Which Smartphone is better?
Which is better?

I'm not very knowledgeable about Smartphones and this is gonna be my first one. I plan on getting an iTouch in a month or so, So web stuff doesn't matter. I've narrowed my choices down to the HTC Touch Pro 2, Motorola Defy, and the LG Optimus T. Thanks in advance and any advice is welcomed.
EDIT: Realized that web does matter since thats the point of a smartphone. So web does matter lol.

Because I'm tired of my shitty slider phone lol. You got a point. The point of a smartphone is the web stuff so I guess it does matter.

Get this:
That will last you quite a while till 4/5/6/7G with super-hyper-power-max-interweb speeds come out.

I have a few smart phones before.
Android (which I am using now, HTC desire)
windows mobile 6.1 (sony xperia x1)
my conclusion is that android is a lot more fun in terms of apps, customization and also the overall polishing feel to it.
however, windows mobile does have one big advantage which is allowing you to use word, excel and powerpoint while for android, you would need to buy an app to do word processing.
anyhow, I prefer android and HTC
Forgot to say, remember to check out the spec for the phones. Desires have a 1Ghz and I would say it is one of the best cpu for mobile out there, able to run any app on the market well, even the playstation emulator

I would go with HTC (but that's me). All of the experiences with LG phones I've had have been horrible, don't bother with LG (again, my opinion, feel free to ignore me).
Motorola tend to make pretty good phones, though I haven't at their android phones yet though I've been meaning to.
But in terms of power, you can't go wrong with HTC or Samsung, Samsung have their galaxy s which is supposed to have the best cpu in a smartphone to date and a nice hefty 512MB RAM. And HTC have their desire (1GHz) and desire hd (1GHz but still a faster model than the desire, plus it has 768MB of RAM, 200 more than the desire if I remember correctly). They also have a cheaper model called Wildfire which is fairly new, and while it has only a 500MHz cpu, it's a good phone if you just want a good android phone with all the features but the specs don't really matter to you.

Ok I can probably only get those phones. I probably should have mention this but I'm only willing to pay $50 for it (I'm upgrading and i get a $50 maill in rebate and I might do equipment installment plans.). They have some black berrys i can get but i dont like them for some odd reason. Also the company is t-mobile. Lets see. The list of phones that i can get are.
The T-Mobile comet has a 528MHz Processor seems a bit small. and i have huge hands.
The Motorola Defy has a 800MHz TI OMAP3610 core.....Idk what that means lol
The LG Optimus T has 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7627 with Adreno 200 graphics, 512MB of memory, WiFi b / g, Bluetooth 2.1, AGPS(im getting this info from endgaget btw.) I know the Ram sounds decent but thats about it.
Last but not least the HTC Touch Pro 2 has Idk. I cant find any specific info on its specs. I'm leaning towards the motorola defy. Since it has android. I'd rather get the htc hd2 but for some reason I can't upgrade to it.

In the end it depends on what you use your phone for.
So what mainly do you use it for; calling, texting, surfing the web, playing games?

You don't have to be an iPhone hater to want an android phone (though I admit I pretty much despise all things apple, the ipod is the only thing they've done right, and even then they screwed up with the whole jailbreak argument [vive la open source!!])
And yes, the Nexus S is awesome, even though I haven't looked at it yet. It is designed by Google, and therefore must be god-like. ^_^

All of those plus i'd like to have apps. And I'm limiting myself to those 3 choices because thats the only one I can upgrade to. Plus I'm getting an iTouch so I would be getting all the things an iPhone has

Bah, iPod touch's aren't that good, I have one myself and you could do the same stuff on an android, if not more. But of course it's easier to manage your music through an iPod if you use iTunes, not sure if android have a good equivalent yet.
And if you're limited to those three, I'd recommend the HTC just because they're making the best quality android phones at the moment.
But of course these are my opinions, feel free to ignore them.

I was gonna get the HTC but from what I looked up. That htc isn't an android

Oh, it isn't?
Sorry, didn't realise it wasn't android as default, though apparently you can install android on it. Well, if you get the HTC, try it out and if you want why not install android and give it a go? You could probably get it restored back to the factory OS if you don't like it.
Anyways, enough of my blatant fanboyness towards android, have a look at some reviews and maybe some youtube vids of the phones in question and base your decision on what you think you would prefer.

Wait you can install android on it? Sounds like I'm going to get the HTC then lol. I'm probably going to get it either today or tomm. Depends when my check comes in.
Just to ask ahead of time. How do I install android onto the phone?

Depends on if you get the CDMA version or the GSM version. Which one are you planning on getting?
edit: here's a link with a video showing it, and some links to the pages where the makers of the port have posted it and have instructions on how to install it, by the looks of it I'd say it just installs like an app and boots up linux and android when the app is started (so the original OS is still there, just gotta turn the phone off and on to get back to it)

Just on a side note: I love that the term "hack" is actually being used correctly in terms of the url, instead of referring to bloody crackers and their activities.

I just looked up what all that meant and I'm going to get GSM since that's all that T-mobile has since it uses sim cards. At first I thought I wouldn't be able to use my camera and my BT at all. But now that I can see that I can switch back. Its all good now. Hopefully it will work

if you want to have more fun with your smart phone, go to xda forum, but be warned, you will get addicted to smartphones
