Is overkill always really necessary?

The proverbial OVERKILL. One cannot know if he/she already has done it or is currently doing it. The main cause for this is rage, when one cannot keep their cover closed. Did you notice when you are so pissed off and when you already finished your opponent or something you still want to hit it again and again and again until you are satisfied.
The very definition of overkill is you apply a shitload of force that is more than enough to destroy or defeat that thing.
But sometimes, is it always necessary? Like when you see your opponent lying there after you beat the fuck out of him yet you still straddle onto him and apply more blows... Is it always necessary? Already down, but yet raining blow after blow...

Sometimes it is necessary to make sure that they are down/dead. You never know if they might get back up to finish you off. But things like School Days is true over kill. What is it? Get stabbed like 100 times and have your head cut off?

Person 1: Hey is that guy over there dead?
Person 2: I don't know lets go check
(Person 2 walks over to the guy on the floor)
(Person 1 hears a loud bang)
Person 2: Yup his dead.

Lol, overkill is by definition an unnecessary thing. And no, I don't think delivering extra blows to make sure you took out the opponent necessary.

Hmm, I think over kill should only be used on Zombies or the serial killers!
Besides that i don't think its necessary, it would just be a waste of ammo and strength.

But as you can see in the second EP of Darker than Black 2, the Magician didnt die even after Hei electrocuted him. Therefore, it was necessary to perform an overkill.

Overkill can be necessary. If you beat someone up and win a fight, who's to say they won't come back with weapons or more people to get revenge? To make your point in saying, "Leave me the fuck alone." Sometimes some extra hits and broken bones are what's required.

We need overkill becuase when you want somebody dead, you make sure they're dead before you clean up the mess and leave the house. Otherwise you might get a happy visit from a certain someone later that night.

Overkill, or being thorough?
There is a right action for every situation, and sometimes that action is overkill.

Being thorough is while you are still attacking relentlessly at the opponent who is still standing... while overkill is you are attacking the opponent after he is already down

probably because you are angry and angry overrides reason and sympathy.Either that or you making sure that person doesn't mess with you again.

Remembering Ender's Game, it's sometimes necessary to do more than the initial action in order to ensure that no future problems will occur, whether it be putting down a bully, double-tap an enemy soldier, over-insuring your car, having a portable generator for electricity, or even preparing for the zombie apocalpyse. It helps put human mind at ease, knowing that one will be prepared for the future through preparation or elimination of the threat(s).
