Defining indecency

Aright, heres the issue:

I moved into this new house about 2 months ago. Around my house I like to be comfortable. which usually means I just walk around in my underwear and maybe a shirt(Its hot as hell here too, but I was doing this long before I moved here) if I feel like it. I dont bother my neighbors, or show off my body or anything like that, & to prevent there being any problems(And because Im lazy)I even wait until night to check my mailbox. Yesterday night however, I was dancing with my girlfriend in MY house in my underwear, when some a neighbor from across the street knocked on my door and told me that I have been overly indecent, and that I need to wear more clothes around the house. She went on to tell me that its not a good practice to check my mail at night and that taking my trash to the street the day before the trashmen come is also bad.
She was going to continue but I blew up on her. I wont give the exact details of my verbal thrashing but she left in tears.

Today my girlfriend told me that I was wrong for hurting her feelings and should apologize, which I refuse to do. I dont think any of what I do at my own house is any of my neighbors business, provided it doesnt affect them. And beyond that the only time should would have seen me in my underwear was the day I was dancing with my girlfriend, and thats just because I have one of those stupid glass doors that Im soon going to replace,and my girlfrind forgot to close the main door so to me unless she was spying through my windows or something she shouldnt have seen me more than once in my underwear.

anyways Im posting this to see what you all think. Was I wrong? What do you think of this?

I dont know if there are any laws about it, but imo if you want, you should be able to be butt naked at home if you want. As long as you're doing it because you want and not because like the idea of neighbors seeing you like that or just to piss people off.
Its possible that your neighbor is one of those annoying types who just check on their neighbors all the time and if they realize someone is doing anything they dont like, they start whining. But unless you're renting a house she owns, she cant tell you what to do in your house if you're not breaking the law. And when you go check your mail isnt her business either. But depending on what kind of mailbox you have (locked or not) there's a possibility that she said that because she was worried someone could steal your mail. Just a guess tho.
And taking your trash... I say ask the trashmen if its ok to take your trash out just day before they come. Just say your neighbor said its bad, so you want to check. If they say its ok, then its ok :)

But if she knows when you check your mail, when you take your trash out and that you're halfnaked in your house I think there's quite high possibility that she's just one of those people who feel the need to know what people do and whine about every small detail. If thats the case here, no need to apologize her imo. That will only give her the feeling she was right all along.

But all those are just my opinions.

You can dance in your underwear in your house as much as you want. But you shouldn't take out the trash or get your mail in underwear.

I don't think he does those things in his underwear. I think his neighbour's issue with it is that he doesn't do those things at the "right" time.

Does your neighbourhood have rules about when to take out the trash/check the mail? I sure hope not (I really, really hate HOA-type things), but if there is a rule then you have to follow it. If not, your neighbour is just being a nosy whiner.

If she left in tears, your reaction was probably a wee bit overboard, but not wholly unreasonable. If you were to apologise, apologise not for what you said--because I do believe that you are in the right in this case--but for the way you said it.

Well maybe you shouldn't yell at your neighbor, nut i agree with you, if you want to be naked in your house go for it.

Has long as the curtains are closed and your not in a kiddie pool naked eating a hotdog( insert simpson reference here) then fuck your neighbors and if they come back get naked and sit in the door way with a frozen chicken performing some weird chant like a voodoo priest.... also works on Mormons and the witness on a sunday morning.

I love those people, they send me pieces of paper with many signatures written on them. I can shred them and have confetti for my personal enjoyment.

Back to the point, I see no problems what-so-ever with leaving your trash out a day early or getting your mail late at night (though as stated above, it could just be a worry that your mail could be stolen). Now as to dancing around your house in your underwear (bear in mind, this is coming from someone who walks around the house half naked), some can see that as indecent exposure. Which is, I assure you, a bad thing. Now, a good idea would be to close the blinds/curtains (should you have them) enough so that the outside cannot see in. If that has been done, then there is nothing that others can complain about except the thought of you dancing half naked.

Now, personally, I think you should apologize to your neighbor. Granted, I was not there and have no idea how the conversation went, but it is the kind and neighborly thing to do. Your neighbor showed a great level of decency in coming to you about the problem and not simply reporting you to the Home Owners Association or at the next neighborhood block meeting (confetti people all of them).

HOA asswipes are asswipes.Oh and without even thinking of the morality of the issue ,which is total bullshit in her case for raging on you, what state/city do you live in? For the main part you could be protected by laws that allow nudity or atleast topfreedom(well your a guy so this shouldnt even matter. hell her coming over to your house is harassment and probably restricting your freedom). Anyways good luck living next to such a whore.

I dont take my trash to the street in my underwear but I have been known to check my mail in pajamas, and on ONE occasion Ive done it in a shirt and boxers.
IDK if the neighborhood has some rules about it no one greeted me when I moved in or bothered me with one of those neighborhood BS papers so I dont think so. And about the part of her leaving in tears, thats basically the EXACT same thing my girlfriend told me so it must be true on some levels. Thank you all for the opinions Im still trying to think of a way to apologize to her now without getting pissed off and raging back into the reason I had to apologize in the first place.

No offense- but from your OP, it presents you as a guy with a very short temper.

I did talk. Just very loudly, angrily, and scathingly.

Walking around in your undewear, in your own house, is definitely not a crime unless your city has some kind of code against it (you'd be surprised what cities come up with). Short of that though, there is nothing she can do because that doesn't constitute as public indecency. Stark naked though, it counts as such, which flabbergasts me.

I'll admit, in the summer, I like to be naked as much as possible, when my father isn't around that is. Sometimes I close my blinds and I'm naked. Woop-de-freakin-doo. Otherwise, I'm frequently running around the house in my boxers. Hell, my dad and I both do that. Then again, we don't have neighbors. Rather we have neighbors, who like us, stick to themselves and don't really associate with the rest of the neighborhood.

You have rights but you don't need to be rude to exercise them. Just sayin'.

You should apologize. You did nothing wrong, and you don't need to change your life style but that woman was just trying to help in her own way. If you don't feel like abiding by her suggestion then you should've just politely turned it down instead of going off on her. If anything, if she thinks you're indecent, be the larger individual by going up to her (in clothes) and apologize. If she still thinks you're indecent after that, then she'll just have to manage.

According to law (Don't remember any specifics for you to look up because this only came up in a class a year ago) you can be within your doorway almost/totally naked without any fines but i think a few feet outside your door it's considered indecent exposure by law*cough*ethics*cough*.

No shirt, No shoes, No service.

Don't be inconsiderate of those around you.

Close your binds if you are walking around half-naked in your house and don't walk outside half-naked.
