What do you call "Friends"?

I guess I am one of those who misuse the word friend. If someone asks me about someone I know, I feel cold saying "acquaintance", so I will usually say "friend", even if that person isn't close to me at all.
However, I have very high (too high?) standards of friendship and pretty much have a friendship level meter. I illustrate it using my left arm. People at my hand are people I barely know, and the further up my arm you are, the closer a friend you are to me, until you reach my heart (ok armpit, but it's just a rough visualization).
Not many people have made it to the heart though, since I am a 100%-committed type of friend, I give my everything, and can only let people there if I can trust them fully and know I will receive the same commitment to friendship in return.

A friend is about a person _giving_ you stuff without asking for something in return. The point is that a friend is someone who is willing to share what he has with you. Money is simply something quantifiable and concrete.

And the answer is yes. I have given and received money like that. How about you? How much have you sacrificed for a friend? How much have your "friends" sacrificed for you?
Ha ha ha! If friends were just about free stuff, then how's that different from stealing with flattery instead of force! I make friends for an entirely different reason.

i think everyone that i know and he/she know me too and we can chat easily each other,and not only from RL,people who i know from internet is my friends too~

friends are people who will give you a hard time, mocking you, reiterating embarassing stories you have heard at least 10 times, and yet after all that you still want to talk to them and hang out with them.

I think friends are people for whom you'll tolerate a lot, for whom you'd cover for, someone you could talk to about nearly anything, and someone that you are really comfortable being with

Few people I actually call friends. I would call people that are friends, are the ones that know me well enough and the couple I chill with on weekends and talk about vidya games.

Someone I hang out with often and have a good amount of trust with. I also have to enjoy their company. If someone doesn't meet all this criteria, they are demoted to "buddy" or "acquaintance".

Friends: People who I am comfortable with and can talk with no problem
Close Friends: Friends whom I know a lot about and in return knows a lot about me as well, we share jokes, fights, and many more together
True Friends: Close Friends that has been with me through the thick and thin of my life as I have theirs...the ones whom I willing to go the end of the World...these to me are rare

i like this definition, but i would like to amend the first definition to say that those people may betray you at any time, cause you never know when they're just a douchebag in disguise, which is what one of mine just turned out to be, a fucking backstabbing prick that just wants to get his dick sucked

I believe I consider someone my friend once I've gotten to know them enough and have established some kind of trust/bond with them.

I'm sorry this happen to you....I've had friends betray me as well some times, but as they were just "Friends" it didn't hurt much...but it did give me a harder lookout for friends...thanks for the advice
In any case if my True Friends does ever betray or backstab me, they'll me as something like this

I'm not sure to be honest, most of my friends are just dicks, I like them and they are fun to be around but underneath it all they are dicks, they probably see me one as well. Maybe this is an adult friendship...or I just need new friends.

i don't know how to put it.. But many friends i know tends to claiming me as his/her 'best friend'.. Sometime i got confused by that term cause each person have a different perspective of valuing friends.. (probably cause i got into variously distinct circle of friend)
