or a few others) to call a person. Like "ZaZa-bear" or "Ducky"

I use to say that it was awkward to think about calling each other pet names, but somehow just ended up falling into it. I'm usually called by various things, but mostly the stereotypical "sweetie (most common), honey, (my) love" or "my Dia." I wouldn't say it is so much as a turn-on as just a heartwarming feeling to be called something so endearing - knowing their feelings for you are precious, for just a split second you can feel all of that transferred across by just a small word.

Very rarely would I use pet names.
And even when I do, its something like a play on their name... Or sugartits.
