Why do people hate A7X?

I am not a fan or hater of the band. They get a lot of disapproval though, anyone can explain why?

Well, according to my friend, when they first started out, they sounded WAY different than how they sound now. Apparently, the vocalist jacked up his vocal cords and can only do his current vocals. That might exlain why some people might hate them. The other, more biassed reason, is that they sound like every other alternative rock/hard rock band out there.

First two albums were like screamo-ish shit. In my opinion anyway. Haven't listened to the new one and don't plan to, but the two before that sounded way different indeed. Those were better to me though since those were the ones that made me listen to them. Then your second reason came in and took hold. I just got sick of listening to them and rock in general. Most of it does sound the same. Plus the fanbase is shit. Including my ever so annoying younger brother.
I'm sure everyone has their reasons. It's not like there is one solid reason why everyone hates them, but there are obviously better bands out there.

^^ If you are looking for a band that sounds the same try nickelback >_>...

I'm with the "they sounded WAY better before" crowd on this one. Because they have indeed changed a lot from when they started out. Even so I wouldn't say that I hate their later songs, but they changed for the worse.
lolwut? They're barely similar, even if Nickelback also does decent music.

I was referring to nickelback as a one dimensional band. Simplistic power chords over and over again. They just sound the same as any other modern day "hard rock" band. The only song that is NEAR passable is Burn it to the Ground. But I decided a few weeks ago not to bite someones head off if they like something different than I. If I did that it would just make me seem that I think the music I listen to is better than the next man's, which is far from the truth.

Except that the complexity of Ax7's songs are being compared to Opeth's and Dream Theater's, there's a reason Mike Portnoy took the Rev's place for the time being. But yeah, I've heard they also mostly play simplistic power-chords over and over again, and are not all famous because of their progressive style.
If you're going to criticize a band, at least don't pull shit out of your ass and hope it fits.
But well yeah, Nickleback is kinda one-dimensional, decent music however, not everything has to be pretentious and complex to be good.

Because for many people, extramusical factors have more influence over whether a band is considered to be "good" or "authentic" than the content of the music. For many people, the music they listen to is an important part of their identity. They may belong to a related subculture. If a band that these people identify with then garners more mainstream appeal, as A7X did(for example, being on GH2), people from outside the subculture begin to listen to the band. Following the idea of one's musical taste as part of one's identity, the people from the original subculture are now sharing part of their identity with people who listen to mainstream music. The members of the subculture may not like this and see it as something that weakens the distinctness of their subcultural identity. Thus, they choose to eject the portion of music that has been embraced by the mainstream from the subculture. This leads to statements like "A7X used to be good back when they started but now they suck" or "Green Day totally sold out with American Idiot, I liked them back when they did Dukie" which serve to expel that music which has been embraced by the mainstream from one's musical taste and thus from one's identity.
This also applies to Green Day pre and post-American Idiot.

Ouch, don't bite my head off just stating my opinion. Hell in fact you may have been listening to rock longer than I have (for me its 2 years and I wish I would've started earlier). No, I don't think that complexity and pretentiousness is the key to being a good and/or passable band, if that was the case I would like Dragonforce (not saying their bad). I like the Strokes and the Foo Fighters seem decent and aren't they considered alternative rock (which from what I hear sounds simplistic, sorry for being a noob if I am wrong)?

Basically, A7X started out with an AMAZING and heavy sound. I'm pretty sure M. Shadow's voice took quite a toll from all the screaming he had done in the beginning of their career.
Gradually, their sound began to change during the City of Evil CD.
And now, they have completely changed to a more mainstream rock band sound.
Especially the fact that The Rev passed away a couple years ago...it just isn't the same.
A7X used to be my favorite band.
I even planned to get the Deathbat tattooed on my ankle.
Now, I barely ever listen to them. But Waking the Fallen is still one of my favorite CDs.

Their first two albums sucked. Metalcore is clearly the worst genre ever. City of Evil on the other hand was fucking awesome. They should revisit that awesome style. We don't have many bands these days that play straight up traditional metal these days.
Their new stuff is way better than anything they wrote in their first two albums.

Kind of Important
A ray of Tsunlight.
I don't dislike the band per se, although I barely listen to them. It's the majority of the 'fans' I seem to run into. Sorta like the Slipknot crowd, who thinks that their particular band is the hardest most bad-ass motherfuckers to walk the planet. And if you try to disagree at all they flip their shit.
So I guess I don't like the band by association of the fans I always meet...

That's stupid. Don't let stupid fans dictate the music you listen to.
If I did that, I wouldn't listen to half the stuff I do. It's obvious you haven't met a hardcore Slayer fan. Now those guys are annoying as hell. Still won't stop me from listening to the great music.
