Well i'm an Atheists and i believe that everything (from the start) was random.
That "we" have no purpuse to live, but seens we only have one life left then it's no point dying and we have to support the next generation.
(By the way this next thing am about to say is not an insult)
And i believe and respect that some people with religion, not all people, is trying to find a purpose to live, others a life-style and that religion is there to make it easier to live, to forget about "big questions" like why am i here?
But nevertheless i respect people with religion and keep my mouth shut because nobody wins on a debate when it's about culture or religion.

It's gotten to the point where double-standards have become a "norm" to many. Blame one whole group for such a thing, even if it was made a long time ago, yet, forget the fact that other groups have done similar or worse things, but because they aren't the "one group", no need to mention it.
An example would be the takeovers of the United States and Mexico, both were found through bloodshed. Yet, not a lot of people mention that Mexico is the land of the Aztecs.

This. You can't say you are respectful of other peoples beliefs when you judge a whole group of people based on a few assholes.

Sorry for the generalizing, and yes, I based my opinion of this from exactly five years of atheist UK. Not all of them are assholes, but once one starts, everyone just gangs up on you. In some ways being atheist is accepted as being the norm in the UK nowadays and according to my pastor most of the sincere Christians do not live in the big cities (such as London where I am). And London even had at least one advertisement about atheism. Downtrodding on a huge scale.
EDIT: The ads were plastered all over the country.. so yeah. Surge in atheism and general contempt for the Christian soars all over the place.

Until i see this atheist advertisement i can't say whether i would find it insulting/offensive. Anyways, the christian fundamentalists have i think made a negative image of Christians in some peoples eyes, but i personally do not judge others for what they believe, only there actions.

There probably is no God, now stop worrying and enjoy your life. Blatant denial without getting the facts and implying we don't enjoy our lives? This ad just makes Christians look like a bunch of worrywarts and people who don't know how to enjoy life; thing is we do. We just don't do it the common way that's all.
EDIT: Coming from a country where slight offenses like Jeremy Clarkson cracking a random joke can spark a rain of protest, I find it amazing that Human Rights/Some other organization did not interfere.

Hmmmm...doesn't seem that bad to me. I don't see how it is so different from this. If Christians can advertise on buses than so can atheists

Christians being marginalized in the workplace in the UK is no joke; we simply are defending ourselves and yet we got the axe. Ads like the one on the bus are usually dismissed as people have seen too much of it already but banning/refusing us the right to speak up in the form of an ad is a bit too much.

A ray of Tsunlight.
I suppose the irony is that while Christians may begin to feel marginalized now, for the past few thousand years, people who didn't believe in a god were the subject of persecution and all of that. So, while most religious folk I've met claim to be open-minded when it comes to other religions, I rarely see that as the case, at least, personally.
You have to differentiate between the angsty teenagers who claim to be atheist just to act all rebellious, and the actual atheists. I've sure you've seen them at one point or another, those kids who are really the source of the stereotype that all atheists are the kind who openly mock religion, etc. Measure that against the people who actually did attempt to believe in one god or another, and just found out that it didn't suit them, and therefore they chose not to believe in any.
I myself am the later, and honestly, I don't care what you believe in. It has nothing to do with me, so I keep my nose out of it. It just seems it never works the other way around. Most people find out I'm atheist, and they start acting like I'm the devil himself come to drag their children into sin or something.
Truthfully, I just wish everyone would mind their own damn business, all this bitching over what religion is right has gotten old. Who cares what some other guy believes? Does it affect you? No. So get over it.
Regardless, it seems humanity as a whole has more and more people choosing not to be religious, so these kind of things were bound to happen at one point in time or another. You'll just have to tough it out, it'll all work out I'm sure.

Respecting one's beliefs and just not making a rant about it is two different things. I don't have to respects someone's opinion on what he beliefs in god(s), Jesus or the flying spaghetti monster. One's opinion on his faith is between himself and g-d. I believe in a form of Christianity that preaches not telling people their opinions on his faith unless they ask the question.. mostly likely because we been hunted and burn at the stake, racked and had whole villages wiped out by the papists and there armies of conversion.
Nor should anyone care i believe in some different or the same as them. I like the atheists view of the world.. it's actually a point of view. The religious and atheists can't prove one point or another because we don't know if there is a god or a giant anus. One atheists even told be if god or Jesus came back and show themselves powerful creator's of the world and show proof of that.. then i would be one of the faithful.
No one need to respect anything they don't care for. Just don't make a augment or a big deal with it.. fuck the Mormons faith is bullshit, but i don't care.. there life not mine. Also:
Christian science
Witnesses
and
Christianity in general are morality and ideologically retarded anyways. just don't giveth a fuck.

... goddamn...i don't mean to gang up on you because i am also in your same belief category but this is a commandment you just broke. i stopped saying it a couple of years ago. just saying.
ot: there are atheists out there who are aggressively pushing their non-beliefs on others who don't want to not believe. granted, they're not the majority of atheists out there but neither are the hyper-aggressive christians who push their beliefs on everybody and shame those who don't. i don't like it when i see people like that.
personally, i'm like the op in that if you don't wanna hear about my religion, that's fine. i'm not going to force you.

You don't have to mention your religious belief, it will add fuel to the fire, especially in this type of topic.
OT: I have a religion too, and it taught me to respect other religion, and live peacefully.
I came across a lot of atheist who are cool, they don't mock my religion when half of the world hates it.
They hang out with me anyway.
You sound like stereotyping atheist, and I WILL HATE YOU FOR IT! NOT BECAUSE OF YOUR RELIGION, BUT YOUR ATTITUDE!

I'm a christian, but I rarely experience problems with atheist being aggressive. This is mostly because I go to a christian school, and I'm not around atheist that often
I try to inform atheist about Christianity, but I respect their beliefs. If they reject Christianity, then they reject Christianity. I have no right to judge them; I would be a hypocrite to do so.
If they attack Christianity with an intelligent argument, I'll try to defend it, and usually take the opportunity to teach them more about Christianity. If they just insult it, I just do my best to ignore them.

I AM MUSLIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have great respect for each and every belief in the world. My rule is "a person's belief is a person's belief, let him go his way and go yours but you may walk together as comrades."
Even though there are great disagreements among religions and probably there are wars between religions.
Our leaders are at fault not the people. THEY say this and that and people follow what these stupid fucks have to say, even I resent some of my Islam brothers because they support war among the disbelievers and say our way is the right way even though they doubt themselves that this is the right idea.
I truly respect every belief out there because they believe in an entity that gives them strength.
I hate the haters because their hate is nothing more than mere air for my lungs to breath in and out.
I respect even atheists who don't believe in God, they believe in science and such and im not against that at all.
Everybody has their own view in things and it's alright, because religion has been around so long that of course it causes confusion around the world and the new generation Christians, Muslims, Buddhist and even Atheists are looking for answers regarding to belief and purpose in life, and let's not forget that in the process some chose to believe nothing at all and that is ok for my view since I feel sorry for us and the coming generation since there was no specific descriptions written in the ancient times.
So on top of all that, comes whipped cream and a cherry on top, meaning :
There will always be confusion among the people regarding religions, beliefs and the meaning of life. Unless Jesus, Jahova , or other figures on Earth to prove which is the right idea and religion to follow, then we can change our beliefs based on the truth and not on opinions made from some dumbass who decided to confuse his own kind. ( Not referring to a religious figure, just a small time punk)
My rule is, never insult another religion JUST because you believe in something else. Fakku-ers should do the same.
"I hate topics like these because it always sparks up a flame that will burn us."

Well here is the deal , I'm a deist I believe in God but not in religion , in my case i have problems with both Christians and atheist. Not all Christians are the same , and not al atheist are the same ether but from the stand point of population both Christians and athirst tend to be very judgemental . First lets star with Christianity , Christians tend to believe that they are the only religion in the world and tend to bash on other religion and cultures , also they tend to be very Intolerant with other views that is not like theirs example The crusades and The inquisition , there doctrine has adapted to the new scientific discovery again example : The world is not flat and we orbit the sun , To the cultural stand point we live in a mostly christian culture so most people tend to be christian ,dont get me wrong but people tend to be christians because they are raise into that religion so culture its a big fact in religion or have you ever seen a baby born with religious believes ? I dont think so. In most of the christians mind there are only to options my religion is right your is wrong but with this being said sadly almost all religions are like this .Now for the atheist , well atheist tend to be judgemental as well . They tend to believe that every one that believes in a deity of some kind ,well its crazy and this is to be expected the very word atheist means no god A- meaning no or anti (feel free to correct me if im wrong) and theos that means god .Atheist do not believe anything that cant be proven by the scientific method example gods and magic(not that i believe magic) and this is my opinion pardon my English if i wrote something wrong and hope this helps XD

Everyone has different values and culture based on where and how they were raised. I can see why you're upset seeing atheism increase in your area, but it's important to respect and understand what others beliefs are and why they believe them.
When it comes to cultures and beliefs people tend to think that their own is superior, when there really is no "best" culture or religion. This is why many people enjoy being with others that share their beliefs to practice them together, as well as why many will feel offended when someone else thinks what they're doing is 'wrong'. I try my best to be objective, but I've fallen into the hole many times where I bashed someone else for questioning my way of thinking.

I admit, I sometimes have to struggle to give some respect to the atheists around me; it's practically impossible to get a normal conversation going with them once they know that you're Christian as the word Christian seems to turn their ears into wood... yeah I am being sour for that. 5 years of the UK right there.
But lately, atheists are starting to get abit extreme in my area. Awhile ago there was a series of attacks on Christians (according to what I know they were attacked on Sunday when they walked out of Church), and that is just going overboard. The worst thing about this is that these people tried to reason with them but in the end got knocked into hospital.
I say all this because... I'm scared. I haven't done anything wrong and yet I (might) face persecution for something I grew up on, and that is a very scary thought. And for the record, any religion that has a deity in it is undergoing huge ridicule. I had knives in me before, and my cousin got the worst of it.

I'm just going to come out and ask why I should respect a belief I don't believe in. Also,
You don't like being insulted, but whether it was intentional or not, you just gave out some insults of your own. To me, this obscures the positive message you probably meant to give. I also realize that I may or may not have said things that have already been said, but 4 in the morning is not the time where I read over everything.
Mind you, I am no 'Mr. Holy'; me being on Fakku says that much, but I try. I believe in empathy, understanding and wisdom, and I never try to judge anyone lightly...
I had no idea those things were specific to Christians and holy men. I know that's not what you meant, but it sounds like it and it pisses me off, so I'm pointing it out. Then you go on to disrespect the people that disrespect you and near the end as some others have pointed out, you clearly paint a favorable picture of Christians, and a non-favorable picture of Atheists. Not every Christian is perfect and not every Atheist is imperfect? There one in the same, yet you relate the negative word to Atheism and the positive word to Christianity. You don't like being insulted, but whether it was intentional or not, you just gave out some insults of your own. I respect my fellow man, despite religion, lifestyle, sexual perference. As long they keep it to themselves and dont try to convert me. THEN we have a problem.
Each religion is like a story of its own. How it became to be. Some of the values in religion i use in my personal way of life.
Lifestile. Some are just ment to be party animals. Cannot deny it that im jealous of it, but with all the honesty I cannot help with the need to punch whiners in the face. SELF control.
Sexual perference. Doesent matter. As long as you are a human who can be talked with a reason. Besides you cannot choose who you love. It just happens.
