Hello everyone.
I am going back to class tomorrow, and I have always had a problem with studying and actually trying to stay in one place and read. I want to maximize my learning so, can you guys give me some tips on how to study?
What do you do to study effectively?

I do my best studying when all of my friends are asleep.
I take up a whole table and lay out all of my materials. Then I pop in some headphones and jam for the next few hours.

Attend all classes. And then refer back to the notes you got from the classes to keep your mind fresh. Rinse and repeat until exam time.

Find a comfortable, quiet place to study. That includes, aside from solitude of course, a proper desk and chair, good lighting (natural or electric), your books, notes and other materials organized for quick access, no TV or at least don't turn on.
As far as distractions go, as I've mentioned, no TV, if you need a laptop do not give into temptation of «just checking this for a second», turn off your cellphone and, if you get tend to get interrupted, maybe let your friends know beforehand that you'll be studying. While you study, it is a good idea to take little 5-10 minute breaks every hour or so, provided that you don't get distracted and end up procrastinating the rest of the day.
Lastly, and probably the toughest to achieve, healthy physical condition and focused state of mind. By the former I'm not saying you should set yourself up to live to 150 but to concentrate it certainly helps to work out regularly or at least during the time you need to study more. Jogging, swimming, yoga, pilates, skydiving, whatever. While you are studying it also helps to have a drink, an energy drink perhaps. I wouldn't recommend tea, at least not while you're studying, nor would I recommend snacks. A focused state of mind comes from, I find, a combination of exercise, as I mentioned, and whatever floats your boat really. For me, it would be literature and music.

I actually read a study on this, changing where you study actually allows you to absorb more information.

STUDY! STUDY! STUDY! And good luck

I always spend more than 6 hours in the library everyday to study with my friends.
Although I said "library", that doesn't mean total silence or such. At least we could still laugh together without getting shouted at.
It's fun to study with friends, but if you need to concentrate, then close your facebook, headphone on with music, and focus on the papers in front of you.
Mostly that's what I do.

Aside from lights and calculators, nothing electronic should be within reach, audible, or on and in the same room with you. For problem solving classes (sciences) just do problems until you run out or can't think straight anymore. For memorizing classes (everything else) rewrite and say out loud what you need to memorize until your hand goes numb.

Even if it sounds wierd, it helps me to have music and my computer.
I'm always studying on my desk so I always have my computer right in front of me playing some music. Somehow it helps me to remember things afterwards, 'cause I always relate things, even if it's a part of a song and physics.
I can't stay focused very long (alone) 'cause I rapidly get pissed just by sitting there and writing stuff out of the books to write other stuff better without the books so it really helps me to take a 1-2min break every ~30min viewing some cat pics or whatever in the web. Most people would say that you can't concentrate like that and bla bla but for me it's really the best way to stay easy while studying for hours.
What I want so say is, try!
If you can't study concentrated in a silent room, don't do it, I think it's totally unimportant if you're starring at the wall or at your monitor, both will not help you but maybe one of them will help you to keep up your motivation a little bit.
Of course this assumes that you're able to get off your computer after a short break and continue doing what you should.

Alright this is what I did in college.
1. Sticky notes are freaking awesome. Place them all over your book where there are complicated terms and write them in a way you can easily understand.
2. If you got pals in the same class study with them as much as you can. Even if they aren't in the same class if they know the subject it can help to get a friend's perspective at times.
3. Manage your time. Make sure you are using every minute you have in a day. Get homework in the class before a easy ass class? Do that homework in the easy class and eliminate some of that work load. Then you have more time for games and sleeping.
Hope this helps you out man. Good Luck!

Sleep, regular studying with a metronome set to 60 per min as it syncs with your heartbeat and something to cool down if you're tense while studying or about to do a test... In these situations I recommend a fap :D

Take breaks after long sessions of studying. I can't read or do anything when I'm burnt out. If you have cravings while studying bring small snacks like celery or gum to keep your mind off food for a bit, helps me a lot.

Step 1: Speed reading
When you read your mind only comprehends certain parts of it, I mean how often is it that you can read a paragraph and then relay the whole thing?
Basically what you do is read quickly, using your finger as a guide and go at a speed where you can take in enough information to get the main point and highlight keywords
Step 2: Memorise keywords and link them together, it's easy to remember a word and it's meaning, but when you need to remember a lot you will need a trick.
First off, you need to SEE the word, so it helps to write it down, then think about what it looks like, maybe even draw it or an example of it, say the word was cat, I think of a big fat black cat waddling around, or if the word was conformity, I think of 100 sheep all in the same uniform, uniforms and sheep = conform
Next you need to link the words together, just try to make a psychedelic story with all the random crap you have.
E.G.
Cat
Mausoleum
Nachos
Whales
Nitrogen
Feet
Ball point pen
Dentil Floss
Some guy
Bag
Koolaid
Eyelashes
Chicken
Urine
Coconut
Vodka
I remember all these words in order, even though it is the most random crap.
All I did was make a stupid story;
A fat black cat waddles into a mausoleum and starts munging on some nachos, on the nachos are little pictures of whales, the whales are shitting out nitrogen that is coming to rest on the feet of someone lying on the beech, the feet are stabbed with ball point pens and out the other end of the pen is dental floss, the dental floss is leading into some guys teeth, who is wearing a big pink bag full of Koolaid, the guy drops his bag and the Koolaid come crashing down on some eyelashes, suddenly a chicken comes and starts pecking away at the Koolaid while it urinates into a coconut that is being held by a drunk Russian bottle of vodka
It's all about visualising the word, after all it is a lot easier to remember some crazy going-ons then it is to remember a bunch of words

Keep telling yourself that you're gonna study only for 15 minutes, you usually end up studying for at least 1 hour. Take a break, and restart.
