Gross Cop Power Trip

The news report
Don't you just hate when cops think they're God?
I truly hated when he said "this is now your life as you know it"
That is such a gross power trip to think he changed his life.
I really hope that cop gets fired.
I bet his stepdaughter really hates him.
Believe it or not, I went with a girl who had a sheriff for a stepfather, she HATED him.
What do you guys think of this?

As a cop, he would have had no right to intervene.
As a father, he had the right to intervene.
If one wants to take take the laws into their own hands by mixing duty with personal issues, just be sure to take responsibility that goes along with it.
If I had that done to me, the only thing that would've changed would be that I'd have a further ill impression of cops. (And also dream about the unique ways to express my... gratitude for the lecture.)
"Not a good thing that the person you had sex with is a cop's daughter,"
OOOO so you want your daughter to be "your little girl" forever huh?
HAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Fucking ridiculous.
I can only imagine how fucking pent up I'd be living with such a dick of a stepfather.
"The incident has sparked debate about whether the officer was acting as a concerned father protecting his daughter or a angry policeman abusing his status."
If you want to think of him as a concerned father, ask yourself what would you think of someone who handcuffs people while lecturing them.
You wouldn't think any normal person does that ja?
Well that`s because he`s not acting as a civilian, but as a cop!
If you`re going to be a cop, get ready to be judged as one.
You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Is age of consent not 14? Or have I incorrectly memorized the age of consent? It depends where you're from.

I might've memorized out-of-date data because they changed the age of consent in Canada from 14 to 16 back in 2008, or perhaps just out-right misremembered it. I dunno.
However, according to wiki (and some government site I googled to verify), there are exceptions to this in some places in NA (like Canada), which is the Close-in-age watchamacallit, which permits individuals who are of similar age to engage in sexual activities.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_consent#Defences_and_exceptions
http://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/dept-min/clp/faq.html
But seeing as this case is in California and these rules (and variants) don't apply, they are indeed considered guilty.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romeo_and_Juliet_laws#Romeo_and_Juliet_laws
But I still take my stance that as a cop, he has no right, with the edit of not legal right, but instead what I myself consider right and wrong.
Even as a dog of the state, you`re still self-conscious, and I`ll still bitch on a Nazi when I see one.

Mustn't Run Away...
The people blasting the cop are a bunch of fucking retards...check the state laws and see what the cop ACTUALLY could have done to the kid..a little scare tactic is much more pleasant then being marked as a sex offender, honestly I hope the cop gets a slap on the wrist.Had he beaten the kid or threatened his life fine take the cop to jail cause he's abusing his power and "playing God" by punishing him ,but showing him a very REAL outcome of what could happen to him instead of actually doing it is more than the little fucker deserves ,and to the douche saying you can't keep your daughter a "little" girl forever you are a fucking child molester if you think a 14 year old isn't a child ,and don't give me that people used to get married at 12 bullshit ,or people can love at any age, when the life expectancy of a person is 30 shit like that is acceptable ,but that is not the fucking case ,and the vast majority of children these days are unable to make decisions as large as this with sound judgement.

15 year olds should not be fucking 14 year olds. The cop had every right to do that as a father. both as a father and as a officer of the law.
I changed my opinion. Still that kid better get a good talking too...

The age of consent in CA is 18.
As venalias mentioned, under the romeo and juliet law the girl was just as guilty as the boy, that's why the cop didn't acctualy arrest that kid. his daughter would have had to go through it all too.
what the cop did was against the law.
from CA penal code:
M 146 PUBLIC OFFICER or IMPERSONATOR: Under color of authority or pretend legal process, do any of the following:
(a) ARREST or DETAIN a person or threaten same.
(b) SEIZE PROPERTY or take a portion of the same.
(c) EVICT from land or tenement.
F 149 ASSULT or BATTERY; Under Color of Authority: Public officer assult or beat a person w/out lawful necessity.
these are listed under Crimes Against Public Justice.

His abuse of power is sickening.
He had every right to be there as a father for his girl.
He did not have the right to use his cop status to "scare" the boy. It makes him no less than a bully with power.

??? what's with this whole abusing power shit? I've seen way too many stories like this recently >.> So, just because of some loophole people shouldn't get what they had coming? It's stupid. Yeah he shouldn't have done what he did, he should have taken him to prison 'then' lectured him. He just didn't have the stomach to get his daughter involved though, but I bet she was punished similarly.
Really I'm more confused 'why' the boy told the news. He 'was' going to get away with a little prank out of the cop's unlucky position instead of legal punishment, but now everyone knows what he did wrong and maybe (don't know the exact legal details) go to court for it. Doesn't seem worth it... People now-a-days tend to think that civil law is the same as a toy, and a heart of gold is only worth its weight in air.

Having sobered up from bitching mode, I retract my "daddy's little girl" statement.
However, you would actually equate me with a child molester?
Edit: Oh sorry, not equate me with a child molester, but to actually call me one.
What? Are thought crimes equal to real crimes now?
How about branding me an assassin, traitor, and a vandal as well? Because I don't think certain political leaders are quite worthy of living, and had imagined killing them myself or causing them some other... sorts of... misery. (Including boring property destruction, hence the vandal branding)
And since thought crimes are valid, all other deeds are as equally real then no?
So you might as well also call me a superhero, martyr, ruler of the universe, etc... because I just thought of being one right now.
Just to note: the only 14 year olds that I had even consider screwing would be that chick that I thought was attractive when I was 14 myself, and delicious yangire Ryuuguu Rena. (Who would actually be 41 this year, were she real, amusing enough) =P

I know you changed your opinion but I just wanna say that they're only one year apart.
Whats the big deal?
If there was a huge gap in age then yeah, but a one year gap?
Come on, relax. They are old enough to know what they're doing.
I lost my virginity when I was 14 and I am soooo greatful her daddy didn't do that to me. lol
But I guess everyone has a different opinion on how young is too young to have sex.

At that young of an age there is no way you can be even close to handling the situation that is sex and everything that comes with it.
So yeah, it is too young to be having sex.

As a dad he had every right to.
He has the right to beat the kid up.
But never the right to abuse his authority as a cop and arrest the kid if the kid had the daughter's consent.

People seem to be missing the point. it's not about what the kids did, it's about what the cop did. if he had came to yell about his daughter in street clothes, it would have been fine. when he showed up in uniform, and hand cuffed that kid, he crossed the line. that is against the law. even though it is only a misdemenor, i doubt anything will happen to the cop beyond a slap on the wrist.
for any who doubted my abreviated discription of the law, here is a direct link to the state of california website: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=pen&group=00001-01000&file=142-181 section 146.

Hahaha, use what you got. The kid still learned the lesson (He did, right?). Maybe the cop broke a law. The law isn't always right. If he has a uniform and a badge, why not use it teach a lesson? If you have a nail that needs to be hammered, why not use a hammer?
Sure, maybe he didn't need to use his uniform and badge, but it worked.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do it.
I could fuck a girl with herpes but I wont. (lol)
I could cheat on my GF but I wont. (Its impossible to cheat on her anyways seeing as how we're in a open relationship, but you get the point).
Depends where you hammer that nail. ;)
Sure, maybe he didn't need to use his uniform and badge, but it worked.
Sure it did! Give or take some mental scaring and a possible hate for cops that will last a very long time.
EDIT:
Also, on a side note, the report showed that he didn't have his badge on at the time.
