What is your favorite herb or spice?

I'm okay with most spices, as long as they don't ridiculously change the flavor of the food in a bad way.

Dang, this question is too big, as well.
I'm a spice lover, so it's hard for me to pick any one in particular. Some days I feel just like salt and pepper, other days something more exotic, and some days all at once.

Does Hondashi(fish) powder count as a spice?
My guess is no, but it's what I usually put in my cookings. It makes anything taste like Japanese. Literally.

Jerk. Some places call it Jamaican Jerk, but I think that is just a variety. I also know a homemade version of Cajun seasoning which is a combination of spices. It isn't a spice in itself though, so I'll stick with Jerk.

Well my favourite herbs/spices would be basil, oregano, garlic and cumin. I Use at least 1 of them in anything I cook.

It really depends on what meal I'm having when I cook tbh. For example, whilst I may like garlic with chicken dishs, I absolutely loath garlic near my lamb.
However, seeing as you asked, I'll provide some answers.
As a general rule, spices aren't my cup of tea. In cooking - apart from the basic salt and pepper - I've always preferred herbs with a softer, delicate flavour i.e. rosemary. That way they don't dominate the meal - unlike oregano...just a horrible herb.
I don't mind the occasional parsley garnish either, but more often than not I'll leave any garnish. My favourite herb to eat on it's own - that's right straight-from-the-plant pick-and-eat - is mint. Lovely and refreshing!
In terms of smell and appearance, Lavender wins hands down.Great way to make a room smell nice. However, despite the majority opinion on the matter, I hate lemon-grass. Too overpowering in my opinion.
