A completely desensitized youth.

So, in an age where the most disgusting, horrifyingly vile, or violent things are commonplace in media, entertainment, and especially the internet, Is this generation going to be completely desensitized to sex, violence, and other such things? I, personally, am completely deadened in my sensitivities towards these things, and I was wondering if this entire generation is the same, if it was mostly caused by the internet, and if it is a good or a bad thing in general.
Personally, I have no idea if it is a good or bad thing, but I do believe that the spread of information's availability has definitely propagated these desensitivities.
Edit: Links have been removed, so don't try and find them.

Really whoever is exposed to this stuff on a regular basis will be desensitized by it. I mean I was scarred by an anime where the a military group came in and killed everyone in the end when I was like 8. I see that stuff now and I'm like meh.
So, really if your exposed to this on a regular basis, it's nothing to you. Like how surgeons have to deal with blood and guts. Its the norm. The thing about the internet is nothing is censored (unless your in like China or something). We get access to information if we look for it. Most people don't look for dead bodies, mutilations, etc. So most people would be extremely sensitive to this stuff. Its just the generation of people online that look at this stuff that won't really give a fuck if it was suddenly displayed.
I think that being exposed to this stuff is a good thing as it sort of prepares us mentally for the worst. If something were to happen, an accident per say. We wouldn't be "OMG WHAT THE FUCK BLOOD!" and scream like chickens with our heads cut off. At least hopefully we won't. Instead we could act in a calmly manner and do whatever to help.
For one, I looked at dead bodies and mutaliations when I was 12 because I was naturally curious. Of course, it scared the shit out of me back then but I kept looking and looking (being curious and all that), eventually, it wasn't a shocker anymore.
Don't know about the sexual acts though. I guess it's just one's fetish? That stuff still makes me go "LOL WTF".
But I do agree, the spread of information through the internet has caused a lot of these de-sensitivities(sp?).

We're at a time when the few generations inbetween now and 1990's have a free reign over the media we watch now.
Probably the only few things that will never completely desensitize youth (in society anyway) is head-on violence and sudden war in the homeland, just to name a few extreme examples.
Knowing what can hurt you and what you watch is the difference now.

Seen some of the stuff beforehand, honestly, it all depends and falls down to how one takes it. If they're idiots then they will take it too far, if they got the right mindset, they'll just brush it off. Can you clarify this? I kinda feel what your getting at but its really hard to figure out and I would hate to guess wrong.
On topic: I suppose it could happen. If one is shown to enough horror and violence one could completely stop feeling anything at all when exposed to it. I doubt that this has happened to the entire generation, I for one am disgusted by images such as thous and can't stand to look at them.
However, over time I have become more accustomed to them. If I was shown some of these things 10 years ago I probably would have been sick on the spot.
There are people who do not feel anything when shown things like that but they are few and far between. But, it is most definitely a fact that more and more of these people are around today than say, 20 years ago. I highly doubt this could happen to a entire generation.

I had hoped to avoid seeing these things and yet after clicking the first link i was compelled to click the other two, but I find that they didn't bother me. Perhaps I should be worried by this....but I'm not because I remember rule 36 and no matter how desensitized you are to something rule 36 will eventually kick your ass

I highly doubt this could happen to a entire generation. Most people who consider themselves religious would freak out at any of those pictures. Non-religious people would not. Simply because of the mindset/lifestyle the two groups have. On topic; this is medium stuff. Most of the internet (and when I say internet I mean 4chan) would see this stuff and just move on without a second blink. The one thing that still gets more people riled up (myself included) than the images OP posted is animal cruelty.

well we had this debate before and our term for this was "generation kill".
i cant explain it that well so i'll be literal.
take a child and make the kid watch a single film that has depictions of intense violence in it, and sooner or later, he'll be okay with watching it.
take for example id software's DooM... it was one of the games that has demonic influences and the most notable was the gibbing. nowadays when we see gibbing in films or games, the kids dont look away in disgust at the cruel end of a body, instead they enjoy it... the fact that they just did overkill was a very pleasant experience

I know this is medium stuff for people who are desensitized already, but I put up the warning just in case some people would have a really bad reaction to something like that (I've seen it happen to one of my friends when I trolled them with the wall of pain, they legitimately threw up.) But I didn't want to put up some shitting dick nipples because that belongs on no forum but IB (Also, it's a given that 4chan users are not fazed by anything, especially /b/tards
PS: anon pwned that retard. I never knew 4chan had a heart.

I honestly don't think much of over the top violence or gore and I guess its based on preference but I consider cynical or realistic view points to be alot more serious than that.
Worded it a bit funny but I was watching over the top gore and looking at educational surgical videos since I was six years old and as I got older and moved on too different political view points, looking at human nature in general and /b in general I actually found some of this alot scarier.
Anyway I like to look at being desensitized as sort of like adapting even though there is a difference of watching videos on the Internet compared to actually being near the dead body in real life. When my dad had me skin animals when I was younger I just liked to think the animals were sleeping until I got used to it.

It's much, much easier to see things on a screen than to see things in real life. Seeing someone getting stabbed in a movie is very different than seeing someone getting stabbed in real life. Getting knowledge through the internet, knowing about the shameful and disgraceful acts of violence, rape and other twisted things is a whole other experience from being the third person to witness it in person.
Have I been desensitized nowadays? I'd say that I have. That doesn't mean there aren't things that I find atrocious, mind you.

That, sir, was entirely uncalled for, and I hope you now know what is appropriate and inappropriate.
