I've just read another thread, that - just in passing as if it was a fact of life (BULLSHIT!) - recommended against vaccination.
This bullshit has come up way too often.
Here's the deal: vaccination is safe, it's risks are a lot lower than what they protect against. No matter what has been brought up, I've seen NO EVIDENCE that not vaccinating someone is of ANY benefit.
...on the other hand there is plenty of evidence, that if vaccination rate goes down there's be plague outbreaks:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaccine_controversy
I don't give a shit about your "morals" or your "magical" (without any scientific - ergo tested and proven - claim) thinking if it's killing people.
I'm tired of this shit and it's about time we (those of sane mind and who understand the scientific method) spoke out against this lunacy.

Well before the military I tended to get sick about 1 time a year. After joining & being forced to get the "Flue Vaccine" I tended to get sick 3 times a year. Now there could have been far more factors then just the vaccine, like human interaction location etc etc. I just look at it this way, humans had made it what, some thousands of years with out any real vaccine & we are still around. Mind you, you could live longer if you get vaccinated, but then again you could die at any moment from some random accident. I'm neither pro or against it, I just see it as another way for someone to get rich.

...it's just the thousands of other "sick" guys like you who died that thought otherwise. Granted thanks to the fact that weak and sick people died humans were stronger.
...however I fail to see how that's a good thing in this context.

I'm generally apathetic towards vaccines and the people who choose to ignore the coverage. If they believe the side effects are greater than the benefit of the vaccine then they will be the ones who get infected with polio, small pox, rubella, etc. Their choice, and rationally they can only hold themselves responsible.

We'll I never got flu vaccinations because I have what you call a very strong
immune system. It built up over the years due to me being sick in the hospital for 3 years of my early childhood life. I even caught the H1N1 On Halloween night last year
and it was not as bad as I thought it might be. But I do agree with the OP.

I support vaccinations for babies, and flu vaccinations for 'at risk' people. i don't like the media blitz on the H1N1 or 'swine flu'(it was being called an epidemic when less than 100 in US even had it). i've never gotten a flu vaccine, because i'm not a baby or a senior citzen, but i did get all my shots when i was a baby.

You should still get vacced if it's free or cheap. You protect other people (those at risk) too that way.

There are more people that die from the freaking common cold than this damn virus. Get over it people!
Get / not to get, it was freaking free. I don't care.

Vaccines aren't really anything bad... it's just priming your own immune system to repel pathogens. Really, there's nothing disruptive about the vaccine, since any sort of negative response will be just your own body going haywire trying to ramp up the defensive mechanisms, much like how allergies are.
The problem lies in education, or there lack of, in regards to the actual science behind it. When ordinary folks are exposed to techical jargons, they'll immediately become confused, and will either
A) ignore the problem in laziness, hoping it'll go away, or
B) learn as much as possible in regards to the jargon.
Howver, the problem lies in when people learn or are taught incomplete lessons, so that they have holes in their theories and logic, yet believe what they've learned is correct, and will form their own views based on those flawed reasonings.
As a result, we have people that sprout out somewhat believeble pseudoscience, trying to recruit others to their cause of protecting the world from what they (falsely) believe to be a dangerous creation. Some do it simply because they don't know and have good intentions, while others may know that it is flawed, yet do so anyways for vile or unknown reasons. Regardless, this kind of misinformation cost lives, however indirectly it may be, and should not be tolerated.
A possible remedy: mass information campaigns by the healthcare system (should there be one) in order to let the public know just how vaccines work, and why it does not pose a danger to us.
Those nurses who rejected the vaccines are probably just being cautious about the vaccine, as it is new and a bit of a rush job, so it may cause side effects like fevers that would hinder their work.

I started the thread in response to a swine flue video, but I made it to promote ALL vaccines. Some dumb idiots refuse to have their kids immunized against rubeola, polio, diphtheria, tetanus, TBC.
They put their children at insane risk. The *only* and let stress this *only* reason they can do this and not condemn their children to certain suffering is that everyone else *does* vaccinate children.
Look up some of these ailments:
Polio - your child will be a cripple for life and there is NO CURE, only vaccination.

Diphtheria - If you get it, the antitoxin should be immediately administered. However since almost everyone (but your childs thanks to dumb reasons) is already vaccinated, it will take a while for the doctor to realize what's going on... oh and if you let the child "get over it, it's just fever", the swelling on the lymphs could suffocate them by the time they see a doctor.

The fillers in most vaccines are toxic.
HOWEVER, some adjuvants (chemicals used to create a greater immune response) have been found to be harmful.
In particular (because it's recent) aluminium based ones pose great risk.
e.g. aluminum hydroxyphosphate sulfate used in Gardasil (The HPV vaccine)
Journal of the American Medical Association: Post-Licensure safety report
FDA safety report on the vaccine:
^Taken from an article about marketing, criticizing the makers of Gardasil for playing down more serious side effects.
----------------
From a more rational standpoint, I look at vaccinations as a necessary evil. Overuse causes immune deficiency, has been linked to autism, and hurts like a bitch. On the other side, many serious conditions (smallpox, polio, etc.) have been nearly wiped out because of vaccination.
I say, let the individual (or, at younger age, the parent) make a personal decision to vaccinate the child. Medical error could be prevented through good clerical work, and the benefits are often worth the risk.
(Personally, I am getting my kids the bigger ones--polio, chicken pox, and whatnot---, but avoiding superfluous use ----flu mostly---)

Taken from the very report you posted:
"The Gardasil safety review assessed the following adverse events: local injection site reactions, syncope, dizziness, and nausea, headaches, hypersensitivity reactions, such as rashes, hives, itching, anaphylaxis, Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), transverse myelitis, motor neuron disease, venous thromboembolic events (VTEs), pancreatitis, autoimmune disorders, pregnancy, and deaths. All of these events are included in Gardasil’s labeling. In VAERS, a higher proportion of Gardasil reports were of syncope and VTEs compared with other vaccines. However, none of the adverse events in the safety review, including syncope and VTEs, were reported at rates (number of adverse events/number of doses distributed) greater than expected in a population of this age and gender and with other known contributing factors to these adverse events."
Get your head out of "alternative medicine" journals and read up on what are the prime sources of poisoning in our lives (toxic, bacteriological or other).

Big News people: if you die by taking the vaccine, you would most likely (or more like; surely) die from getting the sickness the vaccine protects against.

Correction: whatever symptoms a vaccines causes are likely more minor than what the illness would cause. Furthermore if you show a reaction to a vaccine the doctors can immediately use targeted treatment on you so you'll likely never develop complications...
...not getting vaccinated and getting infected will be inevitably worse especially since the doctors will first have to diagnose your illness and that leaves time for the ailment to worsen and complications to arise.

The main problem is that there is no control group in the vaccine debate.
As you pointed out, Flaser, "none...were reported at rates...greater than expected in a population of this age and gender and with other known contributing factors" means that there's a uniform trend among surveyed peoples.
The problem is that the (majority of the) survey group is also vaccinated for AT LEAST the basic set, required to attend public schooling.
(my point)
The method which we use to survey these instances is inherently flawed.
On top of which, in this instance, the regulatory studies could have been improved.
(taken from http://www.ditrianum.org/nederlands/Artikelen/Maatschappij/JWReportFDAhpvVaccineRecords.pdf)
And, the testing hasn't been sufficiently thorough.
I'm not even in a "conspiracy" mode over this. It just sounds like deceptive advertising to me.
----
And, on "alternative journals":
-Competition keeps the journalistic system from stagnating even further. The low quality and lack of accreditation of smaller publications is based on a monopolized marketplace, controlled by a dynasty based ruling class. These exclusive groups are free to decide what gets printed, and what does not.
-Corruption is cheap in this country. For a single game of golf, you can get entire laws changed to your liking.
-I'm one of the three who actually paid attention in Biology class, hence my position of compromise. AGAIN, I vaccinate for the essential ones, and leave the rest alone.

Don't even get me started on the corruption in the medical industry. Some of the creators of these vaccine won't take them because THEY DON'T THINK THEY ARE SAFE! It's bad enough the MSNBC did a special on the industry, granted it centered more on the pharmaceutical companies. If the creators of a vaccine won't take it because it's not safe, then why should I? Would you live in a house that the builder thinks is unsafe, of course not.
I take the vaccines that I know are safe and have plenty of evidence supporting how safe it is. I didn't get a h1n1 shot because the creators weren't taking it.
