People Who Inspired You

I was watching a documentary about Abraham Lincoln, and they said he inspires many Americans to be tolerant and understanding. So as I was watching TTGL, and saw how Simon got so much of his inspiration, and will to keep going all from his brother. This led me to think of who I had always considered an inspiration that I looked up to as a kid.
Many popular names came up like FDR, George Washington, Julius Caesar, Winston Churchill, but none stood out as much as one Alexander the Great. He is the only person I have ever thought of as a true inspiration to be better. By the age of 33 he had conquered “the know world”, and is thought to be undefeated. Though what he conquered was only a small portion of the world, it still it had a great impact on me as a kid. Someone who learned from Aristotle and was innovative and strict in command; when I think about what I would really like to do with my life, I always think of conquering it and bringing it together like Alexander did.
If I had to pick one figure in all of history that truly had a deep meaningful impact on my life it would be Alexander of Macedon. He has inspired me to go out and do things that I never would have done without his legacy to inspire me.
So I thought who were some people who inspire the men and women here on Fakku? Who do you look up to for inspiration, and why did that person inspire you so much?

I've been asked this a lot over the years, and I really can't say anyone has influenced how I am today. I mean a lot of things that people have done over the years affects our day-to-day lives, but no one single person has made any impact on my life. I've always done what I wanted to do based mostly on just what I've randomly tried.

Meh, I have no intimate and personal idols, since it was the family and friends of the family who said the same thing over and over. My freelance art teachers did the same, even though I appreciate and learned a lot from them.
My artistic idols are Vargas and Dali. They both introduced me to some interesting stuff. I never knew you could draw weird psychological shit like Dali did nor "pornography" (pin-ups were softcore, methinks) like Vargas. It was all too interesting, since that's what I draw now.

His way of life really make me think that he's awesome...

Ghandi, that man would not give up. He inspired me big time, and anyone that has tenacity to never give up no matter the obstacles or the impossibleness of the situation. And even for non chirstians, jesus was just an awesome person, facing and entire religion and the roman empire and never striking back with violence only love. And naruto... yeah naruto inspired me to get inshape XD... it was because he always liked to train... yup, i'm a dork

The guys from Pixar. They are one of my biggest inspirations. Aside from them and another few artists... nothing comes to mind atm.

The Forgotten Faggot
Salvador Dali, and,(This is going to sound weird) FF7 Jenova. For some reason her "reunion" inspired me to not kill myself. IDK, like no matter how fucked up you get you can still pull yourself together. & for some odd reason(& this time im not being an ignorant dick) just about any female I find attractive. It inspires me to do things, mainly art...

As self-serving as this sounds, myself. My own failure is what I grade my next success on. I use other things as a nice grounding though, otherwise I wouldn't be able to move forward.

My problem with using people as inspiration, especially historical figures, is that they are often idealized and it is not really the people themselves that serve as inspiration, but an abstract ideal of them.
For example, Abraham Lincoln was not, in fact, opposed to slavery, at least not morally. The abolition of slavery was a political tool.
Things like this are very common in political figures, because there has never been a time when politics was not corrupt.
Although, humans are really creatures based on lies. People lie constantly to themselves and people around them just to get through life. This is why there are atheists who do not believe a secular society is a good idea; a lot of people need lies like, "there is a god" to get them through their lives.
The same is true with heroes. It doesn't matter so much what the people were actually like, it just matters what the represent to you, and if they do good things for you.
But...I'm the kind of asshole who is pretty concerned with the truth. A friend of mine thinks that this is a very stupid trait I have, and it really probably is.
Anyway, I don't take a lot of heroes. If I do, I tend to do it for what might be considered poor reasons, and/or take fictional heroes.
But it's late so I can't think of anything off the top of my head.

Jim Morrison was my "hero" throughout high school and my first year of college. He definitely inspired me. But it wasn't because he was a great person or that everyone should look up to him. It was because he was flawed. I had read about his early life, and parts of it had resonated with me. I felt almost like he was a kindred spirit, except that he was more daring than I could ever be. I looked at Jim Morrison and saw who I was and who I could be and who I did not want to be.
He isn't my hero now because I prefer to be my own man, instead of asking myself, "What would Jim do in this situation?" or "How would Jim react to this?" Yet I cannot deny how much he has inspired me and how different a person I would be if I hadn't clung onto the idea of Jim Morrison in my past.
Thinking about Jim Morrison made me realize that playing "Return to Sender" for several hours straight will make my roommates kick me out of the house; that people don't think hard enough when it comes to the important things; and that even friendship and love are not enough to make you happy.

Alot of people are saying abramham linclon but i just had to point out that the emancipation proclaimation was an order on the south and had no actual power. You can't make a law that effects another country, the north and south were at war. So why the hell would the southerners just give up their slaves when the north didn't. I guess the only reason we don't make a big deal of this today is because slavery wasn't as common in the north as in the south, and the law eventually because the rule for both sides.
Besides that, Abraham was a good prez for pulling together a divided country (even if it was his election that divided the country).

if its anyone from history i would choose Charles darwin. When i was little i always heard about his adventures and had hopes and dreams about doing stuff like that but unfortunately when i got older i realized that about 98% (i dot know the actual percentage) in the world has been discovered.
but if it was just a normal person who inspired me i would say it was Ken Akamatsu. When i lived in japan for high school i actually worked or the man as an assistant and he was the one who inspired me to become a manga artist. when i worked for him he would teach me here and there about little things that i didnt know about drawing manga and those little tips took my drawings to the next level. Back then i actually helped him work on some very early Negima designs and even into couple of his comics. i never read those when i still lived in japan but i did start in college after 6 or 7 volumes came out. as i read them i realized that even though my sketches rarely made them into the comics all the work i put into them and how they helped shape the final characters made me happy and that when i decided that i wanted to become a manga artist....

Bruce Lee. The pinnacle of pure technique, speed, and strength of the martial arts world. In a way, I base my fighting style around the Jeet Kune Do philosophy. Setting aside his hollywood films, he was considered a god in his time, and even to this day, he is still widely renown. People who look up to Chuck Norris don't know what they're missing because Bruce Lee taught Chuck Norris.

The luminaries of continental Enlightenment.
Montesquieu, Kant, Spinoza, d'Holbach, Pestalozzi, Diderot, Condorcet, Reimarus, D'Alembert, Geiger, I could go on and on - but above all, La Mettrie and Rousseau. Their piercing intellect and lucidity stands as a beacon for centuries to come.

I've never felt that I had a role model in my life, but there are people who have given me a new point of view or ideology. This change helped me find inspiration for my writings.
Eric Nylund, Tim O'Brien, Tom Brady, Christopher Paolini, and Thoreau. I don't take their views to the extreme or base my life on them, but knowing all the different facets of the psyche really unlocks a larger understanding of people around you.

I never really had a role model or idol. I kinda just looked around and figured stuff out as i saw fit. Not exactly the best thing to do...but i turned out alright. I'm not a complete douche XD

My hero would be Buddha and Jesus. Why? Well because they both taught people to bring out the best of themselves by being generous, forgiving and loyal. They’ve both taught me to be strong when life seems the hardest and to never hold a grudge against another living being. To basically sum it up they are the compass of my life.
