Concerning God, I don't think He/She/It would be the most famous entity because while just about everyone in the world knows about "God," there is a lot of diversity. The God in America isn't the same God as in China. Hell, depending on how people argue it, the God of Christianity isn't the same God of Judaism (though, technically, they are).

I'm not sure if anyone has actually argued that The Beatles were more popular than Jesus. There was a big commotion when the Beatles were very popular because John Lennon said that the way things were going, the band would end up bigger than Jesus. A lot of people took it out of context and said the Beatles were being sacrilegious, but Lennon actually meant it as a bad thing, sort of a negative reaction to the intense popularity of the band.
