Is skimpy clothing overused?

This reminds me of a "too much fanservice" thread. But let's stick with the topic. For me, I don't mind as long as it doesn't get to ridiculous. I feel that an anime is trying too hard when the skirts of women are "Rosario Vampire: The Anime" size. I mean come on, the damn things were 2 inches long >_>.
Another case in point is in the Soul Calibur series; Ivy.
The more sequels that SC had, the skimpier the clothing if you aren't familiar with the SC series. As I reiterate in the first paragraph, as long as it isn't ridiculous.

Former GameSpot editor Jeff Gerstmann described the alterations to her appearance for Soulcalibur IV as unnecessary, stating "boobs are awesome, but there's a line. Ivy is over this line."The more sequels that SC had, the skimpier the clothing if you aren't familiar with the SC series. As I reiterate in the first paragraph, as long as it isn't ridiculous.

first rule of anime. NEEDS MORE FANSERVICE! yet at the same time this is also one of the reasons it gets a bad rep, so yes and no at the same time. maybe more skimpage and skinship, but less offen
I thought the first rule was to make a great show, regardless of fan service not in existence. I guess that would be for ecchi cartoons(anime) yes?

nah all i was trying to say is there can always be more, but you have to know when to put it in, if theres a scene every few episodes that is outrages fan service to the point were its almost hentai, i think that be acceptable, but i agree it gets annoying when they constantly flash the small stuff like the pantie shots or short skirts ext ext.

It's a little jarring how apathetic all the other posts here are on the subject...
Yes, it's fiction, but remember: these depictions of women really aren't flattering to, or reflective of, the vast majority of the sex itself.
Doesn't that rub anyone else the wrong way? :S

I think it's overused, if I wanted to see a half naked chick I'd watch hentai. Stop shoving tits in my face and develop an actual storyline, plox.^This. Exactly this.

I did not vote, too difficult of a choice. How can I vote between these two? Lol. I like both of them. Equally.

No I like the skimpy cloths. The more we can see the better. One of the reason that nuns will never be considered to be hot to me. TAKE IT OFF!!!!!!!!

But when this is overused and applied to every single character, doesn't this just make them look like cheap sluts? In this concept I can see where you are coming from, as in fanservice being the rule and not an expection in the series makes it less special and thus less effective.
Still, I have to disagree with the quoted statement. 'Cheap slut' is only one, and rather negative one, interpretation of a woman in skimpy clothes. Another one could be a confident lady that is not ashamed of her sexuality.
Yeah, I voted for 'blasphemy'. Fiction is all about appealing to the consumers, and this appeals to me. =P

It's very simple to me: if you are going to fight, you need to be as covered as possible. Chainmail bikinis and the like are worthless. I think they always put them in to draw men to watch shows. I can't think of a different reason.

OT: Way, WAY too overused. Leave something to the imagination, please.
