My first mistake is that I never got an Anti-Virus program ...
And it was a living nightmare ...
After that I'm scared for life by Computer Virus ...
It took me about 3 years before I realized how important it is to regularly maintain my computer ...

I pissed off a guy who I didn't know was a hacker, and he made my computer life a living hell for about a week.

Accidentally downloading a trojan and actually letting it ''evaluate my computer for security problems''. Luckily I was able to restore it.

I accidentally downloaded a simple virus, it was just a script that turned the computer off, but it puts itself in the startup folder.

This happened back in the early 2ks, but somehow I was using the first Desktop we owned (we had upgraded and I kept the old one running Windows '95 for the games, Descent is an awesome game) annnnd Windows vanished. I had no internet (it was dial-up back then) and had only used software from legitimate companies. Turned it on, the desktop background came up and then about fifteen minutes later a message popped up: Windows cannot find windows.exe. Would you like to search for it?
...Yeah. To this day I have no idea what happened. On a "brighter" note, a week before Xmas a few years later I bought and installed a Sonic & Knuckles collection form Half Price Books onto that same machine. It started stuttering a bit with those games and others, so I gave it a ... love tap. Worked fine for a week aaannnnd then went FUBAR. And that Sonic & Knuckles stuff wouldn't run on our new Windows XP (or was it Windows ME?); it would only open in windowed mode and at stupidly fast speeds. :(
