Too gay for American Apparel

My sister(who is an employee at American Apparel clothing outfitters) told me that recently a memo was sent out urging all managers to fire all homosexual employees. Another deplorable practice the company employs is to tell all new employees to avoid helping ugly people and to act downright rude if approached. The last thing that bothers me is they tend to take a picture of each new employee and send it to head office to judge if the person is attractive enough to work for the company.
Any of you witness other incidents like this in your time working?
inb4 softbanker insults.
inb4 "so you got fired?".

Certainly, you jest. That sounds almost law breaking, if not down right retarded. Not only are you alienating a group of people, but you're denying service to what probably is a good chunk of your customer ratio. I have never encountered anything like this, nor do I think I ever would.
I find fewer and fewer things to keep faith in, in humanity. I swear.

That sounds almost law breakingIf what I understand from Canadian/American law it's perfectly legal. They aren't discriminating again people based on gender, religion, race, etc. As long as they aren't discrimination against people based on gender, religion, sexual orientation or race.
Edit: Forgot about the memo in OP.
I agree it's a stupid business plan but, it's their business and their decision.

A number of federal court decisions have held that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 also protects job applicants and employees from discrimination based on their sexual orientation. A few states have laws specifically prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation. At present, there are 13 states and more than 200 municipalities (counties and cities) that also have laws that prohibit sexual orientation discrimination.

Got Megane?
Can't say I've seen it done, but when I walk around the shopping centre in my area I notice only attractive/goodlooking people working in most of the clothing stores, especially high end ones, just really starting there looking their part, I've never seen a "ugly" person enter and get denied service though. The only place I've seen, what some might call unattractive women/men were at the clothing stores for large size women, I've even seen some guys I'd label as gay working there, though I can't really prove that they are.

Forgot about that memo that was mentioned. Oh well, we all make mistakes.

Im sure management has its reasons, which are rational - business wise.
I dont shop there, I dont like their clothes they look... I dont know the word to describe them.

American law quote, Canadian subject.
I fail to see how this could be considered "rational".

I don't shop at American Apparel because I find a lot of their clothes to be just outright ugly and unfashionable, but this seems like such a peculiar move on their part...

Sounds just like Abercrombie & Fitch a couple of years back with the whole "Don't hire black people." scheme. It's a common trend these days to ward off people companies don't see fit...

I've seen people that haven't been denied service, but have been treated like trash by the workers there, and then when they ask to see the manager the manager refuses to see them.
Personally, though, I don't know why my friend got so upset. At those kinds of store you basically pay $60 for a silk-screened shirt I could make in 2 minutes at my old high school's graphic arts lab.
EDIT: I could see this being in the serious discussion sub-forum.
