Which Instant Messenger do you use?

Goodbye, Windows Live Messenger. As the BBC notes, Microsoft will soon be retiring its instant message chat tool and will instead be encouraging users to use Skype.
"Skype and Messenger are coming together," wrote Tony Bates, President of the Skype Division at Microsoft, on Tuesday. "We will retire Messenger in all countries worldwide in the first quarter of 2013 (with the exception of mainland China where Messenger will continue to be available)."

I've used MSN messenger since the 90s', it's kind of sad to see it go away.

Lol, this oughta convince some of those stubborn ones to switch to Skype, though having started with MSN Messenger, it will be sad to see it finally go.
I just hope that, with this push, Skype improves a lot more. It's still pretty buggy at times.

Well damn, I didn't use MSN Messenger for months now since most of the people I knew already deserted it. May it rest in peace soon.

Oh well. I just use Steam and Skype for messaging, so I don't really care. I stopped using Messenger after it refused to let me download it when I got my laptop.

I have never used anything for messaging except email, skype, and xfire. Even then, I never talk to anyone.

I voted skype, since I have it on my pc, I just never use it. (Though I guess I can say facebook too by that logic).

There goes the only one I really use these days... I wonder what I'll do after that.

I still use it now. Guess I'll have to go full time Skype when this happens then with the people I talk to on MSN.
I'm still never going on Facebook.

I heard that today. Kind of makes me sad, I've had a LOT of fantastic conversations over Windows Messenger. Although I have recently converted to Skype it still makes me a little sad to see MSN go.

Hmm... A bit of research shows that Skype has fixed the one problem that made me stop using it when it first came out, so I guess moving there after messenger dies should be OK.

I hate Skype with a passion, as its user interface is intentionally obscure as far as user agency goes, aiming for the same "Big Brother" approach as FB.
I also hate it, because the platform has become ever more closed and opaque as far as its code and interoperability goes.
MSN was bad enough, though it was always reverse engineered in time, allowing me to use Pidgin or another multi-format capable client to connect to it.

I'm sorry, but that's just plain wrong Tegumi. The Skype protocol always has been closed and there never was any 3rd party implementation of it. All Skype "plugins" out there require the actual Skype application to run in the background.
Imo is a *web based*, so what they do is they take my credentials and use it to run their own client on their server and forward all data to me on whatever device I use... this is simply unacceptable for anyone who cares about the security of their personal data. In one fell sweep, IMO could compromise *all* of my credentials they have if they ever screw up their security.
Oh, and in case there are some people who don't give a damn about whoring themselves to yet another corporate network: IMO has been having trouble with Skype calls as of late :p
