Gun Control

I say guns should not be allowed into the hands of those not trained to use them. Even before I enlisted in the military I have been trained in the safety and use of guns. Also not in the hands of criminals or mentally unstable.

I'm glad to see someone that's not a gun nut, seriously if they think it makes them a "man" to have a gun then they are over compensating for something. Allowing just anyone to have a lethal weapon is not a good idea. Soldiers and Police should however be allowed them as that is part of their job, but just giving a gun to all Police is not a good idea either, they should be given only to the ones that need them.

Not too much of a problem here in England, but the Police keep fucking it up.

Yeah, weapons really aren't such a big problem here in Sweden. Not that I usually meet strangers or so, but I only think I've encountered an armed person once in my entire life, and that was just a knife.
Weapons spawn the need for weapons I suppose, and once it's in the system, it's hard to get rid of them.
Althought in my world, no sane person walks around with weapons on them.
I even get a bad feeling when I read how some of my fellow Fakkers got knives under their pillows and shit, makes me wonder how the situation is around the world.

Guns should be banned. It probably won't stop people from getting their hands on them but at least it's better than wasting money on the corrupted Canadian gun registry.

I don't think anyone should have guns. They're totally unnecessary and there are already enough ways to kill people. Besides, they're for pussies. If you're gonna kill someone, man up and do it with some kind of melee weapon. Using a heartless, obdurate weapon like a gun doesn't allow you to feel the "weight of life" as you're taking it from your victim.

Firearms are totally banned over here, with the exception of those in the police and army.
Looking at it from viewpoint of large countries, there may be a need for commoners to arm themselves as a form of defence, especially in areas where security is lacking. However, as always, there will be some who abuse the system, using this privilege for the wrong purposes. Therefore, strict rules of gun control must be implemented and enforced at the start; otherwise, once the system is embedded, it will be difficult to change it.

well the issue concerning guns is a tricky one. On one side the right to bear arms is one of our fundamental rights as an American citizen. on another guns are dangerous, they're designed to kill things. I have the opportunity of being able to look at this from multiple perspectives. some members of my family are avid hunters, not myself, but I'm not going to stop them (I LIKE venison). From another perspective I live close enough to a major city that gun laws and gun violence are very real issues (I've been woken up by gunshots several times). I think, that with all things knowledge is the answer to this problem. people need to know that guns are NOT toys, they kill people.

I take offense to that I hunt with guns(and bows do bows count).
I would love to kill a deer with a sword, knife, and some throwing daggers but they would call that animal cruelty and i would get ticketed. I guess when you kill things with guns it is no longer cruel.

Bow's do count because they require actual skill and strength, not just firing a gun at a target, and I don't see how they can allow people to hunt and kill for sort and then say using a melee weapon would be animal cruelty, when a gun would cause more damage.

It depends on why they're hunting, if it's for food then they are a real hunter whether they use a gun or not, but if it's for "sport" then they don't deserve to be called a hunter merely for going out and killing an animal with a gun.

Not completely the same, though close - if you want to read about how more people feel there's this too:

I am an American and I am for gun control but, not in the sense people think. Most gun control supporters want guns completely gone which is a Utopian pipe dream. No matter how hard you try, no matter how much manpower and time you put into it. Removing guns from the hands of ordinary citizens only places the guns in the hands of the worst offenders, criminals and cops.
One of the first steps a government that wants total control is to ban guns. This removes the citizens ability to fight back against the government when it institutes its rules.
---------------
"The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subjected people to carry arms; history shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subjected people to carry arms have prepared their own fall."
- Adolf Hitler
--------------------------
"If the opposition (citizen) disarms, well and good. If it refuses to disarm, we shall disarm it ourselves."
- Josef Stalin
----------------------------
"Waiting periods are only a step. Registration is only a step. The prohibition of private firearms is the goal"
-Attorney Generral Janet Reno
----------------------------------
The founding fathers knew that all governments become tyrannical over time so the bill of rights was written. These rights are granted to us by ourselves. Ultimately it is the people who have the final say. Tyrannical governments don't want you to have a say, just obey.
------------------------
"No free man shall ever be de-barred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain their right to keep and bear arms is as a last resort to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
- Thomas Jefferson, of Virginia, Proposed Virginia Constitution, 1776
------------------------
The Constitution preserves "the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation. . . (where) the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms."
- James Madison, of Virginia, The Federalist, No. 46
----------------------
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms . . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes . . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
- Jefferson's "Commonplace Book," 1774-1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764
---------------------------
"The Constitution of most of our states (and of the United States) asserts that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed."
- Thomas Jefferson
---------------------------
That pretty much debunks the "the second amendment doesn't give you a right to bear arms" crowd. The intentions of Thomas Jefferson (and the founding fathers) were clear about the second amendment.
I do mind "common sense" gun control. Short waiting periods, background checks, restrictions on assault weapons but, not everyone needs a damn rocket propelled grenade laying in the back of their closet.
Sometimes I get depressed when I think about this. The very people who try to save the rights of everyone are having their rights stripped from them by the very people they protect. "You don't have a right to carry a gun" (even though its obvious that I do get that right) while the same group that hates guns thinks everything else in the world is a right. Its a right to drive on the road, its a right to education, a right to health care.
Why don't we work on preserving the rights we have before we go about slapping some new ones on the constitution.
