North Korea

They are going to be launching a satellite next week. They say its a communications satellite but the west says its a covert launch to test for long range missiles. Bloomberg says they have two nuclear war heads that they could attach to the missile.
Quote:
North Korea has two nuclear warheads it can load on its mid-range Rodong missile, Japan’s Kyodo News reported, citing an analyst at the International Crisis Group, a non-government organization.
The warheads were built using plutonium extracted from North Korea’s Yongbyon nuclear plant, Kyodo reported, citing Daniel Pinkston, who said he got the information from a government official without divulging which country.
South Korean and U.S. intelligence officials have obtained evidence of the warheads, Pinkston told Kyodo.
North Korea said earlier this month it plans to fire a rocket carrying a satellite into orbit between April 4 and 8. South Korea and the U.S. suspect the launch is a cover for a test of a long-range ballistic missile, which would be a breach of a United Nations resolution.
Japan said it will shoot it down if it flies over Japan while the US has said they can't do anything about it.
What the Hell is going on with NK now!?

Err.. O_o However in usa, there's an civilian suborbital plane which will probably be capable of intercepting that satellite as long as they get a missle or two from the military in secret.
Then once close enough hopefully then blast that satellite then liquor up the pilots and claim they was partying like crazy!
That's quickest counter I can think of. I gotta read up more on this. After sleep.

Perhaps NK are trying to demonstrate military superiority? Just like every other nation with big weapons, they want to show that they're important too I guess. I don't really know much about this. Maybe you should post the original article so that we can get more info.

TAIGA!! err.. um.. if they do test some nuclear thingy, as long as they aim at themselves, its good...

Well, I just read that NK will vow revenge if Japan shoot's down their missile in Japan's own airspace.
Article.
Well, I don't know about you guys, but I don't want anything happening to Anime. :?

I really wouldn't worry about Japan not being able to defend against a NK strike. Japan's got a pretty impressive armada, and the Mitsubishi F-2, which itself is about 30+ years further ahead than NK's Floggers.

Even I am a South Korean I don't have much info as you guys...
i don't know what the hell they are trying to do...
I guess they want to fight against the Great Britania and its allies ^^ with 0 resources and small and desolate territory.

Reunification in the works? maybe but how? The reasoning is that North Korea is the most isolated country in the world. Also having the worst human rights(WAYYYYY PAST China). This might be showing that North Korea might be wanting to become a place like China.
There has also been discussions between Kim Jong Il and the South Korean President to make a peaceful agreement or "reunification". This might be the first sign.
I could be totally wrong and see that North Korea is totally bullshitting the UN and sending a long range nuke.

Oh please don't reunite. Then my homeland would be 1 Korea, and then we might have a bunch of civil wars with the North people trying to completely take over this one Korea.
And about nukes... well, I'm sure they won't fire one (causing another war), but maybe keep it up for threatening other nations?

Maybe Mr. Kimmy is trying to prove something. Like...

Or maybe they are trying to hold a position as a major player on the world stage.
Or are trying to take advantage of the world economic crisis to be the new badass on the block, so to speak.

No need to even use space planes - They are really intended much more for air to ground attacks anyway. Their biggest advantage is their speed, because they are suborbital they can go all the way around the planet in something like half an hour. They would also be extremely hard to take down, so if you load one up with nukes it becomes a big deterrent for other countries that might consider attacking us - because no matter what happens, we will still have probably enough fire power to level the world flying in orbit (we aren't the only country with the technology though, so far as I know russia has them as well).
But I digress. Most of the superpowers have already shot down their own satellites with regular missiles at least once or twice just to see if they could. Apparently it isn't particularly difficult. I imagine you probably wouldn't even need to load explosives on the missiles either, because most satellites are fairly fragile.

Hmm, what if they aim at somewhere else?
But frankly speaking, In the condition NK is in,launching a satellite/missile should actually be the last thing they should consider doing.
And if its a warhead they launch, there's no benefit to it whether it gets intercepted or not; it damages the atmosphere.
Edit: On a seperate matter, I'm not sure if this is relevant, but i find it too funny to ignore.

If I was the prez I would say. Let the UN inspect it before launch or I'll fucken nuke you when you launch it. Nobody fuck's with us or our allies or they get nuke'd mother fucker. But that's probably why i'll never be prez.
Oh and this article was very intersting thanks for bringing it up. :D

Pffft...North Korea has been doing this for a while and most of the time it fails drmatically. Though i do wonder about the underground nuclear experiment thing they did a while ago.
Anyway, North korea has too much to risk since they no longer have the support of the Soviet Union, due to its dissoloution, and China practically shoved them off. Plus, as mentioned above, their natural resources aint worth shit and most of their people are so malnourished to the point that theyre practically midgets.
The only reason we keep em around is because theyre armed with nuclear warheads and maybe to entertain us due to their frickin hilarious comedy they call a country.
