i can understand why people voated for big bang because seriously "Big Bang" dosent that sound rather scary?

Looking at in from a practical point of view...

The LHC is safe. Or pretty much as safe as can be. Sure, there may be a possibility of a resonance cascade that wipes out the universe; it's true we don't *know* it won't happen. It just isn't really any more likely to happen in the LHC than in your toaster (think about that tomorrow morning at breakfast!)
Nanotech, however, is a different story. There is a possibility of creating a deadly virus or something equally nasty. But really, there are plenty of virii out there already, and I don't really see a few more making a difference in the long run.
