Is Peace a Lie?

Peace = utopia = "no place"No place means it's not even in your imagination. Try. If you try to imagine the world of "peace", it will fall apart by itself very quickly.
Even so, in a utopia, a "perfect" place, how would you define peace? If everything is so perfect, how would you know it even exists? T'would be no way to differentiate normal life from "peace" in a utopia.

Beliefs are fought over everyday for the sake of living like defending yourself from insults to cultural differences, people will have to fight so that they can be safe in what they want to believe in. Peace, is a belief to not have these fights but others may feel to uncomfortable with the idea or too greedy over the idea to take advantage. Thus, a fight is always inevitable; so true peace is not just only hard to obtain, but there will always be a fight beforehand. As I keep telling my brother, as long as humanity maintains sentient thought there can be no peace. The only way to attain "true" peace is if everyone was the same person, with exactly the same likes, dislikes, beliefs, etc. But since everyone can think for themselves, it is impossible for all of us to be identical. We will always see a difference in each other, and use that as an excuse to fight.
And personally, "peace" to me was always the silence when everyone reloads their guns.

well if we as penn and teller says define peace as not having wars then world peace may be possible through money. If all countries economy were dependent on eachother so much that you lose more than you gain if you start a war.
Or maybe its enough knowing that everyone will be angry at you (because of that their economy gets hurt), to stop you from starting a war.
But then again this may not work if there are to many leaders that are unintelligent.

In my own opinion one requirement for peace is the overall education of people. I mean one of the main causes of conflict is bad communication and people not understanding each other. Also I mean no offense but religion has also caused a lot of war through out all of human history. So it would be better if the overall ignorance of humanity went down I guess? Is what I am trying to say. Anyways a really cool discussion.

Knowledge doesn't always guarantees peace, sometimes it does the opposite. People generally know others are weak and when they do, they've got the upperhand. It's all in a matter of choosing whether they take the chance or not.

In a way, Peace is the absence of war. as long as countries don't openly declare war on any other country, that means there is peace among the countries. hence, technically we live in a world of peace. On the other hand, if you deepen this definition of Peace to "absence of agression", then you're looking at miles and miles of hard road.
No place means it's not even in your imagination. Try. If you try to imagine the world of "peace", it will fall apart by itself very quickly.
completely agree. ^
if there was absence of agression, it would be unlikely for anything to happen at all: lack of drive towards maintenance of stability and whatnot.

Also if peace just means no full scare wars then we are already walking that path I would agree. But if true peace is no aggression ever I have a hard time seeing that happen unfortunately.

Even if humans were not to exist there would be no peace, species of animal are constantly competing for food supplies, and natural disasters are constantly stirring up chaos as well.

If you really think about it, is there really such thing as "Peace"? Though we may live in an age of so-called "Peace", what about those petty arguments between people or those full scale wars we see? Can "Peace" really be achieved?I remember thing of something said by a teacher of mine..
"If there was the worst kind of animal, then it would be a human."
Doesn't that mean that like, if we exist, "Peace" cannot exist? I'm just really confused..

I have a quote for you.
The world is beautiful, but has a disease called man.
Friedrich Nietzsche
Friedrich Nietzsche
we are nothing more then a disease capable of destroying and replicating, we are not capable of "peace".
Peace is one of those false hopes that are thrown into the bucket along with god. All peace and god do are create false hopes, lies, hypocrisy, death, and destruction. nothing good has ever come out of trying to build a world of peace, and as long as this world believe that there is a god, we will never live in a time of peace.
