What's the point in making yourself look "perfect" or "good" for that matter, anyway? Just so people would like you? Pathetic.
I guess the point is that you should like yourself? If you don't like your current appearance and easily can fix it, what is stopping you? I think it is more pathetic to complain and lol at others.

You feel better about yourself when people like you. If you think thats pathetic then you probably aren't worried about the way you look - and that's OKAY. As for those who are, let them be. Different strokes right?

There are days where it's not even about 'looking terrible' it's just feeling terrible. You just feel off balanced, sluggish, and when you look at the mirror all you see is what you feel on the inside.
Other days you feel great, and you feel like you look great.
I don't play that game, fishing for compliments, but I'll ask valid questions if I'm rushing out the door. "Do I have any lumps on the back of my head? (hair: after pulling it up and tying it back)"

Nowhere did I complain that I feel bad about how I look.

Well, the "cut your hair" part was a joke. Besides, it's your choice: to get a girl that like your current appearance or to change your appearance in a way that you think girls would like better.
And no, maybe not, but the point was that it is less pathetic to use make-up to look good if you want to rather than to say "he/she only looks good cuz of make-up". Like, "So? He/she still looks good?".

If you already feel like you look nice, you like the way you look, then you ASK someone if you look nice (cause you know, your just checking) then you are kinda fishing. Why else would you ask espescially since you already like the way you look, why bother with a second opinion?
Or not.
Sometimes I think we just want our efforts to be apperciated.
IT AIN'T EASY TURNING THIS INTO THIS

She referenced a specific thing he should be looking for, not a general "do I look good". Asking, "Do I have lumps in my hair?" sounds about on the same level as "Do I have lint on my back?"
Also. I'll admit it, I'm a makeup addict. :| I cannot leave the house, not even for a friend's house or to go running, without makeup. I know a lot of the time it's not necessary, since I either a) Don't want to impress anyone there (ie, family reunion), or b) The people there already love me and would still love me if I weren't ~*omg gorgeous sparkles*~ all the time (friends). But I just can't go without makeup. If I'm not wearing it, all I will be able to think about is how bad I look, no matter what I'm doing. I need it to feel good about myself. :\ Sad thing is, I'm not even abnormal. A shocking amount of women are made to feel this way through social pressure and media influence.
I wish I weren't so hard on myself, but I really just can't accept myself if I'm not looking at least somewhat good.

Women have so much more pressure to be attractive than men. Almost every girl will obsess about how bad she looks, so no, she's not crazy. Just a product of a society with too much emphasis on looks. D:You are so incredibly spot on here... I love it!!! I'm taking a Women's Studies course right now and that's one of the points that has come up this semester! I love coming across it outside of the classroom, though. It means people are learning! (Even if said people are only some of the women out there!)

But really I think that this appearance thing is something in our genes. I mean if you look at the magical bright world outside your homes, or watch the discovery channel, you'll notice that all animals have the need to impress potential mates. Some groom themselves, some have big pretty feathers, or they make impressive homes or dances. Then the mate chooses the best bred or the most impressive of the bunch.... or the two mates just fight over one.. Either way they choose one then go do the dirty.. or cleanly. Donno which you all prefer, that one is up to you guys :p
Donno if I'm making any since or not... Maybe I'm having a blond moment?

Yes, I do believe the female gender does have quite a bit of pressure put on them in terms of looks. They have to look nice to impress, and attract someone. This has been said many times, and feels like it's been programmed into us, be it our surroundings, or what we see in magazines and the TV everyday. Honestly, I think it's bullshit. You can't find someone, or feel confident about yourself, because you aren't wearing make up or eye liner? The price is wrong. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not picky in that sense, and find it ridiculous that a lady has to put 5 pounds of make up on till they finally feel decent about themselves, and than proceed to question it none the less, whether this is done by instinct, or an adapted response.
To be fair, males have a fair amount of pressure put on them as well. If not looks, it's attitude and confidence. It seems to be just as important as how you ladies seem to look. Women don't have to worry as much about this as men do. However, if us guys do not have confidence, or have that oh so mightier than thou, alpha male attitude, we get the shitty end of the stick.
My point? Everyone should learn to worry less about this shit, and ignore what you see in television, or that magazine. While it should be important to an extant (such as you have a job interview, or you're going somewhere nice), it should not be the decision maker.
OK, I'm done playing philosopher. Gonna go play L4D2 or something.
Otakumax, don't give people ideas. :P
