Do you feel that there is bias based on your gender in your workplace?

The question to the poll is simple. The question posed in this message isn't. I'm about 6'5. Not only are my job duties more difficult and physically demanding than that of my female contemporaries, I'm also treated differently and I am expected to treat them as if they were apart of some sort of typewriter pool, which I don't think is okay. We all signed up for the same job. All shift duties should be equal to one another, except if perhaps there is some sort of disability that a co-worker suffers from. However, being female and short is not a fucking handicap. I am tired of being expected to think that it is.
Another concern of mine is this. Co-worker #1 comes in late. I ask her why she was so late, that as per manager's request, she come in earlier so that I can do something that should be done as required by the state it is in when it reaches that state. I.E. garbage cans being full. I am told it isn't their problem. I inquire if they would rather I simply left it for them to do. They don't respond. As requested by manager, I clock out right when my shift ends to avoid being paid overtime. Considering I had no time to do the shift task for the incoming shift due to the fact that they came in late. I pretty much had to work for 10 minutes without being paid, which I think is outrageous. I don't work for free, nobody does. It's bullshit to say otherwise. The only stake I have in my workplace is my hourly wage and possibly wage increase. There are no incentives to working harder, to doing more off the clock. The fact of the matter is that I am not going to be doing shit off the clock that I could have done if my co-workers would be decent and arrive when requested.
In regards to co-worker telling me it isn't their problem: Manager came in yesterday afternoon and pulls me aside and starts talking to me about how I allegedly intimidated aforementioned female co-worker. He goes over how tall I am and such, and at this point I'm trying hard not to roll my eyes. I've dealt with the unsavory aspects of being as tall as I am since I grew to this height. He finally lets me talk. I tell him to check the store cameras from around 10:04 PM to 10:15 PM. He watches conversation unfold. Notes that I am ten feet away from co-worker. He apologizes to me for presuming so much and not checking the camera first. But, for me, damage was already done. This shit happens all the time. I feel like quitting. I probably should, obviously getting another job first.

I think we're quite equal where I work, but I do share your pain.
In my last job, I had a few bloody useless women who showed up late with a hang over and didn't get as much as a telling off. I however, get stuck in the thick snow and was 5 minutes late and then next thing I know, i was being interviewed about keeping my position (I was only a part time sales assisstant for a crappy company that is now out of business).
Del, people are parasites and will use what they have to get away with things.
There were some middle aged women who worked at my last job aswell and they did fuck all. All they did wsa make things messy when we swapped over and just gave me more work. I could never say anything about it because they were laughing with the manager in the back who did fuck all and took 3-4 hours lunch break and left the male supervisor to do the work. Yes she is not out of a job. I love karma.
Anyway, my new job is pretty equal and they treat us quite well. Our manager is strict but fair.
The only thing I can say to help you is to keep mentioning her to your manager...what the manager says goes, so I suppose that's all there is. Or you can intimidate her more into doing things right, but that's kinda risky.

It sounds to me like management is the source of these problems. putting you in the middle to avoid confrontation. do your job, and nothing more.
speaking as someone with a strong work ethic, it is hard, but start doing the same quality of work as the rest. when you clock out, leave. shift is over, no more work. if you must stay to do more work, don't clock out. if you can't do that, try setting up the worst offenders to get caught screwing around by the boss. maybe if one or two are made an example of, the rest will straighten up. most people are lazy and stupid. like children, they will do as much or as little as they can get away with.

You can do some things others can't(and will be asked to do so); get over it.

Nothing about gender but my last job was all about favouritism the bosses most loved employee never did much just stood around, but the second just did as much work as you would expect from any one else, third most loved was reliable and hard working, forth most loved never did any thing but joke around, then their was me I pretty much did all the work people avoided mostly because I was the new guy, I think. I got laid of eventually but was my first time to see favouritism in the work place kind of pisses me off I eventually realized I was laid off just because the boss didn't like me.

Or you can intimidate her more into doing things right, but that's kinda risky.I'm not that kind of person, Sebastian. In fact, the co-worker being used in the example for this post tried telling our manager that I was intimidating her, at which the backwards thinking older gentleman made it his duty as gentleman and manager to set the course straight. I know women aren't hapless sheep when it comes to working. Yet, my co-worker giving me this, "It isn't my problem" bullshit when she walks in late, and construing the negative but acceptable reaction I had to that nonsense as intimidation, well, it makes my sick to my stomach.
By the way, I was half-asleep when I wrote the original thread post. If it makes no sense when I have time to reread it tomorrow morning, then I shall edit the post to get my point/question across easier. Have a good night, everyone.

Spoiler:
Doesn't your manager insinuating you are intimidating just because you are tall sound like...discrimination to anyone...? I smell a lawsuit ; )
Anywho, I work in a company that is ridiculously top-heavy as far as management, but I'd venture to say it has a good mix of male and female, with the two highest up I have visibility to being female. I don't think gender is an issue at my place, but I kind of see race coming into play at times. A lot of the departments seem divided by what race you are, and it's definitely majority Caucasian in a position of upper management. Can't say if it's intentional or not, but from the advancement experiences of some of my co-workers, it looks a little curious.

Spoiler:
Just from reading this, it appears the main grievance you have with your work is about having a stricter workload than other co-workers; the trigger for your complaint was the obviously insulting actions of co-worker #1. If these are the cases I'll tell you what the manager has probably already said: go to manager and report if you experience any disgruntling actions performed by your co-workers or how things are run. A manager that apologizes to an employee should have sense enough to see if they can comply with your request.
Or you could take the passive-aggressive route and continue what you've been doing. When your co-worker slips immediately report it to management and "fluff" the details, but don't lie. I wouldn't recommend this approach since it takes too long.

Well the kind of half assed job I do doesn't really discriminate against gender, unless you go into having sex with students.
I have to ask you though? Are you Dutch? The title caught my interest. :3

Spoiler:
The 'it isn't my problem' bit would really make me angry tbh. It is her problem and she best lose her job if it carries on >:{

If you're forced to work overtime due to your co-workers tardiness then clock out 10 minutes overtime and tell your boss why, and let him discuss it with her.
Or, just stop bitching, it's not that big a deal.
