Selective Service

In America it is required by law that Men 18-25 join the Selective Services, which is basically the draft. If ever their is a time when the military needs more men we well have to go. Well I am sure some of the males on this site haven't registered yet. It is not required for women to register but they are still allowed to if they wish. Federal Law requires that you must be register within 30 days of reaching 18, you may not register if 26 or above though. I am not sure if other countries other then America have this.

Even if you are out of the country if you are drafted you have to go. If you don't go that is considered AWOL and you can end up in prison usually 7 months but can be more.

Yeah, I remember having to sign my name or whatever to register for this shit. It's not hard or time-consuming, but it sucks that we even have to do something like this. Us men, at least. Like you said, women don't have to, which seems odd considering all the "equal treatment" stuff that is said. Though I'd rather neither sex have to sign up for it.
If we ever had a war and ran short of people, I wouldn't even be able to fight. I'm not in shape, my vision sucks, and my body is riddled with all sorts of problems that would easily disqualify me. Plus, I'm a thinker, not the sort of person who's good at physical activities. I've spent all my life using my brain and neglecting my body. But even if I was in good shape, I really dislike the idea of having to fight in a war without any say. If it was World War II, I wouldn't protest being drafted, since that was clearly a noble cause. (Some of it, at least.) Hitler was doing all sorts of horrible shit. But something like the current quagmire in the Middle East? Fuck no, I wouldn't fight in that. I'm not dissing the soldiers that are currently fighting or that have fight in the Middle East, but our reasons for being there are very murky, and I don't trust the government on this issue. I'd run, probably to Mexico, since I've heard Canada happily ships draft dodgers (or AWOLs) back to America.

I believe in mandatory military training, perhaps modelled on the current system Israel employs, to strengthen state based militia. Exceptions occur with pregnancy, registration in the Federal military, and significant disability.
I do not believe in the federal government claiming that my allegiance to their corrupt practices, busybodying, and war profiteering is strong enough that I would be happy to serve in their next business venture.

Heh your fucked if you try to evade selective services unless you change your nationality XD
It pretty much should drive the point home to anyone reading it that military is required even when no one likes it. Read the link OP provided, was rather informative thanks XD
To be honest servicing in the military atm is kind slightly attractive to me, all I have to do is grunt work and don't have to really think >.> If I read it right, I get to play soldier for 2 years if I don't get killed in combat or whatever.
That's not bad probably.
If it means anything at least usa is fighting terrorists that doesn't have a standing army XD
I'll be alot more scared if USA was fighting one of western European countries or China. After all I'll never know when China flips their lid and sees themselves as the only kingdom in the center of the world again and nuke the barbarians.
I believe I already registered for selective services, although I'll call to make sure anyways.

Well if its just signing up the army thats fine.Just wish there will be no war or shortage of people until you reach 26 :D

WTF? 76 WORDS IS NOT ENOUGH FOR THE STUPID REQUIREMENT?
"man up" as in "eat it up like a man" <-how would i explain this: in the brotalk kinda tone?
and anyway, registering in time is what you are supposed to do in the first place (in the law abiding sense). not necessarily meaning that you are what you imply yourself to be by asking me to lick your anus for (assumed) desecrating your manliness (which wasn't even my intention in the first place).
talking about intent:

lots of other fuckers are born into mandatory service(3)
(1) i have clarified, (2) is some sort of a response to your question(?) at the end of the first post. (3) is my take on a wider scope that there are other people whose obligation goes on to the actual military training as compared to the current situation in the united states

I've already registered but if I was drafted I think I'd probably claim to be homosexual to get out of it. I simply don't want to kill anybody. If they gave me a position where I wouldn't have to kill anybody and the war was for a noble cause I'd go.

The claiming you are homosexual won't help you. "Don't ask don't tell" won't matter because if we are drafted it basically Americas in a cluster fuck of problems and they need all the people they can.

By law I had to register with selective and by law they will not allow me into the military due to a physical mutation.

Service is mandatory here. It quickly eliminates any idle fancies about there being anything positive about it, in everyone.

Its mandatory here for those 18 minimum and for educational reasons 21 at max.Now I would have turned 21 by the time i finished studying my diploma and I am immediately drafted.
By the time I am out its 3 years later and the military would have wiped out all that i have learned and have to relearn.
On top of the possibilities of getting myself killed, maimed or physically injured.
sigh...- -;;

Ok.
So, I tried to register, having had no idea about this before.

We apologize. Your request cannot be processed at this time because we are experiencing technical difficulties. One of our system components is not functioning properly. We are aware of and are currently attempting to correct the problem. Please try again later. (#322) (1/23/2010 4:11:18 PM)
Alright.
So, does this mean they already don't want me, or what?
Damnit, Big Brother. Get your shit straight.

What is this? I thought we no longer had drafts? That's part of why I dislike the Selective Service thing. It's basically a draft, but because of the way it's worded, it's not seen as a draft. So, people don't get upset, even though the government has the legal right to recruit any man they want as a soldier. Hopefully, the government will never do so, but you never know.
