United People of Earth
United People of Earth. Good or Bad?

The only times people can work together efficiently are in life threatening crisis' or during holidays: x-mas, valentine's day, etc.
Other than these, it'll take a huge drastic move to change the way society has been brought up. Like kidnap all the unbrainwashed kids, kill all the corrupt adults, then raise the kids without the wrong ideas planted. Harsh I know but it will provide results.

People work together during the holidays?
That's why parents will trample one another over Tickle Me Elmos and people will shoot each other for PS3s, right?

Unless something happens along those lines, a hegemon-like community on Earth will never exist.

What I foresee to these statements is that world peace and UNE is highly unattainable. I admit it is a good idea, but it cannot possibly happen with the world as of now. Think of America when it was filled with federalism where each state acted as their own nation, until the great wars of WW2, which turned the citizens of America into Nationalism. If you look back in history, you will understand that America used to be divided by where they live. That is an example of what might happen if we had UNE(United Nations of Earth). The world already has a lot of people with nationalism beliefs and such.
Creating UNE would lead no where and it would be for nothing, but to have nations who dislike one another unify. Of course, having this would cause havoc and groups of protesters. Would you think that China or any other country would sign up to this?
Another problem of the matter in UNE would be the question "who will lead planet Earth?" We're a planet of different nations with different governments, so everyone has different ways in election. Even if we had the same ways of elections, it would still be unattainable for countries would vote for their own presidents or kings. If this happens, it would cause another world war, WW3, and massive mayhem inflicting death to earth citizens. Genoiced, killing or extermination of a whole race or nation.
I can go on with more issues and such, but I will let the rest talk. basically. . .
United Nations/People of Earth= Death+Havoc+Genocide+Worthless Nonsense.

Like after 9-11. People didn't ACTUALLY stop hating eachother, than just pretend to get along for a while, or stow their hatred of one another to focus more on hating someone else for a while.

well...of course, if the world is as it is this UNE thing will never succeed. that's why first of all those stupid hatred or anything need elimination. the only kind of discrimination that i find justifiable are clever/stupid, and wise/fool. rich/poor is tolerable, but only after you reach a certain age, and all are brought up with same degree of facilities and education. no others, especially right/wrong, race, culture, and religion.

Unless something happens along those lines, a hegemon-like community on Earth will never exist.
Bringing up Gundam, in the original Universal Century, the Earth Federation came about because the world was in terrible shape because of overpopulation. This was solved by moving people into space colonies, but then the whole "Colonies shouldn't be governed by Earth" stuff started. That's not really important though. What is important is that the Earth Federation was created because all of mankind was in danger, and even after solving the problems, people still didn't want to be governed by one all-inclusive power. The people in space (a lot of them, at least) wanted their own government independent of the Earth Federation. A unified Earth may get a lot done, but even if the entire Earth unites, it probably won't last forever.
Furthermore, the Earth Federation was very flawed. It was better than the Zabi family and Zeon, but not by much. Perhaps multiple governments are the way it's meant to be, so that one government can say about another, "What they are doing is evil," as a way of promoting goodwill for everyone.

oh, good one. really, it seems like people are just damn conceited(nanimo dekinai no kuse ni) and only in some real troubling tough times will they unite. well...i guess the word unity is just hard to attain...
are hatred and discrimination inherent for us?
is there no way to at least let freedom be?

@ShaggyJebus: Well, I was thinking more along the lines of humanity bonding together due to a common cause, aka an enemy that forces all nations to work together. In Gundam 00 it was Celestial Being, and in the the Ender and Bean series, it was the Buggers/Piggies/Jane. And both series ended up creating a space colonization program to propagate the human species.

Yes, We all are in a way selfish, and strive to be better than our neighbor, we hate and discriminate others, to get things our way. A survival of the fittest kind of scenario.
Freedom will be immediately be exploited by such selfish people when given the chance. The moment to rise to power, mankind has been doing this very same thing for ages. That's why world powers try to stay on top by creating more sophisticated and deadly weapons to outpower rivals, and came up with such weapons ans the A-Bomb and such.
So unity, though a good thing, is very far fetched for now.

That's the basic idea, I think. Conquer all, then don't be a selfish bastard, and everything aughta work out.I do have to agree with Gambler on this one; "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely". It's not an original idea, but we've seen it happen time and time again, and it's probably not going to change until something massive is brought about.
The idea of just one person unifying the entire world is probably the best and simplest one that I can think of, as democracy just cannot work on such a large scale, due to the problems such large countries already face with it.
I still say the best way to make such a situation happen would be a common thing to unify everyone, or at least the majority of people, like a religion (hopefully atheism or something of the like) or a common ideal, like not being destroyed by aliens. It would take something to make people feel like they're all in it together to get them to cooperate with everyone else to make it possible, but the cause would be quite a pickle to pick.
Anyway, I still say "Legalism" or whatever it's supposed to be called, should be implemented worldwide, where the intelligent rule and idiots will become the serfs. The power system of a ruler using the law and justice system to keep everything running smoothly is also a good idea from it, as supposedly the laws should still be a strong force adhered to by the masses, even if the ruler is unable to govern properly and with popular support.
