Floyd Mayweather Jr. versus Juan Manuel Marquez July 18
So pretty boy has finally came out of his short retirement and getting back into the ring to fight JMM. I have seen both of them fight in the ring, and see that they are quite similar in their techniques. Mayweather Jr hardly ever wastes a punch and has good accuracy. JMM is also a also a technical fighter with admirable defensive skills with his counter punches. Their bouts are not really crowd pleasers, but to a boxing enthusiast like me, I'm anxious to see who is the better technician.

Reminds me of Miyata Ichiro when it comes to counter punching... I'm a infighter through and through, I like to go in and pummel the opponent before he knew what hit him.

I don't know if it would be fair to compare Mayweather Jr vs Ricky Hatton and the Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez fights. JMM is more active then pretty boy, but I wonder if Pretty boy can keep the rounds in his favor fighting a veteran boxer.

Marquez VS Pacquiao III needs to happen only Marquez is the one known up to now that can stand and last the distance and damage in the ring with pacman. If he ever wins against Mayweather jr. that is.

I'm a guy who doesn't follow any of the current boxing news or media - I simply do it for the sport and fun of it because fuck, it's awesome at delivering damage and KOs with your two arms only. I actually got into it from watching Hajime no Ippo, and to this day I practice boxing when I can.
I suppose of all people I take after Mike Tyson in his agressive approach and guard (infighting), but I favor my right cross and right/left hooks instead of uppers and body blows. So, anybody up for discussing boxing techniques? Anybody box?

I know I know, just that the point of damage comes from the fists. Everything else is used in the deliverance of punch. Unlike Muay Thai, boxing you only have to worry about the arms and not legs. That's what I meant.
More often than not, I use a lot of waist movement to get that extra centrifugal force and add more momentum (power) to my liver blows and hooks and even my right cross. Shoulders are just important as well as wrist snapping. Even your legs can give you punch even more accleration similar to kendo strikes.

I also got into boxing because of Hajime no Ippo. It's such a legit anime/manga sports series because many of its moves are real and scientifically proven with references to real live boxers. Another great thing about boxing is that it is terrific for cardio workouts and getting your body in shape. You're not only learning self-defense, you're also toning your body into a stamina machine. It's a great sport for anyone to pick up.
I haven't been at my local gym due to college, but I can't wait to get back into the gym and let it rip at the punching bags in the boxing corner. (no ring, but theres a boxing equipment set up.)

I use to box at a local gym last summer, had to quit because of the overload of school work. When you train, always train with 8 ounce gloves, why? Once you take those gloves off your fist become light as a feather. The basic techniques you need to know are jabs, hooks, upper cuts, weeves, ducks, and what I call lean backs.
My old schedule:
[list]1. warm up with a jog or bike for 30 mins ( not too intense or will get tired during your training)
2. stretches, the more it hurts the better.
3. Using a heavy bag
a.start off with jabs and switch stances. 15 mins
b.Then work your straight punches ( your back hand) 15 mins
c.Hooks 15 mins
d.Upper cuts 15 mins
in all the basic punches work in your weeves, ducks, and lean backs[/list:u]
when you get the hang of it and your form is good, replace your basic heavy bag routine with a freestyle heavy bag routine, ex. (a basic jab, straight, hook.) Train till you don't have a repeated set of punches. 15 mins- 10 seconds break - 15mins - 10 sec break 15 mins - 10 second break-15 mins-break.
Try to work the speed bag it's all about timing.
Shadow box if you don't have a heavy bag, being in front of a mirror would be a plus.
For strength training basic push ups, leg lifts, crunches. Only pick up weights if you looking to gain muscle. Personally, I feel faster not gaining extra muscle weight on my arm.
I picked up boxing for the sport and the training, I am not a dumb ass looking for a fight on the street.

@Jonoe: I salute your boxing routine and training.
I've never really formerly trained, but as a martial arts practioner (as one can get in his/her spare time) I think I get the form down. Since I'm more concerned about weight loss and building muscle, my workout at the boxing corner is very limited since I'm pretty tired by the end of my workout. The last 5-10 minutes reserved for boxing are spent getting my punching form down, though I also practice stances and shadow-boxing. I find it hard to practice uppercuts with a heavy bag... but I do know the form.
In terms of working out, why I work my muscles is because of my own personal condition. To offset that, I muscle train, but I go for more reps than sets to burn off the calories/fat than to bulk up.
What type of fighter do you consider yourself to be, Jonoe? There's four types I believe, outfighter, puncher, infighter, and slugger. I would liken myself to an infighter.

I'm kind of cautious when I talk about my martial arts background, because I don't like to brag and be that one dumb ass saying he can beat up anyone. When I was younger I use train in Jow Ga Kung Fu at the Virginia Beach branch. It's has ties with the Wong and Hung Gar schools on the east coast; white dragon and lotus schools on the west coast.
@ G-money, I guess we are similar in trying to fit our training schedule with our school life. Honestly , I want to train to condition my body, if I don't get that burning sensation in my lungs every once in awhile I feel depressed.
With uppercuts, it is hard to use on a heavy bag. I get one of my buddies to hold sparring mitts and spar with him. Not only will it help me with combos and form, but it will also help out with your endurance training.
What kind of fighter am I? I guess you can say I am an outfighter, I wait for my opponent to throw a punch, I block and at the same time throw a punch or kick when he is open from his first punch. I try not to stick to just that I just try to adjust to the situation. T__T now I want to go back to the gym, I'm not be on fakku for awhile if that happens.

I don't have a partner when I work out at the gym. As for discussing martial arts background, the more you divulge the more I'll be interested in. On the net, you can talk whatever you want and it really won't affect you, so don't be afraid of talking about martial arts. To a certain degree, one can tell if he/she's bullshitting you about how he/she can kick ass.

Necro bumping this thread :3
So who wants to see Mayweather Jr get the shit knocked out of him by Mosley on May 1st? My money is on Mosley, so far after retiring for over a year Mayweather Jr has only fought fighters below his weight class. So can Mayweather back up his talk with his skills in the ring?
Please post your thoughts and opinions please.
