Video Game Massacre
0
A town in Connecticut is on a hunt to collect and destroy, "violent video games".
"The collected games will then be snapped, tossed into a town dumpster and likely later incinerated." They claim that they do not believe that video games were a cause in the tragedy, but they do believe video games or violent entertainment has played a role in an increase of aggressiveness and other changes in behavior.
Thoughts?

Same goes for the prosecution of Rock music and the burning of books, it's destroying a form of freedom of speech. It's gotten to the point where people are singling out the "weakest" of "to blame" people when it comes to a problem like this. A lot of people nowadays want to be seen like heroes and contributors of "stopping evil" even if it is false and ridiculous like blaming video games.

the getting the video game stuff is voluntary. they're not going on a witch hunt and forcing people to give them their games.
doesn't make it any less dumb though. various studies have shown that video games are not linked to violence, along with movies, books, art, etc.
it's just people going back to their primal instincts of blaming everything but themselves.
instead of "clearly something was wrong with us for not seeing this coming" or "clearly we need a change in gun laws if a derranged sociopath was able to get them so easily" it's "obviously it was due to video games and not due to the fact his mother had open access to 3 semi-auto rifles which are clearly designed to kill and not for self-defense."

If they belong to people/stores, they're destroying property without permission and should be punished to the full extent of the law.

You give them your "violent games" and they'll give you a $25 gift card. If they did randomly destroyed other's games without permission then yes they should be punished.
Honestly, this is stupid. Also... a comment from the link..
1. Buy bargain bin games for $5
2. Sell them for $25 to these idiots
3. ??????
4. Profit
Lolol do eeeeeeeeet.

Oooor... they could just be responsible parents and not let their kids play those games rather than attack and blame the games themselves.

This is good for the video game business. If they destroy the games that people own, they'll just buy a new copy. If they raid stores, they'll order another shipment to restock. We live in a world of mass production. This kind of angry mob has been rendered irrelevant, maybe even turned into an asset.

As said earlier,
People are always looking for a scapegoat to pin violence on. Violence has existed before video games, rock, movies, ect. Honestly I feel much safer in this time period than I would several decades ago.
I was thinking the except same thing. Plus isn't burning and breaking a violent act? Kind of hypocritical if you ask me.

Not quite a witch hunt yet, but getting too close... Let's just hope someone there won't overdo it.

I don't know what good that's gonna do. Wasting their time if you ask me. They should instead be focusing their attention on being better parents.

I don't understand why you people get your panties in a bunch over this. They're clearly stating that they don't think that video games were the cause, or that they want to go on some crusade against violent media.
What they are saying is that they don't approve of the "[...] culture of violence and [size=10][a][/h] recreational culture of violence." which is something that can hardly be condemned.
We're asking parents to better understand what their child is doing. Have a conversation about next steps. If parents are comfortable [with their child's gaming habits], we're comfortable
