Kind of Important
A ray of Tsunlight.
I have no issue with swearing, in fact being told not to, kind of pisses me off. If I feel like dropping a fuck for whatever reason, then I should damn well be able to. I am polite however, enough to curb my words in public, most of the time.

This one time when I was 4 I swore in front of my parents and as a punishment they made me drink tablespoon of Tabasco sauce figuring it would be to hot 4 me but it wasnt bad at all so I said i wanted some more. They were like Oh damn that didnt work?

@KG989: Nice, George Carlin always makes me laugh.
If you look at it, the rise of cursing can be linked to the expansion of modern telecommunications. The more people see others say it the more we are able to confirm that it is ok to use these words. With the proliferation of the interwebs the more access people will have to these words and the more likely it is that they will use them. And since most elementary school kids in the developed world today do not know a world without the internet it is no surprise that they curse as much as they do. To them it is a very normal way of expressing themselves.

Profanities have been so overly used that I find that it's essence has been lost. When you hear profanities nowadays, you won't feel a thing, cause you hear them too often.
Imagine a gentle person who haven't used profanities before suddenly lets loose a soft, simple 'Fuck.'. The effect is a million times greater than some teenage punk who goes around shouting like he is mentally challenged.
Personally I use profanities in moderation. It slips my mouth sometimes. But I think essentially, what is important isn't the profanities, but the way you treat people. A rude man who doesn't scold vulgarities would have less friend than a guy who swears a lot jokingly.

I view it as a very passionate way of expressing yourself. There are certain situations where only the word "fuck" can show everyone how angry or in pain you are. Despite this my mother still hits me in the head every time I say it.Oh man I hear that. I used to swear every other word, but now it's more like once every two maybe three sentences the only time I swear a whole lot is when I'm in extreme pain then it's like I projectile vomit the swear words.

Yeah, it's pretty popular to be a sailor, nowadays. For people who use it on a daily basis, it has no impact. Profanity should be used scarcely to give emphasis to a statement.
Words like wrench and witch have lost their meaning, though. A shame.
There's this one comedian, I don't know his name but he's black and everyone seems to laugh with him. Every time he says a joke, he says the F-word, yeah I said "F-word". But anyway, the point is he's a horrible comedian. Not because he's black but because he overkills swear words.
