United People of Earth
United People of Earth. Good or Bad?

I had an idea that i THINK could bring the everyone closer to world Unity. Screw world peace, that's almost impossible to achieve, for now. If the whole world were governed as a whole where each country or nation would be an independent state. Think of a United states of Earth where each nation would be a state.
your opinions will be helpful, i'm really open minded. i'm practically a mind whore! (lol)

I think it is what we are all headed towards, and I do hope a united Earth system does one day come, but I doubt it will happen in our lifetimes. Even if such a system was created right now, it would only fail. Look at the United Nations.

Ah, but this would be different from the UN. With this there would only be 1 nation, earth. The UN is a failure because it has no power. The UPE would be the central government that is elected world wide. It will be the glue that hold everyone together.

It will be the glue that hold everyone together.I brought up the UN because in the UN, the different nations bicker with each other and fail to accomplish anything of importance. A world government would suffer from the same problems right now, because too many countries have too many problems with one another right now. The UN doesn't suck because it's a bad idea; leaders just aren't ready for it yet.
Humanity would have to change a bit. The leaders in charge of the world government would have to not be greedy or subjugate the people in any sort of way. Because if the world government was corrupt, to where would people flee? If I'm upset about gay marriage being banned in the United States of America, I can go to Canada or Spain, where it's legal, but in a world government, if something is banned, there is nowhere to go. Thus, it is imperative that before a world government take power, it is certain that the right things will be legal and the right things will be illegal. There's a lot of conflict about that sort of thing all over the world. Look at age of consent laws, gay marriage, gun laws, etc.

I don't think the world as a country by itself will work out.
First and foremost, everyone would be fighting to become the world's president or prime minister, leading to quite a bit of conflict. Even if a responsible person was placed in position, the phrase "power corrupts" still comes to mind.
Humans are competitive by nature. By making countries into individual states, they will still compete with one another, perhaps for funds and whatnot. Unity will not result.
There are many other reasons why such a plan could go wrong, but my tired mind prevents me from listing them out. :D

All the world uniting under one flag is supposed to be a sign of the apocolyps. If you believe in that sort of thing.
Realistically, the only way to unify the world is economically. People care about their money, and globablization is the only way that culture, race, etc. wont matter. Because, in this world, business is above all else.

If there was only one currency, that would save a lot of trouble. Changing money when going to a different country is a bitch. But I imagine that would be a lot of trouble, right, since different countries have such different economies?

Yeah, the value of a nation's currency typically depends on it's government, it would be difficult to inact a world currency that would be worth the same everywhere. The Euro is quite an achivement, really, although it could probably only happen in Europe. Cerain areas of Europe, you can cross several countries in a day easily. There are people who live in one country and work in another, so having a curency you dont' have to exchange is a matter of convieniance. But for the whole world... much more complicated.

Well, not really. You would just need to be able to travle around the world in about 5 hours or something and it would be very possible.
I'd say it could very well happen if we ever should expand beyond earth. Althought humanity wouldn't be united.

great idea but unlikely to happen...at least while i m alive, unless of course there would be some sort of alien invasion threat or something of the likes, also ozymandias idea seems to work out fairly well...

But every solution has a negative consequence... globalization would mean erasure of some cultures, one currency will mean that, how should I say this, the one that generates the most money, might control the economy... Unity under one flag will just be an illusion if people do not change the very root of the problem... "greed"

I can think of a few good ways to conquer...err, fuck, UNIFY the world.
...
Code Geass ending w/o Zero Requiem would sum up my intentions, I think.
I, personally, think that the only reason humanity continues to fight amongst itself is the "Pack Leader" instinct that all animals, humans included, possess. The instinct to climb to the top of the pile and make everyone else follow your whims is present in everyone, and because we have upwards of 5 billion humans currently alive, the conflicts that result from this are pretty large in scale and stupidity. Put a single competent person on a throne, and let them lead, and lead well, and the majority of large-scale conflicts in the world will be eliminated.
Has anyone ever noticed that the only empires with Rebels are the evil empires, while the "just" empires always have a fairly peaceful and calm life?
That's the basic idea, I think. Conquer all, then don't be a selfish bastard, and everything aughta work out.

"Your an idiot!" Oh, how I laughed.
Anyway, this will never happen. There is too much culture, and each country still wants to be its own ruler, as it were. Currency, that's another thing that's individual about a lot of countries.
That's not dipping into the political implications of this, but overall I fail to see a single instance where this could occur perfectly.

Think about it for a minute, no one would give up their borders and small countries wouldn't get much expansion, so all the "states" of the world government would be the exact same current world geography. Then the world government couldn't have complete control all the time so each state would need governance, who better than the current leaders? Basically there would be an extra bullshit layer of unnecessary government for everyone to continue ignoring. The UN is the best example so far of a world government and no one ever listens to anything that they don't have a vested interest in listening to and there are 5 countries that run it anyway.

Also a culture disparity makes universal currency difficult...umoung other things.

It's all about perspective, really.
The UN isn't really a governing body. It's meant to keep world wars from happening, more or less.
All Empires and governments eventually fail.

its impossible mainly because religion couldnt make the world united how can others?Religion is a very important thing. Even the slightest difference in beliefs can cause people to kill one another (or move down the block and start their own church). Because of this, it would be impossible to use religion to unite the world.
Now, if we used love of democracy to unite the world, that might work, because even though people have different beliefs about certain aspects of democracy and the way it should work, people can agree to disagree and not get violent when arguments occur. With religion, something as simple as whether to allow a married couple to be able to divorce or not can cause a huge conflict that can never be settled.

great idea, and very much possible. just delete every single word that might lead to unconditional discrimination(race, culture etc) and it'll succeed. i'm looking forward to it.
