Successfully produced functional lab grown sperm. Wat do?

Luckily the World is not exactly ready for playing God. I know the British are against cloning so I think engineered babies would fall in that category. Yea we can use stem cells to produce sperm; this is actually an old scientific achievement. But getting sperm from males is a lot cheaper and better than wasting our scientist’s time to make and edit it. Men could have become obsolete when cloning became possible. But why would a woman want to give birth to her clone. Obviously you have a point, men and women would probably want to decide the sex, brains, and looks of their baby but many people like to be surprised. I don’t think men will ever become obsolete, women like us too much. Only a small majority of women decide to get pregnant and raise a child without a husband or companion. Kids cost a lot and one salary would barely suffice.

On a more serious note I'm not really sure that this is gonna be a big hit with the ladies primarily because I don't think it was created with the ladies in mind(the words mice and sperm in the same sentence, now that's a serious promotion -.-). More likely it serves as an easier way to engineer genetically on legal, moral and most importantly on technical or economical level.

Saw this on The Colbert Report, and I though to myself, " Can they actually impregnate something, and can we use them to pass on certain genes".

Well i am not against this research because it will only help us further ourselves as a race to ensure that even if a virus/disease killed off every male in the world there as possibilities that we will not just die out. Even so i still don't like the mentality that just because you can reproduce without men doesn't mean we should be cast away.

Just like in "Brave New World" where the world has left behind the phase of the women getting pregnant in other to procreate, Since babies in the Brave New World are "artificially" produced.

To me the whole concept of men not being needed is flawed. It's like saying our only function is fertilisation. If we end up like in "brave new world" nobody's gonna give a blinding fuck about your gender, your worth being judged only by your knowledge and mastery of your body. And that's mainly the way people look at other people in the society, plus some stereotypes and biased opinions.

Well this was inevitable from the advent of reproducible stem cells without fertilization. I'm not too worried, and can't understand why other people who are worried think that way.

There is a much wider range of reasons why women would have sexual intercourse with men.
Love, pleasure, money, etc etc.

Haha, I have to agree that it wouldn't change anything. Why? Because the other half of the genes for the children are still from the ignorant woman that believes this method would guarantee the perfect child. Besides, once they're capable of easily producing sperm, how far are they from producing eggs?

The worse turn of events I can foresee from this is the end of evolution for human beings. By controlling the offspring of our kind would mean no room for mutation for the better. We need dynamic growth for the future of our race, not some static standstill because we are far from perfect beings.

Well, to be frankly honest, I think it's inhuman to do that to male sperm. These mad scientist's are insane thinking they can do this to sperm. In my god honest truth, I Believe pregnancy is the correct way. because i simply believe A male/female having sex would be more correct.(or having sperm donated. etc etc) because if you're like me, I would rather have my child be a normal, functioning member of society. not a engineered one.

Whoa, this is interesting. I wish I can see details of the sperm engineering. A lot of science is involved, I'm curious. Personally I have no issue with humans playing god or whatever. I don't believe in one, and even if humans do obliterate themselves cuz they're retarded, so be it.
