I support copyright and as a hobby artist I don't like it when people take my stuff without my knowledge and/or permission.
I posted my two cents already on my deviantart account:
(here, if anyone's interested)
Stop SOPA/PIPA, stop censorship. Keep the internet free & open.

I like how everyone is panicking and giving this attention now, after the bill has already effectively died for at least the rest of this year. Yeah, very delayed reaction. It would have been better if the blackout happened a month ago. Also according to Lamar Smith it will be reviewed again next month. I don't think its likely that it will get further than that until next year though. Continued public pressure might help make it easier to scrap entirely though.
@Thread: Fakku is not safe.

The public has spoken. As long as we continue to speak out, we won't be ignored. The reaction has been so overwhelming, they shelved it. Now it's just a matter of tying up loose ends. The public has spoken, and this is how America responds

It sometimes pays to have a military coup shoot all your politicians and oppress you for a decade or so.
The bill may be getting shelved, but I doubt this will be the last we heard of it. Hollywood and co. are one stubborn pieces of **** , especially since they already got so close.
And in all honesty, blackouts and the protests might have happened a few months earlier, but delayed action is better than no action at all. And it's in the election year. I want to see one of the candidates back it up and then expect public support.
And no, I don't think Fakku is safe. No site will be safe, because it will just take a single well-placed evidence, a little creativity, or just plain lobbying from any dumb fuck from Management Board to shut down any site, rather than come up with better business model.
On Megauploads:
The BBC article actually makes a very good point - if using original laws you can still apprehend "pirates" and shut down major sites (leaving aside the actual legitimacy/strength of the charges), then why would you need a bill like SOPA? The system work fine in that case!
Which flies into the face of every MPAA lobbyist that has been up in arms for past few weeks.
Contrary to current rage (including for myself), that can be quite a good argument to use against both bills.

I don't know if this was posted already, but it is must-read for those who want to understand why SOPA/PIPA is a bad fucking idea.

Hi everyone!
A big hurrah to you!!!!! We’ve won for now -- SOPA and PIPA were dropped by Congress today -- the votes we’ve been scrambling to mobilize against have been cancelled.
The largest online protest in history has fundamentally changed the game. You were heard.
On January 18th, 13 million of us took the time to tell Congress to protect free speech rights on the internet. Hundreds of millions, maybe a billion, people all around the world saw what we did on Wednesday. See the amazing numbers here and tell everyone what you did.
This was unprecedented. Your activism may have changed the way people fight for the public interest and basic rights forever.
The MPAA (the lobby for big movie studios which created these terrible bills) was shocked and seemingly humbled. “†˜This was a whole new different game all of a sudden,’ MPAA Chairman and former Senator Chris Dodd told the New York Times. †˜[PIPA and SOPA were] considered by many to be a slam dunk.’”
“'This is altogether a new effect,' Mr. Dodd said, comparing the online movement to the Arab Spring. He could not remember seeing 'an effort that was moving with this degree of support change this dramatically' in the last four decades, he added."
Tweet with us, shout on the internet with us, let's celebrate: Round of applause to the 13 million people who stood up - #PIPA and #SOPA are tabled 4 now. #13millionapplause
We're indebted to everyone who helped in the beginning of this movement -- you, and all the sites that went out on a limb to protest in November -- Boing Boing and Mozilla Foundation (and thank you Tumblr, 4chan)! And the grassroots groups -- Public Knowledge, Electronic Frontier Foundation, Demand Progress, CDT, and many more.
