Why do anime fangirls prefer girly men?
0
I've searched the forums for a similar topic but I couldn't find one, so I guess i'll just ask the question.
Why do most anime fangirls prefer bishounen to men that look, well, manly?
Seriously, it's really starting to get on my nerves when I look for a decent romance manga (I can't help it I'm a sucker for love ;D)and the men all look slender and dazzling. As a woman myself, I can't understand it at all.
It's incredibly difficult to find a good manga with a guy that looks like a guy. Seriously if I wanted to read some shoujo-ai or yuri, then i'll look for it; but I searched for a manga that had romance between a man and a woman but I just found millions of manga with gender confused men.
There must be a reason why girls like pretty guys rather than handsome guys. :(
I'm determined to find out why!

Perhaps they are influenced by the manga they read. perhaps the men look that way because the artist only cared to learn to draw women, so even the men turn out femme.

Related to the topic that Shaggy linked to, it's that practically all manga is drawn from Japanese folks, and their perception of human attraction differs some from our own.
But yeah- pretty boys annoy the shit out of me, too. Especially their dominance in the entertainment industry as the primary heartthrobs.
Buncha floppy-haired pansies.

My guess would be that those type of men are more "in-tuned" with their feminine side, and for some reason that gets women crazy about them. And as such, they know how to please women more, and worry about themselves less. I can't stand pretty boys either, especially Justin Beiber.

Because the male leads from shoujo mangas are either actors or boy idols of some sort. That would not be applicable if the male lead looked like Kenshiro or Jojo or Momo... Kenshiro in an AU highschool setting... My headesplode.

I think in anime it's more narrow on the options of body build, for both male and female characters. Though with females you at least have variety in the chest size ;p
I don't like really bulky men either, I prefer broad shoulders strong chest/back type of guys - but I don't want Goku arms and pectoral muscles.

But back to the point. I dont like girly guys either. Nor do I like masculine ones. I prefer guys with normal body. Broad shoulders is a bonus. And I dont really care if a guy is thin, a little bit fit (very small abs visible, no more than that please) or a bit chubby.

I think its more-so Asians prefer more feminine men. Most of the girls I know who watch anime like tougher men. But who knows.

If I recall correctly, there was an article that said it could be because of birth control pills. Birth control pills make the woman think they're pregnant, and when a woman is expecting a child or whatnot, they stop wanting to have sex with a man's man, and prefer men who seem likely to help around the house, ie, girly men.

It is more along the lines of the same reason why hentai or doujinshi are sometimes more preferred than actual porn, because it gives an unrealistic perspective on reality in that what people want to be perfect or different is totally possible and likely to occur. So for anime and manga if you want a 21-year-old loli with kitty ears and an adorable voice that calls you *oniichyan* YOU GOT IT! If you want a dazzling perfect emotional yet stern faced bishounen that makes a sexy pose in the rain THEY WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN! Or if you want a long haired puppy carrying bishoujo getting tentacle raped......chances are there are about ten thousand vids of that on the net already.

Just preferences. American comics are filled with the western ideal. People that love reading manga mostly find american comic characters unappealing in terms of proportions. Androgyny has its appeal, its magnetism. Besides...people don't read comics for its life like illustrations, everything is exaggerated in some aspect. Things either tip one way or the other.
It's also possible that the particular physique is associated with high status in east asian cultures. Luxury goods at the highest price range are usually slim, sleek and highly refined...with a hint of androgyny.

Quite honestly, because the ruff and gruff is too easy to get, but not all may have the same opinion. So why would they want the ruff and gruff over the smooth perfectionist that can do the ruff and gruff but still look great doing it? Besides this an example and as I stated before anime is also a way for people to see unrealistic phantasies

Well, that's exactly it; differing opinions.
Because the flip side of that same argument is why would anyone go for the girly-looking prettyboy, who look like they probably spend hours in front of a mirror spraying themselves with axe and gelling their hair- when there are men around?
Level of competence is irrelevant to this discussion, since the OP is wondering why girls prefer the prettyboy look.
Orlando Bloom as opposed to- uh... I- can't think of any celebrity of comparable age range, which would make it a l'il unfair...
Lessay Bruce Willis back when he did the first Die Hard.

The reason for preference has been explained, it was asked why if they do prefer them and that was answered. You cannot compare fictional anime bishounen with rl males simply because if the fan girl does want the other type it is simply just that A WANT. I never stated that that was the end all be all choice heck I am surprised you looked over the loli and decided to gun about the bishounen, now why you are attempting to make an argument (or appearing to do so)over an example is purely a waste of time, if the rough and tough is your choice good for you, I don't care the question is not *Is the one type of guy preferred over the other type*it is *Why do (or would) anime fangirls prefer girly men*

Shy, young girls that are unsure of themselves want to be around someone familiar i.e. girly.
No, but really I have no idea. Some of them look nice if they have some good masculine physical features, but if they act girly that's a huge turn-off for me.

Spoiler:
Heh. There's a difference between arguing and discussion- and I am not arguing.
The reason for preference has hardly been explained. All you said was that- due to being fictional- that we could craft whatever ideal we wish.
But the question is why is the sparkly bishounen that preferred ideal to most fangirls?
And- as stated by the OP- she is asking about the girly men specifically- so lolis and whatever else are to be discussed somewhere else for another time.

They are used as an example, as I can see you failed to grasp the entire point of my first explanation which was that the reason that bishounen that are liked strongly by fangirls, that do prefer that, is because they are the ideal personification of what they want: a guy that can sympathize and show empathy, through words and actions, towards the females thoughts while also having the appearance that is most preferred. The point of saying that they are ideal is to say that the character fits most accurately to what the fangirl wants, to ask why a fangirl would want bishounen over the other option is that the bishounen genre was created more in mind to the ideal description of a select group rather than every female thus it is the selected group that is satisfied and not every single person of that gender. Is that thorough enough for you?

Spoiler:
Haha.
Yes. Too thorough, even- overcomplicating one aspect of the question without regards to the core question itself.

It's about looks. Only looks. Nothing else.
You have the personality aspect of it down pat.
But why do the fangirls prefer that look? The deep eyes? The fabulous hair? The tall, slender build? Those delicate lips? The pointed chin? Smooth, hairless skin?
That's what she would like to know.
And again- calm down. I'm not aiming to provoke you, as you seem to think- just to hear your thoughts.
