I loved Gold version, because it had all the old nostalgia, but the gameplay was MUCH more refined, and it added in my favorite type, Steel. B/W is probably my second favorite gen, followed by 1, then 3, then 4 as the lowest. the only reason i like 5 so much is because the story actually meant something, great interactivity with the Infrared stuff (because in all previous gens, it always felt formal and time-consuming), and the fact that Excadrill kills EVERYTHING. I have to admit though, the art design on 75% of the new 'mons, and the naming is just horrendous. (Case in point, Trubbish, Trash + Rubbish = Trubbish......)

I actually just tried playing Pokemon for the first time a few days ago using an emulator on my laptop. :3
I've been playing Leaf Green.

I have played all five generations and I personally like Black & White the most. Firstly, they made TMs infinite use so you don't have to worry about who you teach rare ones too. Second, I liked the new pokemon introduced. I know some people thought some of them were stupid or rehashes, but I just had to chuckle a little bit at some of the more out there inspirations (i.e. trash, ice cream cone). Also [size=20]NO. FUCKING. ZUBATS.[/h] Plus they have actual, fucking awesome, cutscenes.

Gold/Silver cause that's when they made more Pokemon and they weren't that over the top ridiculous. I mean we have a bag pokemon now in Black. :S

But with that sad, I'm still a sap for Pokemon and I bought the Black.

Gold and Silver were amazing games, allowing you to go to both Kanto and Johto. (Something no other version but HG and SS has allowed XD)
But Black and White has really brought the games back up a notch after the disappointment which was Diamond and Pearl for me :)

The show showed Ho'oh and i always wanted to know what it was on Ep1.
Plus the movie with Lugia shoulda been the end of the series

tswarthog The Iconoclast
I played some pokemon on my friends portables but never actually purchased a game for myself.

I have never been a fan of handhelds and never will be.

I'd rate the gens 4th, 2nd, 5th, 1st, and 3rd. Diamond pulled more hours out of me than any other game I've ever played(210 hours!).

I loved ruby and sapphire the most since it's the very first pokemon game I played.

Never owned a Gameboy color... Instead I got a pocket bomb called GAMEGEAR.

I'm with majority, I loved (and still do) red and blue. These were some of the first games I ever played. Oldschool style of looking for three hours to find a Gameboy (original) just to play these only adds to the fun.

i like gold but never beat it because i am a horrable trainer and would go all the way with my starting pokemon and if he whent down i lost every time and i liked it because i could play it on the old game boy that was in black and white

My favorite game is Silver Version, but I keep my Diamond version as memento of my dead friend.

Ya know .. I've played all the pokemons since the origional red on the Old brick gameboy. ^_^
And while i do like some of the new pokemon .. specifically from the diamon/pearl/platinum versions ... When i replay .. I still find myself going back to my old standbys on the red/blue versions ... Gold and silver (crystal) were by far the worst gens.
Sucky starters make for sucky games. ^_^ lol

I do like how the new white and black versions are self contained (until after the battle with elite 4 and such .. ) You don't even see a old gen pokemon until then. ^_^ it's kinda awesome and sucks at the same time ... though i will admit .. it made me feel like i was playing red for the first time again.

Pokemon Yellow and Pokemon Crystal were my favorites.. but they're not up there :(.

I started with Red/Green but Silver is my most fav. gen...mostly because Scizor was introduced in the 2nd gen. though Gen 1 and 2 really felt the same as the design of pokemon and story telling felt very similar.

it goes Silver/Gold, Red/Green, Ruby/Saphire, Black/White, and last is Diamond/Pearl
