Hello everyone,
Ok so senior prom is coming up in a few weeks, and i've decided to take my date on a picnic instead of eating at a restaurant for dinner, due to the fact that i lack the money. What im wondering is, any suggestions on what i should cook for her?
Thanks in advance!

Don't go too crazy. Something simple that shows you put a little effort into it, but not to the point of obsessing.

Hmmm...If it's for prom I'd suggest some sort of Italian menu. Of course depending on what you make it could completely ruin your clothing if you aren't careful when eating it. Lasagna or some form of Pasta with a salad to the side and some french bread would make for a good dinner. That should be a cheap and quick alternative.
I'd also suggest baking(?) a chicken in the oven with some mashed potatoes, some white/fried rice as a side dish, and some form of salad.
Oh and for desert I'd either go with an Ice cream sundae, or an apple pie. You can never go wrong with pie. :3
Good luck.

Grilled chicken breasts can work well since they can be served hot or cold and can also be made into a tasty sandwich. Potato salad, or coleslaw make a nice side dish. All are pretty easy to make but still show you put some effort into it.

^This but more ingredients used. (Don't forget the olive at the top. It shows you actually put effort into this picnic)

^Get this basket and make decorations and organize fruits and food into colorful and catchy order.
That is what I would do with my gf cuz she's a fan of cute things, and she tells me this is something she would find really cute. :D
I hope the dinner goes well!

Do you want it a fancy picnic? Or do you want it a real picnic?
Answer this and I'll see what I can think of.

Alright, now to go find said basket and blanket :D, i was thinking of going to the park near by where prom is, scenic part of the park i think would be effective.

Not too fancy, but cute, where simplicity stays and impresses her.
Thanks for the ideas everyone!

make some skewers with cherry tomatoes mozzarella basil and balsamic vinegar. you can do a grilled chicken wrap with pesto and for dessert you can just do simple fresh strawberries dipped in chocolate.

Do some deviled eggs. They are great finger foods. And do a Pita filled with Chicken Salad.
Pita bread is a great because it is cheap but it isn't as bad as regular bread and looks better to the eyes.
It may seem like a lot of work but believe me it isn't. You can get all of these Items in a grocery store at about $25-$30 dollars. A little extra effort in the kitchen has always gone a long way.
8 Large eggs
1 teaspoon (Celery Salt
1 teaspoon Paprika
1/4 cup Mayonnaise
A few quirts of mustard.
Hard Boil the Eggs. After they are done boiling put the eggs in a bath of ice water for about 15 minutes to cool them down. Remove the shell and cut them in half vertically removing the yolk from each side. Add the yolks to a separate bowl. Mix in the mayonnaise mustard and paprika until the egg yolks are creamy. If needed add more mayo. dollop the yolks back into the little craters and enjoy. Sprinkle a little Paprika on top of the eggs for a nice look.
They should look like this

Consider your options carefuly. nothing messy or oily that can mess up your fancy pants. where i'm from all parks close 1/2hour after sunset, so one asshole cop can ruin the night by giving you both a ticket.
i've had cheap ass date success with selections of bread, cheese, cured meat, and good beer and/or wine. if you are too young for alcohol, go with water and fruit juice.

Alcohol? thats after-prom status. Im pretty sure the park where im going to, wouldn't close at that time. If anything, i got backup plans :D
Such great help, thanks!

I think i'll make the sandwiches using focaccia bread.

I had a big dinner party once, but the bevrage clashed with the main dish*. we wound up drinking tap water. it was a surprise because i had had the bevrage and the dish before(seperately), and they were both good.
so what ever you decide on, be sure to sample it all together ahead of time.
*[size=10]both had artificial flavors in them, and together they tatsed like band-aids.[/h]
