Can Religion and Science Mix?

I was wondering if you can mix religion with science, the universe was created by an entity that is greater than our by creating chaotic particle, antimatter and randomly make it unstable and the result is the big bang. After that he took a long time just to create our galaxy and earth. After that, god try to experiment chemical reaction and create the first organism, which later He try to let it evolve to make a spitting image of Himself. The 1st failure was the monkey, but he kept changing the DNA structure until he got an acceptable result which is the Homo-Sapien. After he left the human and Earth to strive, and continues with other project in another realm. He will only come again when the World is nearing. Jesus was the son of god, sent to tell human that he is out there and to give a massage that he is out there.
Well, the story is pretty far-fetch but i really got some though about it. The first chapter of Genesis is only a shorten version of it.
What do you people think about this?

Suggestion man. Change the word religion in the thread's name to bible/christianity to cancel future misunderstandings cuz there are other religions that could evenly apply to the theme, ay?

This was mostly base on Christianity the Old Testament (with exception on Jesus of cause), but the Old Testament is also use by the Jew and Muslim.
You can post other theory about your God or whatever, as Christianity is one of the biggest religion i use it as a based for my story.

Understood.
well then, for myself i can only quote a man by the name Laozi, a 6th century BC record-keeper at the Zhou Dynasty court, who is now attributed with authorship of a Chinese classic text "Dao De Jing". It has many translations so i'll just stick with the one i know:
"No need to try and find the source of it {reality} because it is one."

This is exactly why religion and science can't mix. Science requires evidence and testable hypotheses in order observe, obtain information, and eventually confirm the accuracy of the hypothesis. God doing this and that is not a testable claim. Actually, what you did there was take the findings of science and added God to it:
Time and Space came about due to the big bang God caused the big bang which made Time and Space.
Gravity formed the planets we see today God was fucking around and he decided to make giant spheres.
Evolution made organisms more complex and eventually homo-sapiens arose. God was too incompetent to make humans to begin with, so he made single celled organisms. They eventually evolved into monkeys and god decided "Fuck, I'm doing it wrong!" He shaves those monkeys, changes their shape a little and bam, homo-sapiens exist.

Science is based on truth. Things that can be proven.
Religion is base on a book written a LONG time ago (not all but most).
I am a man of science and myself can not deal with it being integrated with religion... Should not happen!!!

Religious fanatics will always find away.
There are things science cant explain so i guess you can use religion to fill in the holes. BUT religion shouldnt be buckled down by facts, and vise versa.
It all comes down to faith i guess. I mean i dont believe in organized religion since i think all you need is belief and you dont need other HUMAN's who SAY they are chosen by THEIR god. I mean theyre just people so they should say such outlandish things

In the beginning, there was "darkness."
Then, the "darkness" shed a "tear."
From that "tear," the brothers Sword and Shield were born.
Shield claimed it could defend against any attack.
Sword claimed it could slice through anything.
The brothers began a legendary battle.
At the end, both Sword and Shield shattered.
Sword became the sky, Shield became the earth, and the sparks from the battle became the stars.
As for the jewels, they fell to the ground and became the True Runes--The runes that all other runes were born from.

Konami's version of genesis... I find it just as believable as the scriptures I come by. No truth value.
Well, whatever. Rbz said it all, so no need to repeat I guess.

Science cannot answer a question to a metaphysical certainty.Don't you think the reason science has no answer for them is because there's no answer to be given out anyway? Positivism ftw.

Good point Rbz.... such as gravity and other things of that nature..

You don't get it.
Since you like gravity, lets use that. Do you think science will ever find out everything there is to know about gravity to the point where we can say "the way we describe gravity and how it functions is absolute truth"?
I never said science cannot know that what we call gravity exists.

My serious thoughts about this matter can be hurtful to religious people, Im trying to contain such thoughts.
However, wasnt that serious? I mean I read scientology is a legitimate religion, not sure on the extent of 'science' present but as the name suggests... em.
But alright, until people welcome open-mindedness it will never be, talking about practically I mean.
Religion can say the earth is the center of the universe or is carried on the back of a giant galactic turtle, science proves its not like that... how can such coexist? Unless you are willing to accept that what religion tells you is not 100% true and accurate? But is this allowed, isnt the word of god absolute...?
Its been said the crucifix image is wrong according to science, but the church refuse to change it to how it really is coz the inspirational effect would be lessened.
And for us to talk about this seriously, we cant jsut focus on christianity, we have to accept into the debate the other religions with serious followers. Its not just Christianity + science afterall right

Has nothing to do with actual science. Shit, have you heard of zenu?

RBZ, I probably got the wording wrong.
What i am trying to say is, you can mix them together if you are willing to accept that parts of your religion may not be true and these parts can be answered by science - you leaving your old/obsolete beliefs behind and accepting the new - leading to something that is closer to the truth.
What is not easy for people to do deal with is when the issues being challenged are parts of the foundation of the religion itself...
Heres something, if science proves christ is just a human - can you think of... some way where in christianity and religion can mix at that point?
Anyway, sorry for the Scientology thing.

VVV Alright

In the spirit of exploring other religions I just found out that there are more Jedi(Jediism) in new zealand than there are buddhists and hindus. I wonder how many there are around the world. Also it seems to be classified as one alongside Scientology, Satanism and believers in animal or human sacrifice. It could be as if a joke to some but there are people who actually believe this and is a religion to them.
I wonder if Jediism and Science can coexist.
Maybe where im getting at is, there are absolutely absurd religions out there (to me), that I dont think can be mixed with science. Theres a few who worship the sun, the moon or trees. Some think cows are divine. Some ... I mean some people even burn paper cars thinking theyll be sent to the afterlife with the dead, how can you insert science there?

The only difference between a religion and a cult is how widely accepted the belief is... >w> And yes, Christianity seems much more plausible. These people gather on Sunday and believe that they are drinking the blood of some spirit who is his own father, as well as some spooky ghost that possesses you to jump up and "speak in tongues" which is just incoherent babbling of the same few syllables. Sounds much more plausible than aliens... >w>
And on the actual question at hand, I am voting no on this. By their very natures, science and religion are opposites. Religion is belief in something you can't prove and science is about uncovering truths in the physical world.
I have recently been reading "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins and he makes some valid points as to why we should completely do away with religion and how religion somehow gets this undeserved level of respect for no apparent reason.
