National Defense Authorization Act 1031

I don't claim to be extremely knowledgeable about Politics, so maybe someone can explain this better to me. But based on all the information i've been Researching into for the passed few hours, this doesn't seem like a good thing. The reasoning behind it is to strengthen our position against Terrorists and domestic threats. But in the process we're getting rid of one of the basic rights of our Citizens. Is it worth giving that up for increased security.
I honestly believe that my elected politicians are trying to protect America. But it's very hard to learn about something like this, and not be worried.
I'm open to new information, so i'd like to hear people's opinions. I might be looking this the wrong way.

It frankly freaks me right the fuck out.
I pray it does not pass. They're really pushing this and SOPA right under everyone's noses this holiday season...

You're looking at this the right way, it was Benjamin Franklin who once said: "He who trades Liberty for Security, shall neither be free nor secure." But even under the guise of security, we must think of the homeland and what it means to us. It is OUR home, now would you allow someone into your house rampaging with guns? Of course not, just as in our social lives, so it must be in our state lives. This goes doubly so for our English tradition of honor and the due process of law. I think, what we will come to realize is the difference between a politician and a political activist. A politician has absolutely no care for the American People and he has absolutely zero knowledge of anything in terms of the situations on the ground(this, however doesn't prevent him from opening his mouth or writing pieces of legislation sadly.) A political activist, or more aptly named a leader is someone who rises from the general populace, who for all intents and purposes has only one thing in mind: his fellow man and unlike the politician, who locks himself inside parliament for hours on end, the political activist has been socially involved and is therefore actually qualified to make decisions.
America's problem? Our so-called free democracy actually has very few political activists or leaders, instead we've collected ourselves apathetically in our borg hive of choice(IE: Go Republicans! or Go Democrats!) But we're not affecting change or heck, we're not even involved in the political process. We're a Republican or Democratic affiliate. That's it, we've no membership. We're not invited to the National Convention. We're just their vote, that's all. This system of collectivism has effectively placed power into the hands of those who were the best corporate liners and the most apathetic borg hivers of the time of the election(IE: Majority vote democratic, you get a "democratic" government and vice versa.)
This is what the Founding Fathers feared of Democracy, it's de-evolution into tyranny and autocracy, indeed let's just drop the facade: We have an aristocratic government, of corporations and their sponsors and of yes men. It debases leadership and ironically in orchestrating it's collectivism it actually refutes the majority rule, for most men would like to become leaders in their respective fields.
Or at least, theoretically they would like to. I think it's more accurate to say that people would like to live free of government pressure and anxiety. But then, someone has to take the onus on themselves to lead and to lead means to represent the will of the people. Just a warning: You won't find that from a single representative from the Democratic or Republican Party.

I've said it for years and I'll say it again. If you don't watch and restrict your government, the government will watch and restrict you. Now, between the Media, corporate corruption, P.A.T.R.I.O.T Act, S.O.P.A, the N.D.A 1031 amendment, and American Imperialism, we have the foundations for 1984's Oceania.

Unfortunately, more than half of them don't! Too many of them are crooks full of scandals, and had they been under another job setting, not only would they be fired from their jobs, but they would be sent to JAIL!
All you have to do is wikipedia our politicians and congressmen.. Like Newt Gingrich. Would you trust someone who takes bribes of 2.1 million dollars to be your friend? Or how about banksters who steal tax money and use it towards.. Basically nowhere. Not even investing it. Just keeping billions of dollars in the bank because it makes them feel powerful, not even using it!
They become politicians because it makes them feel above the law.
And unfortunately, it's the fault of the American people. Because we continuously elect officials who are clearly crooks, and they don't even hide it. And we elect for stupid reasons too, like "He's a nice looking Mormon man." And to really show how out of hand it's getting, NEWT GINGRICH is the current front-runner in the elections!
If Charlie Sheen would have ran for office, people would have elected him too. (Although mind you, even he would have done a better job.)
I feel as if elections are TOO open! There should be a test to determine if we actually know what candidates stand for. The sad reality is too many people who are apathetic are voting anyways, and that is damaging to democracy because it shows we decide our futures based on ignorance.
Fortunately, we made the right decision electing Obama. No matter whatever controversy surrounds him, he has continuously pledged to veto anything against net neutrality. Source of example.

Thanks for the input fellas.

Funny you should mention that Ben Franklin quote, it's the first thing i thought of when i heard about this. The words really hit the right chords with me.

It might be naivety or trust, but i didn't think i had to watch over my Government. I thought they would have my best interests at heart, apparently i was wrong.
I agree, most of the people i know didn't even know what their representatives stood for. Despite giving them their vote. I really hope Obama vetoes this, i believe he's the last chance for us to stop this now.

Even if this passes on the legislative level (case in point Congress) the President will in all probability veto it, if he doesn't then more than likely the Supreme Court will deem it unconstitutional. Because its a constitutional right to have a fair trial and to have evidence brought against before you are arrested and detained in a jail/prison. It doesn't have a chance in hell of it surviving the day it might be aprroved by Congress.

There are so many things the government does that's unconstitutional, but the courts don't do anything about it. I really wish they would enforce the constitution, as that would solve a lot of our problems.
This bill is freaking me out; I'm willing to leave the U.S. if I have to, but... I don't know, this is just crazy

Democracy= Two wolves and a sheep deciding on what to have for lunch. Or, a Mussolini quote "Democracy is beautiful in theory; in practice it is a fallacy." Democracy is not only a fallacy due to the misalloted power placed in the politician and the political party, it is a fallacy because the politician and the political party does not care.
If your leader does not care, he should not be electable. As Lindsey Graham(R-SC) has made open statements in support of this legislation and against the American People and American Civil Liberties, The entire American State should be demanding his resignation. The reason the Founders supported a Constitutional Republic, was on the basis that the American People would have the most vested interest in their own country. But we the people, have lost that vested interest. And now those who have no interest in but themselves, have power.
From the Supreme Court to Parliament. The System Is Dead.

Listen to the last two mins of the anon video... V for Vendetta bad copypasta. Pass that the bill can be use that way, problem is the army nor any regular units of it can be use unless ordered by the state governments or act of war is announced. change that fact then yeah it can happen. I find it funny you thought the country was a democracy or you had rights anyways. You never had rights, you had privileges. privileges based on what the government felt like giving you.
You thought a piece of paper was going to grant you rights. No one has rights unless the state gives you one. Don't like it.. fight for it. First world problems.
Edit: read some of the outline of the act. Federal troop can't be on american soil until war, revolt or asked by the states in trouble. Prez need to authorized it and congress. Posse comitaus can't be overturn.(the law that banned troops without local authorization unless it a war or emergencies.)

Launch an impotent protest with some sign you bought at the craft store? Point to the constitution and tell them "You can't do that". You don't have rights because you have no way to protect those rights.
All it takes is a false flag operation and martial law can be declared in the United States. That is, IF they want to take the legal route. Otherwise, martial law can be declared because Obama says so even if congress objects. The government has the guns and tanks, you don't.
You are now a vassal subject to the whims of the political nobility.

You see ghosts of something that hasn't happen. Worst case scenario yeah, your right. You hear fear and just go into the state of 'Yeah they're trying to do this and that'. If that true then nothing you do will matter. What the point in this if no one will do anything that not tethered to there computer or involved in their porn. The flawed fact that Americans think nothing worth get up and being angry at something that not bought to by MTV or Jersey Shore, and the hippies at least had a idea.. not the best, but still. The fail idea that you had freedom anyways.
Don't like something, fight for it. Blow shit up, get a gun, kill your congressman start a revolution. No too much work, try protesting. Lazy ass people thing freedom is granted because you were born american and white. You lost the drive of your ancestors, oh wait they just wanted to not pay taxes. All i hear are people bitching and whining. Do something if you feel it wrong. A discussion on bill of rights and the law of the constitution isn't going to do anything to people who are power hungry and want the lobby's money.
But, we are the power in this country. Anytime we want.. no more government. It's just we like someone telling us what to do. Me? Meh i see not wolves nor sheep. I just see bureaucracy. You elected them. You can overthrow them. Just hit where they care at.. the money and their jobs security. Blame yourselves for voting them in. Plus it takes them 4 months just to decide on what to serve in the congressional dining room for Wednesday lunch option. I have more fear in the people controlling their campaign ads more then congress or Obama, but this the insane ramblings of a former UCO of the US army. I have faith in people.. not the government. You know that any officer can denied any order from a superior if he feels like it violates the constitution or basic human rights... at least in theory.

That my point. Fight for what you believe is right. Why anyone care if their against it? No war was totally one sided. Their always a group against anything. Revolutionary war.. most of the country wasn't for Independence from Great Britain. Hell most of the congress wasn't either. It's doesn't matter if one side win or not.. you have to fight to win.. we will fail if not one does nothing anyways.
I bet if you show the the bill on mtv with two hipsters reading why it wrong.. people will understand. no one will ever agree on anything.. not even the color of a orange.

Killing one corrupt politician won't do jack shit. Killing several corrupt politician won't do jack shit. You would have to kill the entire line of succession and congress to eliminate the cancer that is killing this country.

You are nothing. The people have no say in how the government runs, they have no weapons capable of standing up to the U.S military. The American people gave up the only thing that kept the government in check.
You elected them. You can overthrow them. Just hit where they care at.. the money and their jobs security.
I can't tell if you're serious or joking. If you are serious, then you have no concept of how impotent any revolution will be in this country. Even if the entire U.S population revolted. How are they going to take on the U.S military and police forces with hunting rifles and pistols?
