urban survival scenario.

so say that something happens and the entire power grid goes down and the soonest it will be repairble is years from now, or that a super bug hits [no zombies] with a 50 percent kill rate and no cure, when society breaks down how will you survive?
ive come up with a 150 page guild specific to my local area on this kinda thing [not to much free time its taken months to finish] and ive been wondering how will you do it? some of the highpoints on my plan are using car battery's wired together and a ac converter to achieve household power leves, along with hand-crank/treadmill generators to reacharge them. and a rather simple rain catching system and water storage tanks, so what about you fakku. whats your plan

Before i answer i have two q's...
1. The "bug" is it airborne, contact, or imbreed?
2. How much of the "world" power source is gone? Are we talking Apocalyptic scenario or Armageddon?

I will locate and stockpile guns.
I will then find men with families still alive.
I will then tell them I will kill their families if they don't do my tasks.

i wish this would happen anyways, i'm from the boonies back home so if it happen when i was back in the good usa and at the place of my birth... nothing. we have your own water system with a back up generator for the house, water pumps and about 500 gals of diesel, my pick up runs on diesel or homemade biodiesel, just go raid the mcd's in town. guns, food, and meds... just need internet to be perfect.. here in kobe.. im fucked

Since i now know. Thanks trekki for clarifying, I live near a ARNG armory south of town. Its stocked with MRE's, gas masks, M4's, Humvees. Its almost near the middle of a deserted place, surrounded by shipping plants, food producers and what not. Now, i can barricade my self in my home, but because this place is corrupted, water, clean new water, is only available via filter, and often times come with prices, id loot the shit out of the FFLess right near my house. Food for a couple of days/weeks, rifle at my side, NBC mask, and water all right there. Assuming i survive. My city is all urban territory at the dead center. I live just a little on the outskirts. Survival at its finest.

nice nice. but what about the power scenario? ive gone as far as not only planing for my own survival, [looting and stockpile food ext] but going on in the long term to help any other people out there and forming a colony. its cool yet scary to think about lol

I do not deny that the scenario Trekki859 came up with has the possibility of coming true. All events have a probabilty of happening; some high, others low. However, at this point in time, it is a "what if" scenario. As such, I am moving this thread over to the random section.
I would urge all users to remain on topic.

Well... either way.. im screwed cause i live in Vancouver... so same strat as for zombies :D
1: get group of no larger than 5
2: get some guns and ammo [stockpile it]
3: [assuming a evac. is in place] get to a highrise, and barricade penthouse
4: knock out 2 flights of stairs and rewire the main breaker panel so you panel runs the building to prevent intruders [kill power to elevator when not in use]
5: stockpile food and ride it out

I will do what my government tells me.
If im sick ill get quarantined if not then ill carry on in the usual way as best as possible, Join the 'Territorial Army' or whatever if needed. *Dependant on how shitty the situation is*
I have absolute faith in my Country, People and Government no matter how bad the situation seems to be. (The old blitz spirit is still alive no matter how bad an image the media give to Britain)

Undoubtedy I would begin to use small plastic bags for everything. For one part, I can use them as insulators against the disease, and also as a quasi 2 minute gas mask. If I stock up on fire-arms they can be used as faux silencers so I'm not that worried about that. All that needs to be known is that whoever stocks up on the most plastic bags, rules the world (case in point, saying that it does happen, if It doesnt then you just look like some crazy ass retard down the street with a million plastic bags~. If it does then yeah, haters be fucked)

No powergrid = no internets, so I'd die of boredom I think.
Joking aside I don't really know what I'd do, I don't really plan for stuff like this as I'm unlucky enough to be one of the ones who would die pretty early on.

Well, so, weapons to fight against what, since it's not zombies? what is the enemy? is it fast? slow? or I just got paranoid and I'm hallucinating that holocaust and I'm killing everybody because I see them as super bugs?
I mean... I'm fighting bugs? I need a machine gun to kill them or they can die with a flea swapper?

no. it be your fellow man. when people are desprate they get violent. if i had food but not enouge to share with you even tho you were starving [literley] or water wouldint you do everything in your power to get it? when our nice little perfect world breaks down i see a lot of people snaping.

I'd first make my way towards the local supermarket about 1-1½ mile away from my house to stock up on as much conserves and bottled water I can carry and that hasn't already been salvaged, and probably a kerosene stove too, and then make way to the bomb-shelter that also is quite close by. This entire trip would by foot take less than a few hours, so I would also have time to salvage a car or two for the batteries and the bomb-shelter also has its own generator.
The shelter has room for a lot of people, and I can only guess that people would do something similar to what I've done so the only really hard part would be keeping the sick ones in quarantine and try to make sure that the "bug" doesn't spread.

However, I do agree with you, why so much weapons? I got the argument about the other human beings becoming violent, but is all that artillery needed?
I'm somehow amazed how our (I say our as in generally, the human reaction) first reflex is to isolate ourselves, find a place to stay and create a fortress (or something that could hold a siege).
Wouldn't it be more coherent and safe to reunite all the survivors, sharing the weapons, the goods, the food and resources, while slowly erasing the threat of being attacked by even more desperate people? It's not the easiest way, I have to admit that creating a community under such circumstances is not what comes to mind first...
Well, for me, the plan would consist in trying to get people to work together, though it sounds impossible in nowadays' societies.

Since that anime came out, everyone is "zombie this", "zombie that", and whatnot. Now kinda seemed the same thing but without the zombies.
And I totally agree with you. I mean, if its not something that is killing people on streets, there would be a lot less people, and they can still go outside. Just gather together, plant some shit, eat grass or whatever.
The whole town where I live have like 80k of inhabitants, so, how much would remain after that catastrophe? let's say... 1000? that being optimist. Certainly not a dangerous threat. I would assault a place where they sell seeds, go somewhere near a river and start planting. And then turn my real life into a fking harvest moon game, where you live in a town with less than 30 persons and make a live out of selling turnipples.
