Well, so, weapons to fight against what, since it's not zombies? Haha, so only zombies are threats in a post-apocalyptic world heh? lol
However, I do agree with you, why so much weapons? I got the argument about the other human beings becoming violent, but is all that artillery needed?
I'm somehow amazed how our (I say our as in generally, the human reaction) first reflex is to isolate ourselves, find a place to stay and create a fortress (or something that could hold a siege).
Wouldn't it be more coherent and safe to reunite all the survivors, sharing the weapons, the goods, the food and resources, while slowly erasing the threat of being attacked by even more desperate people? It's not the easiest way, I have to admit that creating a community under such circumstances is not what comes to mind first...
Well, for me, the plan would consist in trying to get people to work together, though it sounds impossible in nowadays' societies.
Since that anime came out, everyone is "zombie this", "zombie that", and whatnot. Now kinda seemed the same thing but without the zombies.
And I totally agree with you. I mean, if its not something that is killing people on streets, there would be a lot less people, and they can still go outside. Just gather together, plant some shit, eat grass or whatever.
The whole town where I live have like 80k of inhabitants, so, how much would remain after that catastrophe? let's say... 1000? that being optimist. Certainly not a dangerous threat. I would assault a place where they sell seeds, go somewhere near a river and start planting. And then turn my real life into a fking harvest moon game, where you live in a town with less than 30 persons and make a live out of selling turnipples.
lol. part of my plan. but the weapons are for before they die of starvation and start raiding houses and whatnot.

Lets all be honest, Western governments have already got countermeasures in place in case of most concievable disasters.
During the cold war we were ready for the 'end of the World' a full blown Nuclear winter. (A percentage of people WOULD'VE survived it)
We are ready for ANYTHING!
No power and a virus that kills off 50 percent of the population is no problem, It might even be a good thing to wipe out half of an already overpopulated World!
Every cloud... :D

...wait, what?
You can say you're prepared for everything, but that's only theoretical knowledge. You won't know just how effective those measures will be until shit hits the fan.
Hurricane Katrina, anyone?
I'd like too see anything done without power. No power = no communications. Which means that government will be unable to react to crisis of any larger scope than strictly local...and I'm not even mentioning the shut-downed hospitals, household electricity etc. No matter what, people will start to panic in this situation. And government people might be very well be among them.
Even in case of massive EMP blast post nuclear attack, it is assumed that power (ergo communications) will be restored and that you should hold out until then... but there's only for so long that you can do it for.
Your virus comment is simply silly. What makes you think that governmental officials and those responsible for maintain at least some civilization (hospital staff for example) will be immune to disease? They'll most likely rot along with the corpses of their citizens, piling up in the street. And *that* is sure to get people riled. I would be scare shitless if the street near my flat was covered in corpses. And history has showed many times over what happens then. "Every man for himself". Anarchy and fear.
And world isn't overpopulated, it's just us being incompetent at governing living space and food supplies.

If you mean those 4 million people in England (I'm using an example from old British documentary), then yeah. And they would live in conditions that would make Middle Ages look like holiday camp.
And try telling that to all those who would die in blasts or what would follow them.
I'm playing devil's advocate here, but it's really a bit of twisted logic applied.

I dont have any information on what happened with Hurricane Katrina but im sure there must've been "factors" involved that lead to incompetance.
Im not saying that everything would go swimmingly and everyone would skip down a mountain in the garden of eden after the disaster with rainbow smiles on their faces its just me being optimistic.
We can all bitch an moan and say the usual boring things like: Get a good bunch of 'friends' together, Arm ourselves with guns, Sing a bunch of songs around a camp fire and raid the local mini mart La La La La La and dont get me wrong where you live that may be what will actually go on but I come from a small part of UK which is in itself basically a tiny island the size of a single US state. I have confidence in my area and the people of my town also that the local government that would arise in the moment of crisis would be able to cope reasonably well considering the circumstances that were described in the opening of this thread, Thats all im saying!

In the post apocalyptic world you must remember that:
1. Negotiation is NOT the best way to go
Trying to cooperate with others you barely know will eventually lead to your death.
2. If you think he's a problem KILL HIM NOW
If it's a she, rape her
3. LOOT LOOT LOOT
You know what I mean
4. When choosing a hideout, prefer something like a basement or anything underground.
Cause choosing something big like a school or prison would most likely be the preferred hideout of another group.
5. Your friends are just tools
Let's use this in an example:
You are a group of five, you go to the nearest mall and loot food for five people for 1 week, in about 10 minutes (alone it would take you 50 est.) You drive home to your hideout and kill every one. Food for 5 would get you roughly 5 weeks of food easy.
6. Every one that is not you can not be trusted
NO MERCY
7. Never join any mini civilizations, it will only lead to self destruction
8. Hide and never leave the basement unless it's for food
9. When people offer you help take it and kill them later so you can horde their food
10. You are always alone, never stay in groups.
The longterm wont be so good when in groups

Thanks. If there is a catastrophe, I'll be sure to kill you first and hang out with the zombies/aliens/giant bugs/whatever. They aren't as dangerous as you.
