Songs that are superior than their originals
0
What are songs that you feel are superior than their original versions? Whether it be vocally or a complete rebuild of the song, some people may improve songs to be much better than how the original artist made it to be. Or sometimes it is the original artist themselves who improve the song.
Post the song that you find superior, its original, and why you think it is better.
Song: Sweet Sweet Cendrillon Drug
Original Artist: uzP
Remix: Muryoku-P
Muryoku-P:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKu4e7p73dI
I just love Muryoku-P's version over uzP's version completely. The entire song rebuild, the vocals, and that scream at the climax of the song. I just love it.

Song: Love 2 Hate
Original Artist: Undead Corporation (Blow album)
Older version: Hate 2 Love
Love 2 Hate:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFEYsvN1atA
The 2011 version completely dominates the original. The male singer and the adding of
Akemi to the song makes this song absolutely amazing. I don't even like the original.
Hate 2 Love:

Song: World no hope remains
Original Artist: Undead Corporation(Blow album)
Older Version: World no hope remains
World no hope remains 2011:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWlco5LKnA0
Again, by adding Akemi she completely turns the song around and places it on a totally new level.
World no hope remains:

Song: Reon
Original Artist: Yuyoyuppe
Cover Singer: Shoohey
Shoohey:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jY019Tf_yAw
There is just so much more emotion in this song compared to the original. Not to mention his screams are amazing. True, while vocaloid is good, they still can't compare to human vocals 100%.
Yuyoyuppe:

Song: Bad Apple!!
Original Composer: ZUN
Arrangement: Masayoshi Minoshima
Remix: Yuyoyuppe
Yuyoyuppe:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0rCPUmG4I0
It's a rock version of the famous Bad Apple!! song with Merami singing. I have no further need to like it.

So basically covers that are better than the original.
Muse - Feeling Good
Both version are very good but it feels refreshing to hear a rock cover.
Nina Simone - Feeling Good
Johnny Cash - Hurt
Cash put his entire soul in to this song, he made it his own. People remember his cover more than the original song.
Nine Inch Nails - Hurt
Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower
This song got Hendrix'd.
Bob Dylan - All Along the Watchtower
The Beatles - Twist and Shout
The Beatles made this song so much better.
Top Notes - Twist and Shout
Dinah Washington - This Bitter Earth & Max Richter - On the Nature of Daylight
Not sure if this counts, but it's a mashup and it's soooo goood.

Seu Jorge - Changes (Cover)
David Bowie - Changes (Original)
Don't get me wrong, I love the Bowie version as well, but Seu Jorge is just that fucking good.
Ballad of a Thin Man - Mike Patton & the Jamie Saft Trio (Cover)
Ballad of a Thin Man - Bob Dylan (Original)
What can I say, the original is crap compared to the Jamie Saft version, which technically would be a cover of the cover by Stephen Malkmus that is played in the "I'm not there" movie, but w/e.
The Ballad of Hank McCain - Mike Patton & John Zorn (Cover)
The Ballad of Hank McCain - Ennio Morricone(Original)
Again, Patton is amazing and everything he touches turns to gold. The man is talent unprecedented.
Blowing in the wind - Peter, Paul & Mary (Cover)
Blowing in the wind - Bob Dylan (Original)
(a different) Bitch - Room Eleven (Cover)
Bitch - Meredith Brooks (Original)
To be fair, Meredith Brook's version sucks, so it's not really hard to make a cover that is better than it. However, Room Eleven made an amazingly good job overing this song.
They have actually done another cover of this song as well, and this version is the more famous one. It's also extremely good, but personally I prefer the (a different) version more.

This is the only one that popped into my mind right off the bat, ill post more later if i think of them
Adrenaline Mob's cover of Come Undone by Duran Duran... basically take a catchy Duran Duran song, turn it into a metal song and throw my favorite singer of all time, Russel Allen into it.

Here's a cover I really prefer over the original; "Bad Company" by Five Finger Death Punch. I think they pack more of a punch and truly make the tone that this song deserves. Nothing against the original, but I think FFDP covered it how it should have been. The original is still fantastic however.

Song: Want (Architect Steppa)
Original Artist: Recoil - Liquid (2000)
Older Version: Want
Want:
http://youtu.be/QQrGRR6Su4E
The original is cool, but it's just way too long, and I tend to get bored of it quickly.
Want (Architect Steppa):

Now as far as this mix goes...it's perfect. It has this alluring sound to it, and it's so erotic...I can't help but want to dance to it.

Song: Breakn' A Sweat
Original: Skrillex & The Doors
Superior: Remix by Zedd
Zedd makes it less annoying to listen to, and it's actually kinda catchy.

(average at best) Hello Seattle - Owl City
(TENOUTTATEN!) Hello Seattle - Owl City (Remixed by him)
I never liked the song "City Escape" (or any sonic game in general), but the remix in the game "Sonic Generations" is actually really good.

The moment I saw this thread's title, one song came to mind immediately... Girl, You'll be a Woman Soon.
The original by Neil Diamond is pretty good, and I happen to really like Neil Diamond (I know, make fun of me all you want. But the guy wrote some great songs. Cherry Cherry, Love on the Rocks, Shilo, Forever in Blue Jeans... I could go on for a while.) I like this version, but if I were to get a Neil Diamond greatest hits CD and this weren't on it, it wouldn't be a big loss.
Neil Diamond - Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon
But the cover version by Urge Overkill for the Pulp Fiction soundtrack blows it clean out of the water. It's the song that got me into Urge Overkill, and now they're one of my favorite bands ever.

Original: Mercy - Duffy
Better: Dancing Queen - Girls' Generation
Visually, 1 lady with a whiny voice < 9 hot girls with long legs in tight jeans. Yeah. Though if I was comparing vocally, I'd say Duffy wins.
