I'm a pretty cold person in general and tend to not be bothered by anything these days, however this one is a special case. I don't know if I just had a bad day or what, but this didn't do anything but reaffirm deep feelings of misanthropy.
"Suzana Vidovic found her sister's body hanging over the front lawn. The family watched, she said, as the girls who had tormented Sladjana for months walked up to the casket -- and laughed.
"They were laughing at the way she looked," Suzana says, crying. "Even though she died."
Any thoughts on this? Other than immature babbling about 'stupid teens killing themselves', that's quite unnecessary.

Thats really fucked up. Normally I don't care much when kids kill themselves over bullying. I thinks its weak and sad. But when people take it to this levle...
I mean, laughing at someone at there funeral? Thats wrong. Its not just calling someone a "fag" or a "bitch." This takes things to the next level. Those girls should be expelled from there respective schools and sent to a mental institution. Because its clear they need help.

god.. this is just.. im beyond words right now. but if I ever saw something like that happen youd better hope there are plenty of strong guys there to hold me back because I wouldn't hesitate a second to beat them within a inch of there lives

Wow, seems like a concentration of either bad kids (who bullied) or complete ignoring of student issues by faculty.
Seriously, I'd smack someone in the face for laughing at someone in casket, especially if they were the people who drove the deceased to suicide. WTF, world...

I agree, thats completely messed up. They should be sent to a mental institution then charged for at least something or at least pay something to the family.

Most people consider bullying a dead horse topic but, honestly, it's one that isn't going away. I had a friend who used to get beaten up on a daily basis from 3rd grade all the way through 8th. Her friend got pulled into it for trying to defend her, so they started beating her, too. Later on that friend shot and killed herself because she just couldn't take it anymore. I, myself, was made fun of daily up until high school and, even though I'm fine today, those memories, emotional scars if you want, don't go away.
Unfortunately, this isn't a problem that's going to go away any time soon. It's a two fold problem that you can basically blame on the way society is today. Firstly, we have negligent, arrogant parents who not only deny the allegations that their son or daughter could EVER bully anyone but almost applaud the fact that their kid is the bully, not the bullied. Secondly, you have an impotent school system that's run by a self-interested bureaucratic pseudo political system so petrified of being sued that they've even done away with a grade system in which a kid can fail. Until one or both of those things change dramatically, bullying will continue unabated.
My mother is a teacher in a middle school and she's so frustrated with the way teachers' hands are tied and how corrupt the system is that she's looking to retire early. Teachers in her school district are not allowed to touch their students. Like, at all. Don't clap that good kid on the shoulder because you'll get in trouble. As I said before, they're not allowed to fail kids. The worst she can do is give out Incompletes or Ds. They're not allowed to raise their voices above a certain level, never mind call these brats what they really are. Basically, they can't intervene at all in any but the most basic and ineffectual ways. At the least they can move kids' seats around so they aren't near one another. At the most they can call the kids' homes, at which point they have to deal with parents who accuse the teacher of singling out their child and threaten to speak to the principal about how bad said teacher is.
With that much impotency, what can a teacher hope to do to stop bullying? Sure, they can demand quiet. They can tell potential bullies to move along and "leave her alone." They can move seats around or threaten to report the student. That's basically it, though. Once those kids are out of the classroom, or simply out of the teacher's sight, what's to stop the bully from just picking up where he or she left off? Not a damned thing. Sure, the teacher can leave themselves open in case a student wants to talk, and my mother has had one or two that were brave enough to do so, but most kids won't trust an authority figure that has little to no power. Besides, if the bully ever found out it'd just be more ammunition to be used against them.
The sad fact of the matter is, unless the changes start at home, with the parents, nothing will change. You can no longer rely on the school system to properly monitor kids' behavior. Unless parents open their eyes and start reprimanding poor behavior in their kids, or conversely teach their kids to stand up for themselves even just verbally so as not to become a target, bullying will continue. School systems are impotent and basically useless as far as disciplining goes. No teacher is going to risk their job security based on hearsay from a student who professes to be the victim of bullying. They're all too afraid of being fired or sued.

That's nuts, at my old school it was a free for all as long as intended injury was avoided. Depended on the teacher how much people could get away with though. For the most part, even attempting to sue a teacher for something like that would kill your social life and make you object of every bully in school...

I hope that school gets shut down, one death shouldn't have happened, let alone 4.
I think students involved with bullying should be sentenced to at least juvenile detention. If they're 17-18 though I'd like them to be charged as adults with knowingly harassing/abusing someone literally to death.
That school district is looking at seriously having to stomp out any form of bullying if they have any hopes at surviving. Expelling any student who is causing a problem.

First and foremost, I do indeed find this ridiculous. One suicide is enough to warrant investigation by the school, or a higher authority of both the case, and said school. Too see that little to nothing is being done about this, especially after the accused gets away with it, and insults the deceased, along with the fact that there were more to follow... makes my blood boil, and I'd be more than willing to backhand anyone I saw doing such a terrible thing. I just goes to show how fucked up our system is today, and how things are run throughout the system. And some might say, "Well, it's only here or there." Bullshit. Stop kidding yourself. It's fucking everywhere.
We need far more, and far fairer, disciplinary actions taken by the school for these cases, and any parent that finds there son or daughter on the receiving end of such punishment should open their eyes, and stop denying the fact that their kid is a little shit, and deserves what's coming to them.
However, none of that will happen, because people are too shit scared of being sued, being yelled at, etc, etc. We have BS parents who want to be friends with their children, and not fucking parents (DOESN'T FUCKING WORK THAT WAY, YOU DUMB FUCKS!), and we have people who just prefer to take the backseat, and turn a blind eye to what's happening.
Simply put; People need to get their fucking act together, because this'll just get worse, and worse if things aren't fixed.
Makes me damn sad every time I see shit like this, and nothing gets done about it.

Bullying is despicable. there was a newsreport a couple of weeks back about a father threatening the kids bullying his handicapped daughter, and I fully support his action.
That being said, suicide is social darwinism at work.

Although I am not surprised the least, I am still not a misanthrope. The two girls found the ultimate affirmation of their "work" - they could only be happy about it, if they invested so much time in it. And it doesn't matter if it's not productive, it's self-confirmation. Those girls themselves were probably raised by parents that hated them, and had to hate someone in return. This is the circle of hate.
"Stop bullying" via higher dedication by the schools on this topic, or by making it a criminal offense, and those kids who were raised in hate will hang themselves, solving ultimately no problem at all. Bad parenting - this is the "root of evil".
More understanding, less hating - on this thread at least. "I would beat the shit out of those girls" doesn't bring anybody anywhere.
Fixed. This statement however is not overall applicable. There are many reasons why someone commits suicide, not only because "he couldn't take it anymore", but also to f.e. protect others from himself.

Being a misanthrope, this kind of thing no longer really surprises me; at this point it's just kind of pitiful. The fact that basically children have this capacity for hatred is disgusting but, as Tachyon already noted, it goes back to the parents. The schools can only do so much if the kids have been taught to hate since they were small and completely malleable. Most teenagers just shrug off anything said in school from life lessons to math lessons.

Being a misanthrope....C'mon people, if you all really were misanthropes, you wouldn't participate in this forum. You just can't comprehend the overwhelming stupidity of mankind, but you'll get used to it eventually.
@Kalistean:
Yeah, kill that shit! That's how ego-shooters and the USA function.

SO the families are suing the school.
America seriously needs to stop suing everyone for everything, we need to learn how to take responsibility for our actions. The school may be partially at fault here, but it is the DUTY of the parent to TAKE CARE of his or her child. Of the 18 hours the child is at home with a parent, it is the parents duty to take care of the problems that a child can not face alone. The parents need to take responsibility for neglecting their child. I think that the US should have stricter suing laws.
