                        So we meet again, FAKKU...
Me and my brother made plans aprox. 5 months ago for a 10-day trip to Japan, my first international trip(his ~5th). The date was set to just over two weeks from today... naturally, the excitement grows.
We're staying the first half in/near Tokyo, then taking the train to Kyoto for the second half. We both got the JR rail pass, so we'll probably head to different areas throughout the trip.
Now, I was simply curious as to whether or not anyone had a few suggestions on things I should check out while I'm there.
While I have a few plans already laid-out, there's so much shit to do that I don't even know about, it would be foolish not to ask.
Also, I just recently bought a new $200 camera with this trip in mind. If any interest is shown in the matter, I'll be sure to take/post a few pictures in Fakku's honor.

ahh! just from what i know about tokyo id probaly spend the vast majority of my time and money in akihabara, but in the end i think its about what you want to get out of the trip. thats what you should base your tour off of

Check out Daikoku Futo. One of the best places to check out if your into the street racing scene. Of course, being Japan, it probably isn't too hard to find any at night or even during the day.

Most definite thanks for the suggestions so far.
Oh hell yeah, Akihabara is top on my list. Certainly going to look into the other places listed as well(might have to get wasted 'before' heading into Ni-chome though)
Slight lower on my list is fucking with the Yakuza... I hear they break people's fingers inward, thus preventing the ability to masturbate comfortably...
Truly a horrific thought to any visitor of Fakku

What do you already plan on doing?Unfortunately not a significant amount. Nothing really out of the normal of what you would expect. Browse around the temples and such in Kyoto(Not totally sure what else to do there). Check out Akihabara and a few of the main parks in Tokyo. Find some good Sushi, keep on the lookout for interesting street vender food/vending machines, bars, lots of staring at the little Japanese locals, possible bath house/hot spring...
Neither of us are into clubs, and my bro does not drink(though that won't stop me)... so in all likely hood it'll be a mellow trip.
Being we've both got a rail pass, we're planning to randomly go visit other places outside of our main destinations when we feel like doing something else, however I know very little about locations in Japan.
Essentially any idea(s) would be greatly appreciated. Admittedly I've got a large amount of time to fill. While we're both pretty good at picking things up on the fly, I don't want to miss out on something really cool on a rare trip like this.

Go to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In that order as well, and two days apart from each other.
Best I could offer is go to the Gunma prefecture and see if you can visit peter and the J-List Staff.

Sadly, you are just going to miss Fukuro Matsuri. It is a pretty neat festival where they actually try to get foreigners to participate in traditional japanese things like drums, folk dancing, and carrying mikoshi. I think is always the last week of September so you'll just miss it.
If your still in Tokyo on the 10th though, I will tell you now - SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR THE TENTH.
Dai Ginza Matsuri starts and sales go on like crazy. Even big name companies have mad sales. It is a little hectic, but you can get some really cool things for cheap. If you buy any high price souviners, you might want to ask if it is going on sale first when Dai Ginza Matsuri starts. Plus, this festival has crazy cool parades. I went to it, and being from lousiana it reminded me of a mellower Mardi Gras (Mardi Gras without drunkenness and girls flashing you).

Go to the store Melon Books in Akihabara its like a dungeon of porn, You could (I did) spend HOURS there! :)
I went there the first day just randomly going into places around Akiba, (For me) not an easy place to find whats really confusing is that before you get to the staircase to do downstairs you walk through a miniture arcade with those grabber machine things. (When I first went there I mustve just been cruising the arcades or something otherwise I doubt I wouldve found the motherfucking place) >__<
Really nice place, Less 'stressful' than Toranoana even though Toranoanas really nice.
Maid cafes are really scary though, You see a beautiful girl on the street hawking her trade then you get ambushed and given a leaflet telling you to go to a certain place. (I actually kept 3 leaflets but I cant read 1 cause its in Japanese)
I went into one and just looking around it seemed creepy to me! (Not my thing, Maybe ive missed out somehow on the whole "Experiencing Japan" thing by not indulging hard enough)
There was one place in which a White girl was working but I cant remember whether it was Cutie Relax or one of the MaiDreamin ones?
Aaaaah well.... Go anyway and check it out! :D
I thought that the Pachinko parlours were rubbish too, Gave it a few goes but it just seemed stupid and depressing to me! Id rather gamble on sporting events (Something I can understand) but for some reason thats illegal in Japan. (?)
I got lost in a store in Shibuya (Not a pleasant experience) and because ive got simple tastes I prefered shopping for clothes in Ueno TBH! Theres also the park amongst other things to do there. (Uenos definately worth a visit, Probably my favourite area) :)
Tip: When you go into a convenience store and you pick up something that you think is Milk check to make sure that it isnt this sickly sweet whiteish coloured isotonic 'sports drink' that comes in a carton cleverly designed to look like a Milk carton whilst suspiciously being stocked right next to the actual Milk. >__> *Surprise Motherfucker*
