Sounds like some kind of cult to me. you may have to capture him for deprograming. if he is truely your best friend, cutting ties is not even an option. learn as much as yu can about what he's into, and look for some professional help.

From my past experience, I would say that cutting yourself off entirely might be a bad idea. People go through weird phases sometimes, but when that happens, it's important to distance yourself somewhat. Don't just say that what they're doing is okay. Make it clear that some of their philosophies and outlooks are upsetting to you, but don't be too forceful about it.
The best you can do is hope that they grow out of it. If it continues for too long, you should seriously consider full-on confronting them about it.
