Well nerves work in a strange way. I can press a part on my back and only feel a reaction in my neck. I think that's what they're feeling when they can feel their lost limb.
I don't beleive in this stuff. Their leg is gone, it's not a phantom.
It may not be a phantom, but their are numerous cases where people have felt like their lost limbs are there for whatever reason. Most say it hurts there and others deny that their limb is even lost at all. It's pretty interesting when you look into it.
I didn't literally mean that a phantom has popped out the abyss and acted as their lost limbs, but I think it's half psychological and half your nerves acting up.
That actually is what is speculated to cause these cases. The cut off nerves are still up and about and the psychological effect of having a limb removed has made people go crazy for some reason. Such as a person will outright deny that their arm is gone, but when you ask them to pick something up with their "arm" they make excuses like they don't want to.
Wow that is crazy :S I've seen this sort of denial in real life and I have to say, it's a little scary. One of those things you can't take for granted: your sanity.
