Windows Live/Msn Messenger to be scrapped by 2013
Which Instant Messenger do you use?

I have accounts on MSN (WLM) and Y!M, But I have fewer contacts on MSN since the people in my place usually uses Yahoo messenger rather than using Windows Live.
Now that my contacts in WLM don't use Windows Live Messenger anymore, I think it's okay for it to die since Skype and Facebook is already taking the lead in connecting people.
Yes, I know it's kinda sad, seeing your favorite program / app go (like Restaurant City on facebook, taken down by EA). But then, everything has its end. So does Windows Live Messenger.

Over here was a bit of drama about Skype because the government actually stated at some point that they're listening into random calls. Amazing people behind that software, though it's not particularly relevant to me. If it's about chatting alone I still don't understand why anyone would ever use anything other than IRC.

1. IRC looks complicated
2. IRC, I believe, uses machine code
3. IRC does not have too much smileys
4. I am 12 and what is IRC?

I only use skype these days. Haven't used MSN in years so this news is relatively meaningless to me. I did figure MSN would be around for years though.

Well. I have Fakku forums, email, irc, and text. I don't think I need a messenger anymore.

Goodbye, Windows Live Messenger. As the BBC notes, Microsoft will soon be retiring its instant message chat tool and will instead be encouraging users to use Skype.
"Skype and Messenger are coming together," wrote Tony Bates, President of the Skype Division at Microsoft, on Tuesday. "We will retire Messenger in all countries worldwide in the first quarter of 2013 (with the exception of mainland China where Messenger will continue to be available)."
That kind of motivates me to get back to MSN and use it before it's gone for good.

I use MSN more than I use anything else when it comes to instant messaging. In terms of easy use, i'll go with MSN over skype..

I'm a little sad to see MSN retire mostly because I've had a few good years with it. But it's long had its day: the ability to save emoticons for every letter of the alphabet was ridiculous, the service is overrun with spambots and many people I used to talk to on it either don't use WLM anymore or have gotten hacked by some nigerian and their e-mail address fated to be used as a spambot.
Nowadays I use Skype, Steam, Fagbook and WhatsApp to keep in contact with people. They seem to be all the rage at the moment and I'm just a slave to trends.

I stopped using MSN since 2007 and then began using skype which is better and you can't like put a sparkling giant "?" or any other emoticon for every fucking letter and word. And also because you can talk to ppl using your mic in a good quality.

I stopped using MSN a few years ago once I'd discovered skype. Although most of my IM chats are through steam or facebook, since most of my friends don't use skype which is frustrating...
