Do we Accept I.Q as Intelligence?
0
Well that's the question. Do we accept it as Intelligence, and if we do how well does I.Q measure it?
I mean yeah sure we've all heard of the theory of "multiple intelligences" (there are at least eight different types of intelligence, all of which must be taken into account when establishing a vision of a person's abilities and potential). But is this intelligence, for me this question I have never come to a conclusion just what is intelligence.I doubt I.Q is because I have high doubts that I'm more Intelligent than 97.5% of the world.

I have my own way of deciding a person's intelligence, I'm just trying to refine it. I don't really care if it's subjective.
I also don't care much for I.Q. measurements. If people really think I.Q. is the best way to measure intelligence, fine, I still think my way's better.

I.Q. is just a form of measurement which gives like an estimate of how much capacity you have in terms of learning stuff, keeping stuff in your head. At least that's what I think. I don't think someone with high I.Q. is necessarily "smart". The only except to my idea is of course Albert Einstein.

I'm pretty much agree with you, it's just annoying that I have never been able to objectify it. Perhaps, it says something about my Personality, but enough of going off topic.
I really doubt I.Q as a way of measuring intelligence but on the other hand I think the idea of the 8 intelligences theory seems flawed in many areas i.e no real concrete evidence

Stephen Hawking (the wheel chair guy) said that IQ scores are meaningless, or something to that extent. I think he's a good guy to listen to, because he could easily use his IQ to make points, instead of actual thought and reasoning.
And like you said, Hazah, there are different kinds of intelligence. I'm great at some things but absolutely horrible at others. I mean, really fucking bad. So bad that any 12-year-old puts me to shame. If you talk about directions, for example, or tell me to imagine physical shapes or space in my mind, I just can't do it. Doesn't mean I'm not intelligent. Just means that I'm not good in those areas.
Not to get off on a tangent, but I personally prefer emotional intelligence to, I don't know, book smarts. I love having deep and smart conversations and debates, but I'd rather spend time with someone that truly understands emotions, their own as well as others'. But there's no IQ test for emotional intelligence. Besides, the smartest person in the world could be a royal dick. Intelligence and personality don't necessarily correlate.

I Believe That IQ is an abstract Intelligence. or How should Say it.
More like A Common Sense. Hence IQ is more like an instinct of our common sense.

IQ is a little too abstract. If you knew someone for a while, everyone thought they were stupid and naive, they never understood what was going on around them or what people thought of them and they just generally seemed slow witted and ignorant, but then they take an IQ test and get a really high score, no one is going to change their opinion of him. He's still a retard but now he's a retard that can spot the odd one out in a list of 6 shapes.
Similarly, if we somehow could find out the IQ of people like Shakespeare, George Washington, Oscar Wilde - whoever you think is a guy famous for their creativity, their wits and other mental faculties - and you found out they had low IQs, you wouldn't think "Oh well I guess Shakespeare was a total retard then!"
tl;dr IQ scores may generally show the general speed and sort of operational power of a mind, in a very rigid sense, but they can also exist totally separately from applied intelligence - whether that be scientific, creative, linguistic, whatever.

To base one's level of intelligence and or intellectual capabilities on a test score seems pretty lame. I think it is best to base intelligence on more than one thing (in this case more than I.Q.).
Also, I support what Shaggy said about how intelligence and personality don't necessarily correlate.
You can be an ass, but also smart. Or you can be a dumb ass. Lol.

In the end, an IQ is just.. an "intelligence quotient". It doesn't tell much about how smart you really are, as stated in previous posts. For me, if someone told me they had an IQ of 190, I'd be like, "Cool.", as it doesn't really change my opinion of whether or they're a dickhead. I believe that a high EQ is just so much more important, as it helps you deal with all the crap in life, like when a family member passes away, you get dumped, or w/e, so that you don't scream and attack people, or run through the streets naked, or whatever it is people with no control over their emotions do. Great example, if you haven't seen it already:

I think it's quite usable as an value for intelligence. At least till now it was suprisingly according to my thoughts of someone.
But note that intelligence isn't everything. Someone can be kind and helping without beeing intelligent.

@ shaggy: Actually... there is an test for EQ. You need a psychologist for that though.
Yeah... Psych 101 tells you that IQ is basically shit. It was made years ago and is practically obsolete, but we still use it, lacking a better alternative. Nowadays, a new system of three core intelligences is proposed, which better covers other realms of ability that would classify musical or artistical intelligence.
Still, IQ isn't something set in stone. The IQ is extremely dependent on the environment one is exposed to as an infant. The more varied the experiences are, the more intelligent a child turns out. Nutrition and prenatal care also is a factor, and brain damage from toxins can greatly reduce intelligence capacity.
So don't baby talk to babies and you'll see great results ^^

IQ doesn't mean much if you don't put in the effort to learn. For example, when I was younger I took an IQ test and it told me I was "smart", but I was lazy as hell and got bad grades because I didn't put in the effort into studying or doing homework. So I think IQ isn't a very good representation of intelligence and your better off using a SAT score or something.

As with anything, if you don't practice or use it often, your ability to use your brain can weaken. Also, if you don't use that intelligence for anything, then you're not any different from a person with a low IQ. You'll accomplish the same things. Similarly, a person that works hard may accomplish the same things as a person with a high IQ, albeit with more time.

Seeing that there are answers and guide on all kinds of IQ tests scattered across bookstores and the internet nowadays, it is strange to still see IQ as a measurement of one's intelligence. A good IQ score maybe can tell that you're clever, but doesn't mean you're intelligent.
The professional world doesn't even bother checking IQ scores anymore. Job interviewers will only look at your GPA, your psychotest result, your attitude and answer from the interview since they don't need just a smart guy, but also a smart guy with enthusiasm to create innovations for the company. That's why EQ and SQ got more popular, because your value as a human is not determined by your test score.

Basically, even if you have a high I.Q., if you don't apply it (As in good GPA, and thus grades) then you may as well be stupid for all the good your high I.Q did.

Yeah, i hate IQ, once you take the test some people brand you as either smart or stupid, they quantify what they cannot measure, so they say that what they can measure is all that matters.
I was rated at an IQ o 165, but i really don't feel like a genius, sure i'm better at some stuff, but everyone has stuff they're good at.

I dont acutally believe its a big deal, but sometimes its the only way you can make stupid listen to what your saying.~
Then again even then they still ignorant fucks and dont listen, and then they go ahead and do what they want.. then they fuck it up and then they run back to you and either ask for helpm or balme you for their stupidity.
