Woman Suffers Acid Attack
0
Article link
This past Monday, a woman got out of her car to walk to Starbucks. A random woman came up to her and said, "Hey, pretty girl, you want a drink of this?" When the woman declined the drink, the stranger threw the cup of liquid, filled with acid, at the woman's face. The woman has been deaf her entire life, and the only reason her eyes aren't scarred from the acid is because she was wearing sunglasses.
Maybe I'm just not kept up on current events, but apparently this kind of thing has happened numerous times. Some stranger just walking up to a woman and throwing acid on her face.
Relevant, but different story.
For the girls of FAKKU, does this scare you a little to think that you could just be walking outside on a normal day, and a stranger would throw acid on your face?

The World is a pretty fucked up place.
But you know what, both victims in the article had one thing in common. They didn't give up. Instead of letting the attack scar them for the rest of their lives, and hiding in their homes, they decided to have a positive outlook, and continue with their lives. If anything, the attackers life must have been so shitty, that they would go out of their way to ruin someone else's life.
In the 2nd article, those 2 got locked up for 10+ years. And during those 10 years, they will suffer quite a lot. When they get out, they will be shunned by the public. They will live the rest of their lives in regret over ruining someone's life.

I would probably go mad, try to kill the person that did that. At least try to sue him and throw him in prison. Or kill him, most probably :p.
I remember a story like that, it was on a bus and someone left on purpose a pierced bottle of hydrochloric acid above the head of passengers (in the net where you're supposed to put baggages).

Oh, just realized that I'm a girl and didn't answer the question, lol.
For the girls of FAKKU, does this scare you a little to think that you could just be walking outside on a normal day, and a stranger would throw acid on your face?
Where I am, liberal-ville America, this is a highly uncommon occurrence, so no, I'm not afraid acid being thrown at me as I'm just walking on the street. If I were in Afghanistan, Pakistan, or other countries where this is a very common threat, I would be. But honestly this is just one more threat that we women have to go through just for being women. The threat of rape, harassment, sexual assault and battery are just some of the few things that we are taught to fear as women. According to RAINN, one in six women are sexually assaulted. One in six. That is a freaking high number.
Still, there's nothing you can do about it. We all take risks going out and about. We can get hit by a car. We can get taken hostage by a lunatic environmento-whacko. We can be raped or thrown acid on. It's just a matter of minimizing risk as we try to live our lives.
edit:
Attacker was a woman. :|
Women can be misogynistic too. And in the second article, the attacker was male. In any case, crimes like these are more often than not perpetrated by men.

Is it better? No gender here :3

Well if the fucking cum bucket had stayed in the kitchen where she should have been this never would have happened. Let this be a lesson to you all.

It is in certain countries--Cambodia, Bangladesh, and India come to mind, aside from the ones I mentioned above.

80% of the victims of acid attacks are women. If that's not gender targeted, I don't know what is.

Most acid attacks are revenge against women. Hence the misogyny part.

Looks like you read Wikipedia. However, with the exception of Islamic extremists and those living in the Taliban state of Afghanistan, most of these attacks seem to be revenge against woman, not women. I still say you jumped to the conclusion of misogyny much too quickly. For example, rape is a crime targeted mostly at women, but would you consider rape to be a misogynistic crime?

But you know what? Whatever. As Cholr says, it's a fucked up thing, no matter what the motives were. Fakku isn't the place for a feminist debate anyway.

Personally, I define 'misogyny' as unreasonable hate towards women because they female, and subsequent actions resulting from this principle. From what I know, most instances of rape are not committed with this mindset - rather it is one of revenge against a single entity, or an assertion of dominance and control. That is pointedly different from the definition of 'misogyny'.
